Many of us are looking to upgrade our stock Toyota Tacoma by giving it a lift and wheels. However its increasingly difficult to sift through all the forums to get clear answers as to which lift kit and wheel package will work. Then when you conjoin the fact that not everyone wants to daily drive a full time offroader then the realization starts to set in... What are the right sizes and parts to go for that will enhance without detracting from your prized Tacoma?
That is the question I attempt to answer by sharing my experiences with the decisions and equipment I have on my TRD Pro. Hope this helps you make some sound choices and as always, happy to answer specific questions in the comment section.

    @@PointShiftDrive Thank you! :-) Have you done a re-gearing on your truck yet? ive heard that alot of people re-gear to Nitro 5.29 Gears to make the truck feel more powerful, ive seen the complete re-gear kit for $1.5k online. The first thing I did to my truck when I got it was buy things like WeatherTech Sunshade, WeatherTech Mud Flaps, Clazzio Seat Covers (which I havent been able to finish installing yet), and RCI Rock Sliders (which im still waiting on). The first day when I drove my truck home from the dealership is got a couple of rock chips on the paint and on the tailgate while I was driving home so the next thing I do after I get the rock chips repaired is going to be to wrap the truck in paint protection film and then put a camper shell on it to protect the truck bed from UV damage, the environment, and have a place to sleep while I camp and keep cargo safe. I got my truck with the 6.2 foot bed so I can toss a mattress or sleeping bag in the truck bed and be able to sleep comfortably there with a camper shell on the truck.

    Very cool set up! Just got my ICON suspension done last week on my Taco. Rims and tires will be installed next week then it’s off to Death Valley area to test everything out. Great video and great looking truck. Hope it still looks the same after 2 years. Have you found yourself touching the adjusters much? If so is it when you add weight for your trips or like you said in the video to stiffen when offroad only. Trying to decide if to get adjusters Have you done any maintenance yet on the kings? Still loving your suspension setup including the leaf pack? Thank you!

    You should watch some of my more recent videos to see what the truck looks like now. It’s a bit different. I love it though. Only getting better. As for the adjusters, I basically keep them about 65-75% still all the time. It seems to be the sweet spot. But when loaded up for a trip there are times I dial them up a bit to compensate for the extra weight. I’d highly recommend the adjusters. Helps get the feel you want. No maintenance yet. Hasn’t needed any. You can go like 30k miles without a rebuild. Mine are still working flawlessly. As for my leafs, yes they are still good. But I added the extra support leaf to help manage the weight and reduce any squatting. Hope that helps! And thank you for watching! I appreciate it

    Truth be told when I bought this truck I was planning on keeping it completely OE. And my wife really loved the color a ton more than the off-road desert sand i had my eye on. But after owning it for a while and going on some adventures I organically started modding it. First small stuff like upgrading lights but soon I wanted knobbier tires and whole sha bang! So it all kind of happened. That being said, I am still glad I did it this way because I hate the cloth interiors on the Tacos and not to mention the other stuff like chrome bumpers and not as attractive grills, head lights, tail lights, etc. but sure it was more expensive this way. Either way thanks for watching. I appreciate it.

    You are not wrong. KO2s are great for 95% of road and off road conditions. But mud or snow really make them useless. I think the KM3 is a better mud tire but the give and take comes in the form of road noise and worse gas mileage.

  • @PointShiftDrive

    @PointShiftDrive

    I get that. However I also disagree. Everything I took off this truck I was able to sell for premium dollars. In the end it actually wasn’t that much of a difference from buying a TRD off-road versus a pro. The difference is selling parts off of an off-road is much harder and you get a lot less money than you do for pro parts. I would even argue that it makes more sense to do a TRD pro because you get a lot more things that you don’t get on the off-road. Black badges, painted rear bumper, leather seats, better wheels, better headlights, better hood and graphics, etc.

    Sorry you didnt get what you paid for in this video... But let me address some things you said because I may not have been as clear as I could have been. 1- the pros and cons are discussed throughout the video. Its just that most of what I said are "pros." Therefore the contrast is lacking... However, I would point you to 6:20s where I literally discuss "pros and cons of my setup." 2 - "The right way." That is a strategy... not necessary just the way I did it. I talk about in the video how people should plan for their builds and by doing so they are avoiding the mistakes of just buy and hope all the parts work together seamlessly.... makes sense? Regardless if you liked my video or not, you are free to have an opinion. I do take what you said to heart as feedback so that I can improve. To be honest, making content is incredibly hard and I am still learning. Part of my growth is hearing the feedback good or bad. So thank you for speaking up and letting me know I wasnt clear and didnt meet your expectations. I will work harder in future videos to improve and be more clear. Thanks for checking out my post and have a great day!
