Great bike, I have a 2012. What sprocket did you change? Front to a 16 tooth, rear also? Your bike sounded ridiculously quiet early in the video when it looked like you were doing 60-65 indicated. Mine is screaming at that speed with a 16 tooth front (drive) sprocket and factory rear.

Justin Williams I changed the front sprocket only. I also swapped out the stock tires with one size up tires front and rear. As far as the noise, my mic doesn’t really pick up too much sound from this bike, but I also have a slip-on exhaust so that may change things too. Hope this helps!

Talking about your concerns as a first-time rider is something I highly relate to, so this was largely applicable for me. I also grew up being told bikes are so dangerous and what-not, so I think that instilled a little bit of fear in me. But I'm highly pushing to obtain one this year. Thanks. Valuable video. :)

Love our Tu!... we have a total of 4 bikes in our garage and this one is so much fun. GF put over 14k on it over 3 seasons before getting her Fz-07. Once she was done with it I went the brat route too with drag bars, custom paint, new muffler, header wrap, etc. A blast to ride.

Great review! Thanks... I also have a TU250X and love it! Another point that could be made (in terms of the fun factor) is that this bike has the kind of engine that loves to work at the higher end of each gear. So, even though this is not a powerful bike, it goes "to beat the band" if you work the gearbox to its potential (at the higher end of each gear before shifting).... Note: with the stock sprocket the top end is 75 mph. The bike is happiest at 55 to 60 miles per hour.

Nice video, got my TU250x over the winter. It's been a great enty point for me and totally agree that it's a fanastic confidence builder. Saving my sanity during the quarantine! Wish I could have found one already modded like yours, love the looks but I lack the willingness to spend money to mod it out myself. At that point I'll be looking to upgrade to my current dream bike, a Moto Guzzi V7. The Tu250x is so awesome though so I feel like I won't be compelled to scratch that itch for a while. Happy ridding.

I'm a big guy (270). I've read on the TU groups of guys that are my size that do well riding the TU. But, I don't think these folks live where there are substantial hills. But for a town bike or a country road bike, this is tough to beat. Rebel 300 is pretty much the only competition. Great review. I appreciate your classy ways and proper use of language. Ride safe.

Enjoyed the vlog! SR400 Owner but took my MSF on the TU, both are great bikes! May even pick a TU up as well if a used one comes my way. Neither are the fastest but that’s not what they are built for and you can actually bang through the gears without going too much over the speed limit. Plus, they’re still fun to ride at 35-45mph which is why I love small singles. I have my track bike for my speed fix but on the street and given the option, I’d pick the SR or TU over the sport bikes any day of the week. Also, shifting/technique will get better with time (I was the false neutral king lol) wasn’t sure if I’d be able to get the hang of it but I never skip a beat now. overall you’re form is good ✌🏼

Nice to see another video on this one... that's awesome Mine is a 2013 and has the same mileage purchased mine brand new.. I bought that EMGO exhaust you suggested! I've topped out the needle on this bike many times. Yes a 16 tooth front sprocket is the key. Upgraded the Interceptor 650 with led head light,DNA filter and Red Rooster exhaust. I'm 6'1 and It is interesting.

Love the videos and the bike. I have a 1999 GZ250 that I picked up super cheap. I absolutely love riding it. 250’s are just so much fun compared to bigger bikes. I am thinking of selling the GZ and getting a TU.

