I think he has really blossomed since he came to Sweden ❤️ The video you saw was the live performance from Sweden’s Song Contest. There was NO AUDIENCE at this live broadcast. You are correct that “Tusse” came as a lonely child from Congo when he was 8 years old, he escaped from the wars. Lives with a Swedish family since then. Lost his parents during his travels to Sweden. We are very happy to have him represent our country in Eurovision. I interpret the lyrics as the people that are stuck in the war zone still 😰

Sweden has many excellent musicians. Korean K POP idols' hit songs have been composed by Swedish music producers since early 2010s. I think it contributed the globalization of K POP. Buuut.. if people on the night want a song that is simple and is easy to remember and to sing along to then anything can happen. Because Voices is very easy to remember compared to other songs. Maybe basic is not always bad. Voices has an earworm that I can't say other songs have this year. Why complicate things? But we'll see what will happen in May.. And what swedes do good as they always do.. is the staging, a very important factor to do well in this contest. If favourites fail.. then someone else might snatch the trophy. I think Sweden is a dark horse because of it's simplicity.

I’m sad that you had to come to Sweden as a refugee and loose your whole family in the process. If your parents would know what an awesome person you have become - I’m sure they would be super proud of you!!! Thank God for your survival story and you have adapted well to Sweden en every way. When you won the Swedish Song Contest and asked Christer if you would go alone to the ESC by bus (😱🙏🏻💕) and if you would get to stay the night in a hotel, my heart melted!! You are so innocent and pure, don’t think that Europe knows what they didn’t vote for!! You have won anyways, you have grown, learned about the world and I hope that you stay as humble as before, even after this amazing experience at the Eurovision Song Contest. There's always a lot of talk that Sweden will always do well because it's Sweden, and UK will never do well because everyone hates the UK etc. But then Israelis used to say the same until they suddenly won the whole thing in 2018. I really don't think the country makes a difference. If you look at most other countries in top 10 the last few years, a lot of the songs are fairly generic but well produced pop songs. As such, Sweden doesn't really stand out there in terms of the type or quality of music, and would likely have placed the same regardless of the country of origin.

It's a song that's trying to be really meaningful but the lyrics are so cliche and predictable that it doesn't really make you feel anything. Slightly uplifting, middle of the road songs are what Sweden seem to specialise in for the last number of years. Will they ever find something like "Amar Pelos Dois", "1944", "Arcade" or something as risky/creative as "Toy"? I'm not so sure about that

Denis There is a difference between merely "not inventing something new" and "doing literally the same thing one has been doing every year since 'Heroes' won". The lyrics of "Voices" are also a prime example of peak vapidity: Just standard words for the sake of having lyrics, with about as much meaning behind them as Jessica Mauboy's "We Got Love". "Arcade", meanwhile, set up one unusual metaphor and managed to carry it across the entire song consistently.

I think Tusse is great. But the song is a bit meh. I agree that it’s very predictable. After you’ve heard the chorus once the rest of the song doesn’t really offer anything, which is a shame. Having something unpredictable close to the end of the song could have elevated it. Personally I also prefer the studio version to the live performance. I think the vocals have more nuance and flavour, which the song itself is kind of lacking. I predict squeaking by to the final (semi 1 is looking really tough!) and a bottom half finish in the final.

This song is so generic that Ireland have a better chance of qualifying, and normally Ireland send bad entries on purpose (they didn't this year, though). Don't get me wrong, Voices is catchy, but it can't possibly hold a candle to the likes of France, Switzerland, Malta, Cyprus, Ukraine, etc.

Yeah, maybe not, but I think it won mostly because it resonates with people a lot, like politically and morally, especially with the recent year, with BLM and COVID-19. In Sweden the political climate is very rocky rn, and since melodifestivalen is such a big thing here I think this song is very important to the people, and I think they don’t care too much about how it goes in Eurovision. Tusse is also a person with a very sad past and he’s been through a lot, and have shown himself and people allowed him into their hearts, he’s been important in other Swedish programs, such as got talent and he also won Swedish idol.

Funnily enough you seem to have no problem praising other entries who are generic like Malta or Ireland. But I get it, its trendy to bash Swedish entries, especially on Wiwibloggs..

i don't know why people force like good song this and "growing up is getting old" when they are bad. They are so overrated. Vasil with Here i stand is so much better,it's so high quality and its not predictable like other songs and he along with Destiny have the best voice this year.

Totally agree that "Voices" and "growing up is getting old" are so overrated. "growing up is getting old" sounds so forced, like the composers try to writing a nostalgic, sad, slow melody with poetry lyrics, but it does not work. But I have to say "Here is stand" is not so good neither. I feel like Vasil try to lead me to somewhere but after 2 minutes I still don't know what he is going to show me, and the high note at the end is just not worth that 3 minutes.

Im not forcing to like sweden but i will admit people are force liking greece azerbaijan and bulgaria because they like the artists and they are (queens). Its pretty obvious they are all middle of the road and the artists are not queens. Azerbaijan is boring and goes nowhere. A very lazy upbeat song that has an awful boring drop.

Thats the bad thing this year does not compare to 2018 or 2016 for example. There is no song that screams winner or amazing like cyprus bulgaria hungary etc 2018. And ukraine australia russia bulgaria 2016.

@@mc-cm4ze Well, having no clear winner from the outset certainly makes the "horse race" part of the competition more interesting... ^^ Kind of like in 2011, when Azerbaijan won more or less out of the blue. That said, even with a very strong contender for the win, surprises can happen, such as in 2017, when Italy was already treated as the inevitable winner and then Portugal came along at the last moment. So I'd rather have some stronger songs that I'd still enjoy going back to after the contest, and if they win, all the better - if not, then we still get the benefit of the surprise. Now however it's more like "may the least mediocre song win"... ^^

if this song was from another country it´ll definetaly be in the bottom 10, but since it´s from Sweden it is not., They always get overwhelming support for middle of the road songs like this one.,... Voices was not my favourite in melodifestivalen but atleast i can respect even if it’s ”generic” (wich i agree with) that’s not always bad

The Mango Spy Sweden bashing is entirely based on the feeling that sub-par songs are getting undeservingly high places just because of the country they're representing. Whenever Sweden sends songs with widespread televote appeal, the community will come back to hype them up. I would have loved to see Sweden win with a song like "Behöver inte dig idag". But when they instead keep sending stuff like this, they're literally asking for Sweden bashing to continue. I agree "Voices" is a "fully package"... as full as a McDonald's happy-meal bag. 😜 It's an industry product, and easily recognizable as such.
