One night at a party I found some chain mail. I decided it was a good idea to have someone test it by hitting me with a pool cue. Then decided I needed a control so I had them hit me without armour.... it hurt. Don’t drink, kids.

I fought in the SCA for years wearing a coat of plates with barrel plastic plates. Very protective against rattan batons and blunt swords.

Shad started out in a room by himself now he has vast land, full armor and weapon set, and a whole order of men at arms he founded. The progression is real.

The Shad has a medical condition that he has spoken about in previous videos. Getting winded could potentially put him in hospital.

That's why he likes that green sword so much. Its authenticity and its from Skallagrim! That is awesome!

It's worth remembering that plastic armour is frequently used in various forms by motorcyclists - even large plates in some cases. That stuff can be subjected to some pretty extreme trauma, and it does its job.

Also skateboarding and BMX, they use plastic for pads and helmets with padding. Landed on my knees with pads doesn't even hurt I imagine skating, in a long thick gambeson would actually help with a lot scraps and falls.

Well plastic isn't exactly easy material to cut through, polyurethane is one of these plastics that combines flexibility with decent toughness so it could be quite decent to protect form cuts, but yeah thrusts will overcome it

I'm so glad to see Shad's surgery a while back did its job. You look far livelier than two years ago.

Thanks for the laughs on these tests. It reminds me, many years ago I did a photo-shot for a company making LARP gear, and we had a medieval show-fighting group to provide the testers. They brought their own metal armor, and at first were quite dismissive about the LARP weapons being only foam and looking fake compared to their stuff. But when they found out they could whack each other with them without fear on damage and injury all hell broke loose. :) We all had a lot of fun that day, and the company got some nice promotional shots out of it.

I would love a underappreciated historic weapons episode on the sling. It was used pretty prominently in both Europe and South America as a weapon in addition to being a truly old hunting implement. Actually to go a step further do the History of Rock video Shad. It was used as a material or ammunition in weaponry much much longer than you think