Im totally with you on riding in cold weather, having gone past my 30's any temps below 50 degrees just aint where I wanna be on two wheels and I used to ride when it was basically freezing out. Did hit black ice once on a highway off ramp on my current Yamaha Stryker but the event didnt register until I was punching in for work, thank God it was just the rear stepping out a tiny bit but it gripped right after the baby fishtail. Breathing that cold air on a ride just aint in me like it used to be. My first motorcycle was an 06' Kymco Venox 250cc which is basically a Taiwanese Honda Rebel and damn it was the most fun sh*t ever then I thought I was ready to "upgrade" to a bigger machine only six months in... Long story gets longer here lol, so Im on my current Yamaha Stryker and found that I was just terrible AF at low speed turns , u turns and turns from a stop I was almost gonna quit. Then I clicked on a RideLikeAPro video and they talked about rear brake control, and that literally unlocked a new interest in riding motorcycles and thank God I found it. Well thanks again for the video, have a blessed weekend and hope you ride alot and ride safe. New subscriber here, I got some youtube videos but its been at least a year since Ive put up new stuff.

i miss having ridonkulous mpg and mid foot controls on a motorcycle, these tu250x's were what we rode at motorcycle school and I thought they were fast at the time

A TU would be a great first bike, but even used, they're a little pricey and a bit down on power for a 250 vs their competitors. I've ridden a TU (loved it) but ended up with a Ninja 250 instead. Cheaper to buy/own, equally new-rider-friendly, and the extra ~12HP doesn't hurt. I'd recommend cross-shopping a Ninja 250/300 before picking one.

Good advice, too. I did own a Honda CBR250R for a bit and it did have a bit more pep than the TU. Always a good idea to sit on one and do a test ride if possible.

z400s are incredible beginner bikes. low seat height, ABS and slipper assist clutch. plus having 399cc is enough to grow into but not too much to start out on.

I love my TU as well. Can you provide more detail on the new tires you purchased? This is really the only change I want to make to my bike this summer.

Nice looking bike! quasi brat style. A detailed tour would be helpful, so we can drool over it. 😁

I stripped ours down and gave it some sporty touches. Looked pretty good, then thought I might sell it, so I put it back to stock and polished him all up. It really does look like a baby Bonney.. Took some pics of it to post then went for a nice ride.. the little fella sang his heart out in a soulful sort of way.. when I returned I felt like an executioner.. so I apologized for thinking such thoughts and tucked him in alongside the others in the garage. Now everyone's happy again. 😐

The Suzuki TU250 is an awesome bike. I rode my little TU250 from NYC to TN to conquer the Tail of the Dragon. It was an epic road trip. Proves you don't need a big powerful bike in order to have fun. Also, the TU definitely can do 80mph on the highway, it just doesn't ride comfortable at that speed, but it can do 65-70mph all day long~

Thanks! Very cool about your bike purchase. Most of the mods on my bike were done by the previous owners, so I don't have specifics. Previous owners cut down the rear fender (plastic) and mounted the seat, I think they just unbolted the rear frame. They also mounted the plate onto the chain guard and installed the mirrors. I did change out the handlebar though - they're 7/8" black drag bars. Sorry I don't have more details. I've been wanting to do a mod / walkaround video for the bike, just need to film it.

Seems like a nice little bike.... I hate the cold too. I'm the biggest wuss when it comes to riding in the cold... and cold here is like mid-50's.

Sounds like you do better than me in the cold! 😅 But I’m always amazed at how some are able to manage it.

I always dress warm when riding a motorcycle. It's easier just a too unzip or remove a layer than underdressed. I ride a 2016 tu250x, orange tank. Everything you said about the tu250x is true. I am 5'5" so getting a bike with a low seat height is a priority for me. A 2019 or later Triumph Street Twin has my interest for my next bike. Seat height is 29.9 inches.

I actually bought the TU with these mirrors on them so I'm not sure what kind they are. Sorry can't be more help there! I did just post a video though about installing Motogadget mirrors on a Royal Enfield. I really like them, but they're kind of pricey so just depends on how much you want to spend.

just got one of these last weekend and i have been loving the mess out of it! question for you Joy, did you go up a tire size on the front or back? im having trouble finding the tire sizes for this bike. i have found some but theyre tubeless and that brings me to my next question, should i make sure to replace the tires with other tube tires, or is it prefrence?

Congrats on your TU! Yes, I went up one size on both tires. 100/90 in the front and 120/90 in the rear (Dunlop). My preference was to stick with tubed tires.

