I work at a Suzuki dealership and I uncrate these, assemble them, and then prep them for customer delivery when they sell. That includes a 5-mile test ride. These are never on the showroom floor long. Great bike for the money. The braking system does leave some to desire.

I came from the Ninja 1000sx and just bought the GT in red. I believe it's more of a rider's bike. Less riding aids and more you. Whilst I loved the Ninja, don't get me wrong, it just doesn't thrill me quite as well. And that candy red is so beautiful. No matter what, if you choose this or the ninja, you're getting a great bike. With little plus and minus against each other but ultimately the same end result. Happy and safe riding out there to everyone.

i would disagree. a center stand is not sporty. you're talking about the adv style of tourer, which some also call a sport tourer. i disagree with that as well. i think an adv that's intended only for short/mild off roading, like the versys 1000, should be classified as an adventure tourer, not a sport tourer, and there's where you'll find a center stand.

@@thinkdunson I tend to agree with you on bike classification. However, I have a 11' Triumph Sprint GT that matches this bike closer than any listed in the video. It is a true Sport Tourer and has a center stand as standard equipment. If you are on tour and don't have access to your paddock stand, a center stand is fantastic to have for maintenance (chain tension/lube - oil changes) and even ideal for parking. It doesn't hamper performance in any way! Honestly the fact that it doesn't have a center stand is the reason I wouldn't buy it.😉

I cannot find fault with any aspect of this bike ...even the cruise activation button on the right side, which so many test riders have complained about, is not an issue for me at all! Press the button before you ride off if it is so hard to reach while riding, and consider it a unique feature of the bike. Thanks for a great review, and even more, thanks to Suzuki for making a competitive alternative to another great sports tourer, the Kawasaki Ninja 1000SX.

Nicely done review. I have the predecessor of this model the GSX-S1000F and find it to be an excellent solo rider sport tourer. The motor is certainly the highlight of this bike.

A guy in our riding group has just bought one of these and it really has caught the attention of most of the guys and a couple are looking at them for their next bike. While a bit older and without some of the modern technology I think the Tiger 1050 is a similar competitor.

Detailed review. Shame for the center stand on a ST bike, otherwise no complaints. Seems that we can expect also other brands to go "more ST" in 2023. You mentioned the Tracer 9GT. I just rode one. Can check mate. p.s. Would like to try also this one. Anyways you got my like. Keep up.

One segment I would like to see on your awesome reviews, is a DIY friendly segment. Either photos or descriptions on how easy or hard core maintenance work for owner would be. For example a big 4. How easy to access air, oil filters, battery and drive system, chain or shaft. That can be a make or break no mater how good a bike is.

As usual a great Bike from Suzuki. I can’t imagine a better Bike for making serious fast miles in comfort. A perfect Bike here in the ROT where there are vast distances to be covered at speed. Get up to speed, set the cruise and turn on your choice of accompaniment in your helmet for the next 300 miles. Bravo Suzuki!

Love this bike. Still not convinced I'd take it over a current gen Ninja 1000 (especially since Kawi is about to release a new Ninja 1000 for the 2023 model year!) but the new Suzuki still catches my eye. Glad they jumped into the fray.

Excellent review, really thorough & a great value bike too. I also liked the Suzuki history & basic economics of the company as well. Most people are unaware of any of that & I think it's important to understand before you buy in to the brand. Suzuki are about bang for your buck & while they may not innovate much anymore, they produce great value, characterful & bulletproof bikes with a 3 year warranty. Simple.

This Suzuki is one of three bikes on my 'next bike list.' The other two are tiger 660 and Ninja 1000sx. Currently I ride a Ninja 400 '23. While saddling, both felt heavier than Suzuki. I'm 5'7", 31" ish inseam. When a heavier bike fills lighter than the weight, it inpires confidence..!! So for that reason alone, I am willing to forego the IMU on the Ninja and choose the Suzuki. Thanks Ian for helping me to decide on my next bike, the Suzuki GSXS1000GT+

yeah thats another thing that tells u this isnt any way shape or form a ST. right after u look at the smaller-than-a-sport-bike screen. its a gixxer squid missile sport bike for older filks who dont wont fold themselves up to ride a sport bike but still wanna haul ace. gixxer squid-mobile all the way. this wont do any serious highway riding noway. buzz u numb then painfully in less n 30mins/100miles at anything over 70. youd never last till the fuel light came on. and beat u to death with the wind. nah, stay away from touring on this. run to walgreens, here an there B roads only with stoplights., an do what this gixxer waaaahhh machine it is is meant for. light to light waaaahhhh. sure, with some bags/riding position so u wont get profiled by the cops. "oh old guy, saddlebags, sitting up straight... nahhhh, solid citizen"

