Suzuki GSX-S 1000GT (2022) Review | Sport Tourer Road Test | Visordown.com
To find out how the new Suzuki GSX-S1000GT handles a typical UK tour, we set off for Scotland and a sample of the North Coast 500.
Suzuki GSX-S1000GT (2022) tested in true Scottish weather! | £11,599 | 150bhp | 226kg
BACK in the day, there were bikes that roamed the planet that offered true sports bike handling dynamics, bags of comfort and more than enough room for two people, plus luggage.
Fast forward to today and they have all been pretty much killed off by the seemingly unstoppable march of the adventure bike. And while pretty much any bike can be sporty, and all of them can do the touring thing, there are many of these true, long-distance sports bikes left to choose from. Enter the new 2022 Suzuki GSX-S1000GT as it steps into a class that holds just a handful of competitors.

People keep banging on about this & I agree, my preference is for symmetrical headlights (I have a CBR650R) - but apparently the asymmetrical thing is better for safety as it stops you being interpreted as a far-away car at night. The fact that your headlights don't fit a car pattern forces an oncoming driver to assess what vehicle you are & what they should do. Aside from that, is this really going to be what makes or breaks this motorcycle for you ? Really ?

Well done Suzuki, finally another sport tourer (after Ninja 1000SX) on the market. On the paper 226kg and 152hp is what I was waiting for years from Honda. I am sure 1000GT will be a big success.

Looks like the promise has been delivered. Pretty stupendous bike. I already stopped by my local dealership and the salesperson never even heard of it. Was also told Suzuk is really lagging on delivering inventory. Hope to have this in my garage by the end of summer - and I really don't mind waiting. Just to make sure, will be hopping on an SX and 9GT to see how they fit. But, man, what incredible choices we have! No real compromises in any of them. Looking quite forward to the head-to-head with the SX!

Great value at the price point, however, 900 notes for panniers? To put it into perspective, around 8% of the price of the complete bike at mrrp. Manufacturers optional extras are simply extortionate. How is it Sinnis offer panniers and topbox for their latest adventure bike for just £250? The cost and markup on options just stinks.

Slightly surprised to hear the first impressions putting the GSX-S 1000GT as sportier than the Ninja 1000 SX. I rode the Ninja last year too and I felt it quite sporty. To me it even seemed like the kind of bike you could tour on but also take to a track day here and there. Glad that you're doing a comparison. I've a request: I'm really interested to hear a comparison between the servicing costs, especially the larger services.

Comparing the Z1000sx and the previous model gsxs f, the suzuki was the sportier of the two. So I feel like with the GT they were trying to keep that sportiness while taking some sales off kawasaki by matching the comfort and luggage carrying of the Z. Seems like they've achieved that!

A Hayabusa and ZX-14R with sidecases, both still ridicule the H2SXSE. 2021 Hayabusa > 2021 H2SXSE (0-60mph, quarter mile, dashboard) 2021 GSX-S1000GT > Ninja 1000SX Tourer 2022 Multistrada V4S and KTM Super Duke GT and Adventure S > H2SXSE (for 25k plus the H2SXSE has neither the electronics nor the riding aides nor the handling, nor in comfort, nor the high level of suspension of the 3 better sporty tourers and the H2SXSE has way shorter service intervals). H2SXSE and ZH2 (cool bikes) but claimed 200hp, but really around close to 170hp on the wheels on dyno and the power comes way too late (hence the bad acceleration times for such power) No way near of what the original H2 is in real world performance.

Love this bike but i do miss the four cylinder bike against my triplet and the more sportier bike as the Suzuki. Its great that more sport touring bikes is back on the market. Imagine honda will made a cbr 900-1000 cc and more of sporttouring bike with a more upriding position wow what a lovely bike that would be. I think the cbr650r is the most lovely looking bike out there but not like the front forward position. I want a swiss army mc that do all of this and still with a sportier look with a four cc that can handle this with luggage and with a pillion space, a bike within 900-1000 cc to bring the price and insurance cost down. Will this ever happen before the electric bike takes over. Please Honda make this bike. Yes this Suzuki is on its way but not as near at the cbr650r regarding the looks. Why cant anyone build a sportier bike that looks nice with a four cylinder and built for a more touring like bike at a better price and lower cc to bring the cost and insurance cost down. decades of riding high horsepower bikes. I mean it has been almost 30 years since I’ve had a motorcycle with less than 50 hp.. on an impulse I bought a Kawasaki Z 400.. it’s actually more fun. You have to work at it to maintain momentum on the back roads by staying off the brakes and maintaining your speed by cornering at higher speeds. You can’t just pull the trigger and get your speed back. It is so light, and because it is light it does not need 2 gyros/flywheels adding to the unsprung weight and making the machine harder to rotate left right, I’m talking about double disc’s in the second caliper and pads and hoses and bolts. That’s a lot of unsprung weight. Unsprung weight is so critical to handling and suspension that Porsche uses titanium Lugnuts on the wheels on for years.. I don’t mind getting 66 miles per gallon one bit. I also don’t get roasted in warm weather.. I wish a company like Suzuki or Kawasaki would make a 400 version of a sport tour with bags.. not everyone needs to have a machine capable of 140 miles an hour. I never go over 75. Never have on the public roads or interstate. Not even back when I was road racing or I won six road racing championships and was national champion two times in my class.

How would you rate this against the BMW R1250RS? I currently ride a naked 2017 GSX S1000 and thinking about upgrading to a bike with better wind protection, comfort, suspension and throttle response - more suited for spirited sport-touring. I wonder if this GT is such a big step up from my current bike. Granted, the BMW costs more than the GT, but it also has adaptive suspension, IMU-assisted ABS, heaps of torque down low and little amenities like keyless go, shaft drive, centerstand. Would miss the roar of the K5 engine, but the BMW seems like a more complete bike.

You have a lot more aftermarket parts for BMW and better quality components. It is also not much more. You can get it for only a few grand more if you buy it a year or two old. IMO depends on your needs - for long touring/a lot mileage per year without a doubt RS.

Exactly my conundrum. I'm stuck between this GT and the R 1250 RS. I like the engine and sportiness better on the GT but the BMW like you said is more complete with keyless start, adaptive suspension, IMU ABS, DTC, etc. Can't make up my mind!

@@niravsurati2905 if it helps, life solved that conondrum for me: I test rode the new gen 3 Hayabusa and found it to be an amazingly comfortable and capable sports tourer. I will buy that one instead of the GT or the BMW. I wish you the best of luck for choosing, can't really go wrong here.

Great review, but 9:13, budget? I don't consider a 16.000+ euro motorcycle (17500 euro with the touring kit you guys seem to have tested) budget in any way shape or form, I'd call that 'mid range'. For example, a CB500F is very much a more 'budget' bike at 7700 euro. I'd call anything over 20k euro 'luxury' kinds of motorcycles. Personally I am in the market for either the 1000sx or this one, so I am very much looking forward to the comparison.

From the seat where I sit, the only downers I have so far is the ugly-ish face with single-beam-lit (seriously, when are we going to end this winky headlight thing forever?). Otherwise I think Suzuki has a real winner on their hands here. What experience I've had with this K5 engine, it really is one of the best flat-plane inline-4 out there, long-stroke, makes a great sound, has some character, is very torquey, is fuel efficient (for 150 hp). Glad they kept the weight just below 500 lb.

On a sport touring bike of this caliber, Suzuki should be providing a complete package in light of the competition. Skimping on items such as a center stand, an adjustable windshield and an accessory top box……. C’mon Suzuki. The dudes this bike will appeal to certainly will have the additional coin to throw at the purchase price.
