What can we say....... Switzerland deserves double congratulations: First, because they give us this masterpiece, a minimal sophisticated piece with unique character and identity, deep yet so direct, subtly dark, confident in its own simplicity with an impeccable singing. The three minutes feel like 30 seconds. This is what confirms that a song is successful. Real art. Real quality. Second, because they escaped the Cyprus syndrome, and they didn't go for a remake of "She's got me" despite its success last year. Will the Euroaudience appreciate this music diamond? I hope so but I doubt.

Thank you for being so brave to share it with us, and let's thank Switzerland and this guy, too, for offering us this deeply emotional, almost transcendental experience. I guess many listeners of this song have had similar reactions. This is what Eurovision, music, and generally art are about: to unite us by making us connect to our uninhibited feelings and emotions. So, can he hit the notes live? I'd say he can 😳 kzread.info/dash/bejne/lHhnm8qvic61opM.html I thought maybe he was using some reverb but I've seen several lives of babi, lives even as a little kid in Albania and nope, that IS his voice. I've never heard anything like him. I nearly cried at a rendition of hallelujah (which I do not like, even Cohen didn't like it lol, and I especially despise covers of it) on his webcam in ghis bedroom when he was like 12?! That song in the link is damn near unsingable btw. He managed to also do under pressure in the Voice and get out of it (Bowie /Mercury, helloo) Now I'm just looking forward to the performance, no more sweat. It's going to be just unearthly.

  • @marietg8025

@Tara king they know how hard it is to sing. You already know Mika, he got a few hits in Britain with his very high voice and I don't think he can do that. The guy on the left is Julien Clerc, who knew Daniel Balavoine who wrote it, they were in the same "generation" (he died in the 80s in a helicopter accident during the Paris Dakar, you might have heard of it at the time), so he also knows how difficult the song is forst hand, very likely. The only other singer I've seen attempting this recently is that Asian vocal freak that's viral on KZread, I forget his name. It isn't perfect perfect but répondez moi is a hell of a lot easier to sing than that.

I'm glad I found your video. The first time and now, every time I listen to this song, I must cry and I thought I was stupid or too sentimental. After paying more attention to the lyrics and learning which message the song should transmit, it touches me even more. It's a sad song, but that's not the reason why I cry. There's something spiritual in this song and his voice is angelical. It feels like as if he is talking directly to you, opening his heart and telling you his story. I cannot find the right words to describe it and at first I thought you found them for me. But then the song stroke you just like me and you kind of felt embarrassed, not knowing what happened to you or how to explain your feelings. I know exactly how you felt.

@@ESCTom I figured you'd bawl again seeing the lyrics so I waited 😊 Tbh I really was terrified you'd hate it, and now you seem to be the one terrified others will hate it. Because this is so authentic and so personal and touches something so deep that someone hating the song is like someone hating on you, if that makes sense. That's how the Balkans feel about their ballads you know, that's why they get so hurt when they are dismissed out of hand by foreigners. Talking about the Balkans and clearly Albania, it seems to go down well there. As it fucking should! I never thought I'd see something so elevated in the contest tbh. I'm still processing.

This is fantastic from Switzerland. What a vocal performance!! So good to see your reaction Tom....this is what music, great music, should be able to do. This will be pure jury bait in Rotterdam...... When the Swiss dumped their terrible national selection process, they really upped their game....... France are you listening?......you have such an advantage in your language and culture and you select one of the more disappointing entries...Switzerland has shown you how its done....Germany saw the Swiss epiphany last year and virtually applied "copy and paste" and produced a fantastic entry for 2020. You don't have to throw money at staging a stunt on the Eiffel Tower to produce quality....get the raw material first and go from there.... Well done Switzerland and well done Tom for showing what this song meant to you on first listen👏👏👏🇨🇭🇨🇭🇨🇭🇨🇭

its so surreal to see a country start to so completely "get it" so quickly. I love the irony that he wanted to represent France, the country which has "got it" the least this year and they rejected him. If he actually submitted this to DE, then there will be bloody murder. Its one thing to receive no good entries to DE, its another to have got a song like this and pass on it for that utter tribe

Hi Tom, again and again I 'm watching your reaction to "Réponzez-moi", stunning how you shared this unique experience with your (unknown) audience. Honestly, my tears roll over my face each and every time rewatching your reaction video with Gjons outrages song and your euphorical and earthquaking inner break down reaction at the same time. What I see on and on is a powerfull, highly sensitive, humble, openminded human being, not covering the big vulnarability of each of us all, that may hit everyone at any moment in our life. Chapeau, man, to teach us what is really important and how much we have to care about each other. Please note the following suggestion: Listen to Dimash Songs from Kasachstan in the following row (IMPORTANT, please do it so): 1. "SOS" (2017 performance, absoulutly crucial, because .... you will see) 2. "Opera 2" (2017 performance), 3. "Hello" (2017 performance) 4. "The show must go on" (2017) and finally 5. My actual highlight: "Love is like a dream" (14.4.2019 version). Why you should follow my suggestion: Dimash is not only an extraterrestrial as you named Gjons voice, Dimash is the central star of another universe! When you listen to him, you will agree! I would love, if you record your first contacts with Dimash to share this with your fans as me and I promiss you will go throu more unforgettable moments in your life (such as with "Répondez-moi"). I've watched your review about 5 times now and each time I get the same goosebumps from the song as much as I'm touched by your response to it. What you said at the start of the video definitely rings true with this song: you can only listen to a song for the first time once. Even before I'd translated the lyrics, there's a pool of so many emotions you can't initially understand, which adds to the beauty of it, but somehow you end up feeling everything Gjon conveys to the listener with his voice alone. It's such a stunning piece and, like you say, far bigger than this competition. I know I'm rambling but I really wanted to finally join in on the appreciation for this song (I am IN LOVE with it) as well as say how precious you are and I'm loving your channel. Hugs!

@@ESCTom I absolutely agree. I was emotional last year with Arcade; it hit a nerve musically and vocally with me, nearly every reaction I watched was emotional as well and I can remember everything, but this song feels completely different to those emotions. For me, knowing I can never get that moment back listening to it the first time frustrates me as I feel like I don't have it anymore (deep, I know lol.) The way the song built as it progressed slowly pulled me in, and that vocal in the chorus punched me in the heart, your reaction to that was my favourite part! But I'm honoured you shared your emotions with us, and I get to relive the song myself! And also that you didn't really tell us to go away 😂