May I ask how much you paid for one? It's not sold in my country and I'm thinking about buying one on the US and import it

I took my rider safety class on a TU 250...first bike I ever rode. I loved it and thought I could be happy with a bike like that forever. Then I got my 06 Ninja 250, which feels like a Huyabusa by comparison (28 manly HP vs 16 wimpy HP!). I still love the TU 250, but I don't think I could be happy with any less power than I currently have. That having been said, I love the smaller bikes like these. If you're a rider and you can't have fun on a 250, the problem is you, not the bike.

Great insight! I’ll agree that it can be hard to go from riding something more powerful to the TU. I once made the mistake of taking the TU out after I just got back from a ride on the Lightning. 😬😅

Subscribed but missed this. I have a 2012 tu250x. Only mod I've mad is changed front (drive) sprocket from 15 teeth to 16 teeth to drop RPMs at speed, at the sacrifice of a bit of start-off torque. I really want to know what mods you have on this. I see you're doing 60 in a lot of the video (is that mph/kph?) Doing 60mph for me, the engine still sounds like it is screaming....maybe it's your microphone but yours sounds so much quieter to me!!!

I've been wanting to do a walk around video for this bike for the longest time to talk about mods. Just haven't done it yet, but I should soon. That would be 60 mph. I have the Emgo exhaust. Not sure what you have, but that might change the sound of things. Have you seen my Emgo video? Towards the middle/end of the video I have the camera mounted next to the exhaust and you can hear it reach 70 mph >> kzread.info/dash/bejne/o2l8o5epda2yiLQ.html

You could get it to go 90mph rolling it off a cliff :) As you already have figured out though, it doesn't really matter on the Tu-250. It's designed to tolerate but not excel at freeway. I wanted to give you a push up that hill when you were saying that. Funny thing is, light bikes spoil you, and it's really hard to find 'bigger' bikes that don't feel relatively clumsy and heavy.

Lol, the cliff. Yes absolutely, the point of the TU is not to be at highway speeds all the time... or ride very hilly roads. That's something I love about my Lightning, is that it gives me a way to ride a more powerful bike but at a relatively small size.

Get heated grips, recommend Oxford. The blood in your hands is heated and the heat is circuated throughout your body. They require 4 watts for for both grips. Ed March had them on his Honda 90 going thru Canada in the winter. Your TUx can handle them.

What mic/helmet setup are you using? The audio is great!

Andrew MacMillan Not using anything on the Schuberth. Basically mounted the GoPro to the front, attached the GoPro mic adapter to the GoPro, then plugged the gaming mic into the other end of the mic adapter. Then shove the mic into the helmet near the front of the helmet.

What size seat did you use?

Which handlebar do u have?

I rode the Indian Scout last summer. I rented it for a day and it felt like she was gonna come apart at 70. I think that one was a950 or so. But it felt good to ride a naked bike as mine is a 14 Harley Ultra Ltd at 950 pounds. 😎😎

It’s always fun to get on something lighter and more nimble. Though the TU can go faster no problem, I do feel like a comfortable max speed for it is around 55.

Nice video. I'm so close to buying one of these! I passed on a 2015 model a couple months ago uncertain about my personal plans, after just missing out on a 2009 that was bought before I could see it, but now the world is paused I know now I'm not going anywhere soon and found a 2011 for sale that I may pick up this week. I know there's no kick-start, but on the 2015 model I tested, there seemed to be a place where there can be one added - do you know about this? I feel the same as you; I'm smaller, newer to riding, confident on small bikes and not sure I need to go for 500cc. I am considering something like a CB350 or SR400, but the TU250 seems to be right in so many ways.

I know used ones can be hard to come by (at least in my area)... I'm even surprised I found mine! Did you end up picking up that 2011? No, I don't know anything about adding a kickstart. I think the TU is an awesome beginner bike though, all the best in your search!

