    I've ordered one, as I mostly ride on my own. So the pillion or top box wouldn't bother me. It was the gearbox, and engine that sold it for me. I like the looks, and with phone connectivity and cruise control, its just what I'm after.

    I agree fully with you. It is not a full fledged touring machine. Mostky occasional with a sporty focus. I had a gsxs1000 2018 and the naked was more thab capable of touring, you just needed a set of panniers. Awesome bike for long travel.

    Cheers Andy. I’m picking up mine in a week time and it can’t come soon enough. For me and my planned adventures it came down to this or the Kawasaki 1000SX. I test rode both, Kawasaki edging it in what you get for a £13k budget, but the Suzuki was just so much more fun. I loved every second of the GT. To me the SX felt lifeless in terms of how it made you feel. If you’re in the market, test ride them all and go with what you love rather than how they appear on paper!

    In Denmark, you can get the GT in two versions: The base version comes without panniers, without heated grips and with the low wind screen. The “Power” version comes with panniers, heated grips, the higher touring screen and an extended 5 year warranty. The upcharge is roughly £600… I don’t think they’ll sell a single Base GT!

    In Canada even the GT is near impossible to purchase. I’ve been told by my trusted dealership that, as of May, they are either pending sale or already sold. Love to try one to buy one though, but that’s not likely to happen.

    Great info Andy, on a bike that woukd appeal to me. Interesting at 3.29, regards rear grab handles, I personally find they work better at the back as you can brace yourself against acceleration /braking, better than side handles. When side grab handles became fashionable about 20 yrs ago, most reviewers bemoaned the switch from rear postion.

    Eyeing one up in the showroom today: it is so striking in that shade of blue and the styling is really growing on me - looks very futuristic. When I one day make the jump from my middleweight naked to a sports-tourer, I will certainly consider this.

    Of course your points are valid, if you are looking at this bike purely as a touring bike and that being the only market Suzuki aimed this bike at. Suzuki call this a Sports/Tourer, which the engine/handling and slick quick shifter/blipper totally justified the use of " Sports " in the title. And for those of us that can no longer enjoy a day's playing out on a 1000cc out and out sports bike, because we require a little more comfort, but still wants a bike that can light us up, with the occasional short trip away. Then this bike covers that need...Bang on.

    It does seem crazy that things like heated grips, too box, center stand aren’t offered on this? I guess Suzuki would say that not offering them keeps the price down, but what’s the point if the competition do va similar price? The Kawasaki just seems like a no-brainer in most comparisons. Just my opinion but I like the looks. Nice review. 👍

    Enjoyed the summing up of this bike. I think they should have committed to a decently comfortable single seat tourer, replaced that daft pillion with a proper touring trunk and gone wholeheartedly for the one man market!! Centre stand and heated grips a must nowadays, and two headlights in day mode or none and rely on the eyebrows!!

  • @allanmoger1838
    @allanmoger18382 жыл бұрын

    The one headlight thing has roots in safety and I’m mostly sold - two lights are easy to confuse with a distant car as opposed to a closer bike. I had a Ducati 848 that worked the same, you learned who were busy bodies pretty quickly. 😜

  • @kkiwi54
    @kkiwi542 жыл бұрын

    To me the comfort of a touring motorcycle isn't just about the seat and handlebars, it's also about the closeness of the footpegs and the angle of the lower leg. I have an adventure bike with a 90° knee angle and mainly because of that it's so much more comfortable than my old sports tourer (for me ;)

  • @allwheeldrive
    @allwheeldrive2 жыл бұрын

    Great update, thanks! This is one intriguing rig. For the price, no heated grips is expected, but at least they're an option. And, yes, there is an optional touring screen from Suzuki. Rather than just a look at the pillion seat providing the word on it, how about a real pillion ride? It looks, too, like a center stand is a tradeoff for the neatly tucked-in cans, which I can live with. Those subjective things are, well, subjective indeed. About the one headlight on, that's on many bikes now, and ... who cares! I think it looks great, overall, though it would've been easy to make that beak a bit more attractive (but most of use don't ride these things whilst sitting on the front wheel...). I'd also say against the 9GT you MUST factor in the performance differences. I'd take the tradeoff in features, as the 1000GT is, no doubt, much quicker everywhere, and from what I can glean, handles better. But I've heard a few times already it's a bit short-geared; nothing a 1-2 fewer sprocket won't fix (and better front brake pads). There's so much to like, here: performance, looks, reliability, comfort, value, plenty of electronics that actually provide some utility (like the outstanding screen/interface and quick shifter). This fall - when supply chain issues settle down, hopefully - I'll be looking at this, the NT1100, the 9GT, and the SX. I think it'll be a matter, more than anything, of whether I physically fit best on one of them. Not EXACTLY apples-to-apples, but each has it's own major attractions, and surely won't disappoint. BTW, I've axed the gorgeous Guzzi V100 from the list because after all this time they still can't get it together enough to give us pricing and a potential delivery time. I'd wager the bike itself may not even be fully cooked by then, and nobody should be a test case for any manufacturer.