I am not surprised this has high accolades. The motor is a Suzuki legend - a real gem. However the real genius is the chassis package. Its wonderful perfect combination of power, handling, nimbleness and balance is what the GSXS-1000 is and importantly.... at the right price!

Two items- 1) the dinky headlights. While LED projectors may shine forth at night, people, (and DEER) will not see one tiny pinprick coming at them, no matter how shiny. 2) How does this stand up to my OTHER possibility- the MT-10? No mention here.

I believe there's still a market for SPORT-touring bikes instead of just ADV bikes. Just like Ford and GM have kept the Mustang and Camaro while ditching all their other cars in favor of SUVs and pickups. Something that would be a deal breaker though is insurance premiums. I was going to get a Ninja 1000 but the insurance company priced it the same as the ZX-10R, meaning I'd have to pay more for insurance monthly than I currently pay annually for 4 bikes, one of which was a Triumph Sprint ST until recently. Hopefully the insurance companies won't see GSX and think GSX-R and price the insurance premiums like they've done with the Ninja 1000. Insurance premiums could be what's pushing people to the ADV category. Whenever I wanted to get the Ninja 1000, which I couldn't afford because of the insurance, I could have gotten the Versys 1000 (same motor!) without much of an increase to the insurance premiums I was already paying. So stupid!

I’ve been riding a 2018 Suzuki VStrom 650XT (full power version in Australia) for the past 5 years. Very happy with it but looking to get a second motorcycle with a quick shifter and more enthusiastic power for urban transport. VStrom is still my go to for touring and light off-road adventures and is so hard to beat. A test ride of a 2022 GSX1000 GT proved it to be a compelling machine in its own right. Notably, excellent quick shifter, strong linear power and predictable handling. TFT is very clear and includes ambient temperature. Lower seat height compared to the VStrom is a benefit around town. Downsides of the GSXer for me after a 45 minute test ride were that it’s vibey through the foot pegs across the rev range, there appeared to be noticeable radiation from the catalytic converter on the left calf, fan triggers quickly due to engine heat even in mild spring temperatures in low to mid 20s (centigrade), more forward sporty handle bar position likely to be fatiguing on hands and wrists after an hour or so, brakes are spongey and feel vague although they stop okay under normal braking. No centre stand option would be a long-term frustration. In summary, if it was less vibey and had a centre stand I’d buy one for urban use, but perhaps I’ve been spoilt after years on the VStrom!

IMHO a description of the subjective feeling of the handling is crucial for a review of this kind of bike. That's the hardest part to guess from a spec sheet. (The hardest part to find words for also, reckon.)

I like it. I could see having this along side my FJR. Maybe not replacing it. I don't think it would do as well for all day two up riding, and I didn't see a good place for mounting a top case. But for single riding it looks like a blast.

When I watch one of these review videos on the GSXS1000GT and know for a fact I am going to hear the word "mushy"... Ugh! Let me tell you, the breaks are fine, they work great, I have 5k miles on mine and they have stopped me every single time, besides, you are supposed to use both the front and the rear according to the manual.

Another very good review Ian. You went a bit more in depth than the general ride along videos, as I did not know that Suzuki was offering a phone app integration to the TFT. I am curious if you have a video already out comparing different helmets (another topic, I know) I live in a rather cool climate all year round, and am looking for a very good affordable helmet that I can use on long touring rides, that provide good wind protection from cooler weather. Just like bikes out there, you get what you pay for...KLR vs KT1600...get you there, but not all the same bells and whistles.

Thanks for the review, one important point you didn't mention is that the Kawasaki Ninja 1000SX has an IMU. That does bring a lot of extra safety features like lean sensitive ABS, traction control, ect.... That makes the Kawasaki a more interesting buy and I consider it a missed opportunity for the Suzuki which looks like an awesome bike.