I respectfully disagree. The Ninja 250 is the Miata of Motorcycles. The TU250 is the MG or Triumph TR7 of motorcycles. Not quite as powerful, but dripping with nostalgia and character. In either case, as long as you don't define "having fun" as setting a new land speed record, the TU is an awesome bike.

I love this bike, but there’s only one thing holding me back from getting it. It doesn’t have ABS and as a beginner I feel this is essential for me and makes me more comfortable riding. Damnit I wish they would put ABS in it

I was worried it would be too underpowered for the highway before I bought mine, but it can manage highway speeds (~70mph) okay! It’ll also depend on the size of the rider, wind conditions, etc.

I'm looking for my first bike for chill joy rides and local commutes and I'm into the cafe style aesthetic. I'm also very short for a guy at 5'4" so I've been worried about being too small for most bikes. Could this be the bike I've been looking for

I'm extremely biased, but I'd encourage you to look at a pre-gen (88 to 07) Ninja 250 for your starter bike. They're cheap to buy/own/insure, ridiculously reliable, parts are readily available, and honestly you'll appreciate the extra 10-12HP.

Im short at 5'5 and I've been looking between this and the burgman 200. I like the idea and storage of the scooter, but I have a feeling the motorcycle may have better longevity. My biggest fear with the motorcycle is the shifting.

I started on a scooter and really loved having that storage space. But at the same time, really love the extra power a motorcycle provides (even if the power on the TU isn't too great). I had a hard time with shifting. Practice and time helped to solve that. But I do think riding the TU in particular really helped me get over my issue with shifting.

Get the TU... shifting gears will become one of your favorite parts of riding once you learn and it won’t take long to get the hang of it.

@@messageinathrottle4046 so I went with a 400cc maxi scooter, and I will say that I truly enjoy not shifting. However, I do think not having clutch control something that I miss having. Doing U turns on pure throttle controll is actually a bit more difficult.

Where do you live? Just wondering bc I'm on craigslist looking at a 2013 silver TU250x with 4000 miles, with a cafe racer kit and clubman handlebars ... Is this just a crazy coincidence?

im a 6"2 heavy set guy around close to 300 pounds... would i need to get a more beefy bike or could this handle me in your opinion

You are a little tall to ride this bike comfortably, in my opinion... it can handle your weight, no problem... go sit on one.... good luck!

@@iou5k9 Thanks very much! The mesh is a metal mesh grill headlight cover. Picked it up from a local shop so not sure which brand it was. It was kind of tough to get on though and we had to think creatively! Other ones might not be so tricky though.

I paid around $2600 for mine used (I think, can’t exactly remember). But they are $4600ish new. I’d check your local moto shop to see if they sell them, or something like Craigslist if you want to buy used.

Angry Yak Hi! I would say it’s definitely worth looking at it if you haven’t already. That price is comparable to the price I paid for mine for the mileage. Just depends on how good of shape it’s in. Good luck!

It depends on the road and wind. I’ve gotten it to about 85mph. Maybe it could go higher (90ish) depending on conditions. But I’ve also been at full throttle only able to go 65 or less, so going faster isn’t always possible.

If you're still alive lady l strongly urge you to research the defensive riding technique commonly referred to as BUFFERING

Please learn to use the clutch first. It does not need to to be pulled all the way in. Load the gear selector with some pressure and just squeeze it in past the friction point. 16t sprocket turns the bike into a 4 speed. I can do 110kmh in 3rd. 1204th. 5 does nothing. Keep the original 15t sprocket. Who would have thought the beginners at suszuki know a thing or two

With the title of the video and the description, what were you expecting exactly? This isn’t a numbers and specs review, but “why I bought a TU250X and how it helped me gain confidence riding a motorcycle” kind of video. You’d be right in saying I don’t know fast is goes, okay. Or is it because I say words like “might” and “pretty sure” because I don’t want to make certain claims?
