The Difference Between Klopp & Guardiola's Pressing Systems | Gegenpressing vs the 6-second rule

Pep Guardiola and Jurgen Klopp are well known for their tactics. Their more common tactic is the pressing system. Klopp opts for gegenpressing where Pep opts for the 6-second rule. But what are the differences?

This is a great channel. My only criticism is the pls subscribe spam. It doesn't bother me too much but I like to share your vids with others and it bothers me knowing that I'm essentially letting someone else feel spammed. I understand the struggle but just hope you don't sacrifice the quality of your videos to get more subs. Contrarily to how KZread works, I believe the quality of your content is the real success.

Liverpool's attacking phase is heavily dependent on their fullbacks as well. That's why Trent and Robbo rack up the huge assists tally every season. Pep attacks more centrally through the midfield

Actually they dont, most teams park the bus and it's a lot difficult to play through the middle, they use their wingers as opposed to Liverpool's fullback. De Bruyne with B. Silva, and David Silva with Sterling. They only attack central when a chance is there.
I love how much this says... Klopp is the direct and efficient German....keen to convert defence into dangerous attack in the shortest possible time Pep is the artistic Catalan keen to dominate but in a beautiful way, allowing build up to show technique and the beauty of the game

Main difference between two managers are use of full backs Klopps fullbacks are heavily involved in overlapping runs and the main source of crossings leaving Mane and Salah more centrally, while Pep uses his fullbacks to join the center midfield and help in buildup usually leaving the flanks to wingers

Great video. It also explains why LFC tend to beat us because most goals City concede tend to be very soon after losing the ball - especially since losing our fastest central defenders. City are vulnerable to quick, accurate, penetrative passing to fast strikers.
This video is truly exceptional in explaining subtle differences that, once you see, broadens the understanding of the game in such an enjoyable way. Thanks a lot.

I think Jurgen is the better manager. He Took a small team like Mainz to the top division in Germany. He then takes a struggling Dortmund team to 2 Bundesliga tittle wins. Now he has transformed Liverpool, into one of the best teams in the world winning the Champions League. Pep has only managed mega teams with huge resources, Barca - Bayern & Man City. It would be interesting to see Pep manage a smaller team with less resources.

Really good analysis! No, perfectly explained. They way they battled each other is nothing new. When Pep sarted to take over Bayern Munich it was the best thing what happened to the Bundesliga. You could see Klopp vs Pep battling and pushing each other . Bayern Munich was one the most versatil team ever. And Klopp could have won the CL if he were "allowed" to keep his team with Lewandwoski, Hummels, Gündogan, Götze, Sahin etc.
Keep up the good work 👍

This should be watched by every single Premier League fan. I'm a Liverpool supporter and whilst I understood the basics of Gegen Pressing (Who doesn't) I didn't realise how much emphasis is placed on pressing traps. Finally getting Oxlade Chamberlain back to health is going to be a big advantage for us, his speed and physicality as a midfielder really suits Klopp's style.
Ole's tactics is just 'go out there and have fun'. Doom on Pogba's eyes😳
One big difference is Klopp has spent 500million overall. Guardiola has spent 1.5 Billion. Three times more than Klopp, that is a big indicator . Secondly, Guardiola took over a team that had been consistently coming in the top 4 of the Premier League with owners able to afford any player. Klopp took over a club that hadn't won in 30 years. Another big indicator. Guardiola manages the best sides at the time - Barcelona at their peak when they had Messi, Xavi, Iniesta. Bayern Munich on the back of being European champions and winning the treble the previous year and of course City. Klopp wins with B sides like Liverpool were when he took over and Borussia Dortmund were when he won the Bundesliga with them.
In klopp system every player of opponent surounded by four player and when opponent lose ball they play with counterattack and boom 💣 goal
I'm glad that someone finally recongnized the athletic abilities of liverpools midfield. everyone is critisizing the midfield even though they must put enormous effort in the game for this system to work
Excellent video. ❤️
Thanks for this