    I agree with you, this review feels very rushed and the negative are irrelevant really. I myself have currently a VFR800X Crossrunner, and if I had to change now I'd take either the Suzuki or the Z1000SX. I have tested the NT1100 but my Crossrunner is way funnier than that one.

    The GT has a better rider triangle for taller riders than the SX. Both OEM screens, like most OEM screens, don’t work well for taller riders. The GT has a much better QS, and better engine and throttle response than the SX. Both bikes offer optional heated grips. The SX’s brakes and tires are better but the GT will turn in quicker lap times. Looks are a matter of choice. The GT is well screwed together. The Kawi is more refined. The SX’s panniers are better made than the GT, that includes the mounting system, but the GT’s panniers are easier to load and have more usable space. Can’t get an OEM top box for the GT. Both bikes offer a lot capability and value for the money

    I have a deposit on one in the US. I have other bikes I can use for the rare circumstance when I am riding with a pillion. I like the looks, myself. Center stands often get in the way of my heels when riding -- I had to take the one off of my Multistrada. I also think a hard top box would ruin the look of the bike. I can go with a low profile soft top case and be happy. Getting heated grips as an OEM accessory doesn't bother me. Same with a taller touring screen (or as part of a touring package) I like that the bike is at the sport bike end of the touring bike spectrum, including that the seat is low and looks like it is fairly easy to get on and off of. I'm viewing it as a gentleman's GSXR 1000. I have also read about an anti-stall feature on this bike. Is it an auto-clutch that means you don't need to use the clutch at low speeds? Did your test bike have it?

Got delivery on the 5 th april, have now done 3700 miles I have been riding for 50 years and have owned dozens of motorcycles in that time some good some bad the most unreliable bikes i ever owned were bmw had two gs both gave me electrical problem and i think they are over rated But thats only my opinion Getting back to the suzuki I can safely say its the most enjoyable bike I have ever owned.It does have faults ie front brake takes a lot of pulling seat is sore after 120 miles no centre stand but god that engine it does not need a gearbox I love the looks but that is a personal thing the price its a lot of bike for the money I also get 180 out of a tank

    Great review as always Andy, and for those here not just to listen to your dulcet tones but actually considering the bike. .... then do check out the Ninja 1000SX. Has some of the same issues (eg no Centre Stand), it is heavier and down on HP, but is a far superior bike in almost every other aspect. If you're a Suzuki fan, then you'll buy this bike and you will be most happy with it. But in this budget for a bike more sports than touring, then the GSX already feels out of date!

    There are several (now) comparisons and it seems they top each other depending on the tester. For a more sporting ride, it's the GT. For a more relaxed experience, it's the SX. What's interesting, though, is the GT's ("old, outdated") engine seems to have leaped to the top of its class: great, linear power and noticeably smoother than the SX's. And the quick shifter - a major interface with the machine - is one of the best out there. Comes down to personal preference and physical fit. Neither would disappoint.

    I thought they did the one light thing nowadays very deliberately, as in very low light conditions car drivers were pulling out of side junctions on bikers coming down the main route & riding with both side-by-side lights on, with the car drivers not realising these *were* bikes, and thinking instead, because of perspective, that they were eg cars far enough away for that they'd get out of the side road cleanly before the 'other car' passed.

