SWCP Day 35 Bigbury to Salcombe 4K

Having successfully crossed the Erme the previous week I was all set for 3 days back on the bath. Starting at Bigbury-On-Sea I soon reached Cockleridge where you are instructed to ring a bell and wave at the thatched cottage to attract the ferryman to take you across the river Avon. Easy but busy paths saw me pass Bantham and on to the magnificent archway of Thurlestone Rock. Shortly after I reached the double village of Outer Hope and Inner Hope. A long but easy climb out of Hope Cove marks the start of some quieter and more dramatic sections full of high cliffs and large Tors towering over the sea. Before I knew it I had reached the turquoise waters of Starehole Bay just short of Salcombe. The final couple of miles are easy walking and ended with a Gin. What a magnificent part of the coast. One of my favourite walks since West Cornwall.

This brought back some memories😀 On our walkingholiday from Plymouth to Brixham we stayed at a B&B in Challaborough and then walked on to Salcombe. Remember that nerve-racking cliffwalk very well. The landscape is spectacular. Beautiful filming,as always🌸

Thank you Elina I hope I captured it in a way that did it justice. You wouldn’t want to take a stumble on that cliff section!

I watched day 1 yesterday evening. Just finished day 35! These types of video are very addictive. This is definitely one for the future, I've already created a word document with 6 sections including daily itinerary and possible campsites 🤣 Looking forward to the rest of the videos. Another good video mate, I really like your constant upbeat attitude and how you take the micky out of yourself. The weather there looked a lot better than when I walked Bude to Newquay the same weekend, the wind was harsh and constant for most of it.

Hey mate, just thanks for chronicling you walk. I’ve watched you since your first leg from Minehead, that seems like a long time ago! Your videos inspired me to get out and knock a couple of sections off myself but I won’t be able to do the whole thing in one go until retired 😂! Will be a sad day when you actually complete the SWCP!

Hi Iain. Thanks for sticking around and watching. Yes it does feel like a long time ago. It feels even longer when I think of all the miles that I’ve covered since then. Great stuff that you’ve done some too. I’m sure I’ll find something to fill my time when I’m finished. I think I’d like to do a series of walks and camps on the coast on some of my favourite sections.
