    An excellent explanation Mike between the difference of Tempo and Timing! I know when my swing is out of sorts, I blame it more on timing than on tempo! Your suggestion of taking the club in both hands at hip level and moving back and forth as with a golf swing is a great drill to use for timing! Well Done Mike!!!

    I don’t think I’ve ever heard that the movement was from the top of the head to the souls of the feet but as I practice with my SwingRite with that thought I get a smoother more powerful feeling swing. In 1973 Nicklaus and Jacklin left a note in Tom Weiskopfs locker before the last round at Troon. It said rhythm plus timing equals TEMPO. It got him to victory that year. How sad that Weiskopf passed just short of 50 years since his Open victory.

    Is there a sequence to the The Easiest Swing? If the turning your back to the target is #1 and turning your chest to the target is #2, is the down swing #3? Should the downswing be with the forward turn (i.e. shaft with belt buckle at impact or should the hips lead the shaft at impact? Keep up the good work, I love all the content.

  • @Easiestswing

    Hi John thanks for the kind words. Once freed from the constraints of head still lead heel stuck to the ground and lead arm straight you need to relax and allow your body to work its own way out. Provided you are relaxed the sequence will become automatic rather than deliberate or contrived. ES is all about you finding your own best way rather than conforming to someone else’s idea of a “perfect” swing. Trust your own innate ability and you will find your way. As this becomes your own authentic swing it is much easier to repeat than some movement that is unnatural to you.

    Great distinction between tempo and timing. During this video I noticed how the tempo of you ball striking swing is so much quicker than your, and others, demonstrations of “La Danes”. Should “La Danse” be performed progressively faster, up to matching your actual swing speed? Thanks!

    Thanks Bob and great observation with the tempo of La Danse compared to the full swing. Highly recommend you watch this video of ours kzread.info/dash/bejne/ZIh3rZiAd7bJms4.html Exactly as you note, La Danse du Golf is performed and practiced slowly, to create a sort of muscle memory and increased awareness of your movement during the exercise. It is also good to practice speeding it up till things start to get out of synchronisation and back down again. You will find an optimum point where all of the 6 basics work in harmony together. That can emulate your swing tempo. Hope that helps

    Mike,shocked you dont get more views. I'm 6 handicap and struggle with aggressive over top swing. I watch Le dance and no one appears [including you] to actually swing with that tempo and timing in real swing. In slow motion, your head is centered in backswing and does release coming through. However the tempo appears much quicker in real swing. That's why I have hard time with Easiest Swing because Le dance drill is too easy/lazy and does not reflect "real" swing which is much quicker . Any thoughts?

    Mike is great at explaining concepts that are easy to understand. More viewers are welcome! Great observation though with regards to tempo and La Danse du Golf. Let's see if we can help you get to grips with Easiest Swing and La Danse. La Danse du Golf is purposefully done slowly in practice, this allows your body and nervous system to become trained in the movement, making it become automatic, by feeling all the parts that make up the 6 basics of a great golf swing. There is nothing stopping you from speeding it up to the point you find yourself struggling to stay balanced, co-ordinated and with good rhythm and tempo. This may well reflect your golf swing. By slowing it down, staying relaxed and tension free you will find all 6 basics will work in harmony. La Danse is a template, a blueprint, it is up to the golfer how it is used.

    I also miss Brian. He managed to cure my years of shanking - during just a quick phone call from France. Genius coach. I've always struggled with the timing part of the easiest swing; keeping my club coordinated in front of my body. I'm ok keeping the club in front of my body during the danse - but with the arms extended, the club always lags behind my body. The more I relax my arms, the more it lags behind. The faster I swing (to normal speed), the more it lags behind. Any clues for addressing this issue? Am I thinking about it the wrong way?

    Yes we all miss Brian so much and thanks to having the honour to continue his life's work we feel his spirit lives through us, every day. I am curious if you are a subscriber to our newsletters as the June topic is rhythm. It also includes a podcast about tempo. I invite you have a listen to that (see link below) and it suggests a few exercises dealing with tempo. One in particular stands out for me which I have a feeling may help you as it seems your concern here is about tempo. The exercise that comes to mind is what is called the 'machine gun drill 'where you line a number of balls up one next to another and just strike the balls. Once you hit the first few you may begin to feel your backswing speeds up (we are often told to swing it back 'slow' which can be very detrimental, rather think 'easy'). Have a go at this and you may very well begin to find your own tempo (which the podcast suggests should be a 3:1 ratio). Here is the link to the podcast and definitely subscribe to future newsletters if you haven't already. open.spotify.com/episode/3ogZ5lCSfmjwXrNbIGL3Yz Please let us know if this helps.

    @@Easiestswing I've listened to the podcast, but my problem is less of tempo and more about 'coordination' (in ES term). Once the danse is sped up with a club, the club can never keep up with the body (unless it is driven by the arms). Have you written / videoed on coordination? Any recommendations? Thank you.

  • @Easiestswing

    @Easiestswing

    Жыл бұрын

    Mike's demonstration shows that having your intention on brushing the ground is better placed than intending to take a divot. A divot is consequential dependent on a number of factors, which can include, club selection, ground conditions, shot intention and your level of club control. Easiest Swing is the same as every other method in this respect.

    Swing slow ; swing slow & swing slow - make your backswing slow and feel as if your downswing is the same speed as your backswing - by swinging slow , your tempo and your timing will improve automatically- think slow back , & slow down - It works - forget about mechanics - work on tempo - I’d rather have great tempo than great swing positions/mechanics

    Why? The only reason is because you're not missing the sweet spot by a mile compared to somebody who can swing a bit faster but is way off. There, I saved everybody a click and 5 minutes worth of their time. Note however, this does not work if you do swing faster and hit it flush. Then you can swing faster and hit the ball further than some scrub with a slow swing.