Great video. Makes sense!
pep do managing and Klopp do creating. Klopp did many things to reach the top, but pep only keep something on the top level. both are great, but their passion is different. untill now i've never seen pep take a risk to rise from the bottom. Pep has style to make sure something keep on high level, Klopp build something from low to the top. when they're switching their position, pep can never do what Klopp did, neither did Klopp. their style is pure their own, n will never change or exchange. love them both. @@mariohh2647 Van Dijk was a lot (though for 2nd place Ballon D'or, that's a steal) and so was Allison, you're correct. However it's worth looking at the actual numbers. Let me break it down using the recored transfers as found on transfermarkt.com (obviously the numbers won't be exact but this is subtracting the amount spent on transfers each season from the amount earned by selling players. Klopp joined Liverpool in October 2016. 2015-2016 = loss of 36m (remember Rodgers bought the players this summer) 2016-2017 = profit of 6m 2017-2018 = profit of 19m 2018-2019 = loss of 140m 2019-2020 = profit of 30m Overall, for all Klopp's time at Liverpool, that works out that he's only technically spent 49m over 5 seasons and in three of those seasons, he made a profit from selling players over the money spent buying them. Guardiola joined Man City in October 2016 2016-2017 = loss of 180m 2017-2018 = loss of 226m 2018-2019 = loss of 24m 2019-2020 = loss of 97m Overall, Guardiola has then spent roughly 527m only four seasons at Man City. So that's 478m more than Klopp and in less seasons. Sure, Liverpool have spent money, every team does. However, factoring in sales, Liverpool have actually spent a lot less than a lot of teams in the premier league. That's why I deemed Guardiola money and Klopp heart. I can see the point you were making, but you can't argue with those numbers, man.

Watching in hockey fan. Forechecking is an old idea from the NHL dating back to the 1930s. A Soviet football coach is reportedly the first to bring forechecking to football, but he may have gotten it from Soviet hockey coaches. The Soviets first used football as off ice training, important since you can do anything with your feet in hockey except score goals.
Remember the time when Klopp ran his formidable Dortmund team to the final of champions league and the players could not keep up anymore the next season due to the injuries caused. We don’t see that in Liverpool I wonder why

It's a very good analysis not bias to anyone Liverpool playing space football Man city playing total football One believe winning the ball in certain areas is crucial ( "Gagen pressing is the best player maker " Klopp said.) While one believe that having much of the ball reduces the chances of an opponent hurting you.(The best defence is attack)
very good, thank you
As a City fan I would concede that Klopp’s style is more sustainable and resilient when key players are missing. Heavy Metal can also be more exciting to see than ballet. Pep’s style is perfect like a Ferrari engine and a joy to behold when running smoothly but relies heavily on being made up of perfect parts. They are both brilliant in their own way and the pendulum may keep swinging from one to the other. 2019 was Klopp’s almost perfect year but City somehow lifted all 4 domestic trophies! I’m grateful to see my team involved in such an epic battle.
i like your way keep it simple

You’ve taught me more about football in a year than pundits have in 6
Klopp has changed his style slightly recently. Alot more controlled, and a bit more focused. Specifically due to the long 2019/20 season.
Since the change of the assistant from Zeljko Buvac to Pepijn Linders, Liverpool seemed to be more patient and not went gung-ho doing gegenpressing

I havent seen Liverpool press their trousers this season let alone press the opposition. They used to 6+ months ago. Smashing teams and causing chaos was a thing back then. I hope something sorts itself out between now and Sunday because so far this season and despite the (close) wins and possession, we've not looked at all impressive going forward.

And I think people should really just stop hating on pep like seriously why do some people hate pep it's not like he said he is the best manager in the world or claims he is better than any manager so why does it matter to people that he spent money.

Klopp's much better. More entertaining football. Football with more balls. Being possesive obsessive like Pep's sides forces opposition to sit back and watch Pep's sides' passing sideways and horisontally ad nauseam. That's the downside of it. And from neutral POV is boring at times to watch one team passing ad nauseam around another team that just sits back bc why chase ball if Pep's side is so possesive obsessive? You have to let opposition to have the possession for a while in order to find space and to score. This possesive obsessive game is used as defensive method as well. That's why Pep's sides are so terrible at actual defense. Defense is keeping possession for him. So all must b involved in it and if one fucks up then defense crumbles like domino.

Next time you watch a team sit back and watch City pass the ball sideways ad nauseum, pay attention to the work put in by the team "sitting back." "The aim of passing is not to move the ball, but to move the opposition." I'm not sure I got that totally right, but Pep said something to that effect. Wolves beat City because they had the right system to beat City. Watch the teams City, Barca, Ajax lose to and you start to see a lot of similarities. There's a reason Pep never beat Koeman's Everton. Ever.

yes and no. I also dont think that Klopp would make it at Man City as he needs a specific environment, he is going for clubs that suits his character and I think this is a huge strength of him that he knows that, he would never sign at a club like Man City. Mainz, Dortmund and Liverpool are similar in many ways. And he really manages to not only make the players better but to transform the entire club and the the fans. He needs the challenge with a team that has a huge potential but didnt perform well in the recent past. In that he is a quite unique phenomena since he really manages to make miracles happen. But its hard to say if he is better then Pep because of that, they both work in different ways and different clubs/situations.
