Ion Cannon is great for anti-infantry, and in Mont'ka, Lethals can help deal damage vs vehicles(d6+3 attacks can potentially deal a fair bit of damage). The 2 Seekers always give you some punch vs "big stuff". Makes for a fairly versatile tank for the cost. If your Observer has the enhancement that gives sustained hits to the Guided unit, you can get some decent sustained hits in as well. Another thing in Mont'ka: Once Guided, the unit gets full lethals(turns 1-3). It does not have to be against the spotted target. That means your smart missile systems(6 shots total, indirect) can target a hiding/support unit(5+ to hit due to BS penalty, downgraded to 6+ if indirect) 30" away and every 6 is an automatic wound. 2 Hammerheads working in close proximity can then lob 12 smart missiles at a small infantry squad in hiding(possibly on an objective) and whittle away at them. Or they can assist in taking down the main target. Let us say that you bring 2 Hammerheads as a hunting group in Mont'ka, with a Pathfinder team to spot for them. One has a Railgun, the other an Ion Cannon. Against a Land Raider(T12, W18), you can get 1 Railgun shot(possible lethal), 4 Seekers(possible Lethals) and d6+3 Ion Cannon shots(possible Lethals) into it. Let us low roll the Railgun and have it score minimal damage. That is 7 damage. On average, the Seekers will probably score around 8 damage(15 total damage). On(slightly below) average, you get 6 attacks total on the Ion Cannon. 1 of them will be lethal(on average). 4 more hits. Of those 4 hits, 1 of them wounds(total of 2 wounds). The Land Raider only needs to fail 1 Ion Cannon wound, and it will go down. If you dont like these odds, you can pour your Smart Missiles into it as well. Might take a wound off. And the Pathfinders can then add to this, if needed(a bunch of potential chip damage). The great thing about this combo, is that once destroyed, the content of the transport will be far more vulnerable to the Ion Cannon than the Railgun. If it turns out that you get some good rolls with the Railgun Hammerhead, you get to shoot at the infantry with the Ion Hammerhead(and potentially save the seekers of that tank for later).

Great tactica. I used 2 hammerheads equipped exactly as yours in the index era, I'm moving up to 3 for the codex. I'm dithering between the 3rd hammerhead being a 3rd railgun or an ion cannon (with accelerator burst cannons) for a more mid field role, or even paying 10 points to make the 3rd tank a skyray.

How does letal hits works with devastating wounds ?

You can't use Devastating wounds on a lethal hit since it skips the rolling for wound.