    They should not have called it GT - It is a comfy solo rider sports bike with wich you can also handle qiet longer distance comfortable. I own a black one and Iam happy. The engine is a beast and soooo smooth ❤ One con I did not find in any review yet, is the cruise control. When pushing minus it brakes way to hard / rough. So its just good for holding the speed ... I had so many bikes and every one had good and bad sides , there is no perfect one. THX for the review and ride save ✌

    How do you propose they make a centre stand standard when there is no room under the bike to mount one? I understand the desire and that people want Suzuki to do something new from the ground up. However, that particular thing will basically require a new bike from the ground up. Nevertheless, I would also like to see the OEMs come up with some means of getting a bike all of the way off the ground for wheel removal that can fit unobtrusively on the bike when not in use. Snap Jack's are interesting, but I think I'd like to see something like a bar that could be inserted somewhere as a lift point that standard jack or small pneumatic jack could lift from. If pneumatic, the same pump cld be used to put air in a patched tire (or just when low).

    I know it's been a while... Have you ridden the Yamaha MT-10? I need to make a choice between the GT and the MT. I DON'T need the side cases, (I have an FJR for that), and I won't have a pillion rider. I'm seriously considering the MT-10 (SP), as I have a small-but-sufficient bit of cash suddenly. I also own a modded 2000 Bandit 1200 which I have been across the US AND done trackdays with, but that bike is getting long-in-the-tooth. So, looking to compliment the FJR with a slightly sportier "over-night tourer". Any experience for comparison sake?

Also the name is a ridiculous mouthful, but at least they dont make names up like cars..the arcana, Kona, and sportage. Ridiculous. Suzuki tend to throw lots of bikes at us...its them testing customer responses, then they land gems like the gixxer 1000, the busa and the gigantic all rounder the bandit 6 and 12. Great video, very slick. Top man.

    I love the idea of this bike. A sport bike with handle bars is soooooo up my alley. I love the look of sport bikes but just don't get along with clip ons, even higher mounted ones. It's why I moved on to a supermoto, still fun but with more comfortable upright ergos. However there is one additional issue with this bike that I have that you didn't mention, and that's the rear preload. Why oh why is there no remote preload adjust on this machine? The Kawasaki has one and frankly imo any and all touring machines, however more to the sporty side of things they are slanted towards, should have a remote preload adjust. It is just unacceptable to me for this bike not to have it. I also despise the asymmetrical headlights too. If they can address at least the rear preload (and add a freakin' center stand, seriously), I'd keep it on my short list for the future.

Apparently it's for safety... so at night if you were over taking the on coming traffic won't think it's a car in the distance! With the lights being so close together it could appear that it would look like a car in the far distance..so the oncoming car wouldn't think to slow down.I know Yamaha and triumph Tigers run both this is just what the salesman said ,sort of makes sense until you think others run both...sorry about the novel 😊

    Firstly Andy I would just like to say that you are as professional as they come with no faffing about and boring bit's.. I always appreciate your reviews...Grovelling over😅... I've had the GT for about a month now my thought's.... Don't likes: Noisey fan kicks in very quickly when at a halt but I suppose that's the price you pay for euro 5 inline four with catalyst... Bit to much weight on my 67 year old wrists.. Seat is quite hard...Lights could be better imo not really that bright or good range at night..Tyres not very confidence inspiring in the wet. Brakes could be a touch sharper. Likes : Absolutely everything else engine, gearbox, quick shifter, wind protection from the elements, handling and smoothness.. You should be on TV with your own motorcycle review show... Cheers 👌 (Don't think this bike could have a centre stand because of that catalyst positioning 😢).. Thanks, Mario..

    Kawasaki’s execution of IMU is adequate at best. IMU is frivolous anyway. Heated grips are available as a Suzuki accessory. Pillion seat is adequate but certainly not ideal. What defective headlight? Good luck finding a 150hp machine with touring features for 13 grand.

    I’m definitely interested in this bike, personally I’m not a fan of centre stands, think they are often bulky, ugly looking things, add weight and I’ve never really found it that inconvenient to do your chain, especially when I’m touring with mates who can quickly,y lean it over on the side stand. Top box. Never. Ugly ugly ugly.. upset the balance of the bike. Suzuki always make a sweet handling bike and there’s a reason they’ve not added top box mount. Use a tail pack if you need extra storage and a large tank bag. Those panniers are big enough for a week-to 10 days away easily. Screen and grips are a disappointment and I’d love to see active suspension on there as well. Haven’t seen one on the flesh yet, but so far I like the looks

    I think Suzuki hasn't got up to speed on "sport touring" machines., for the same mentioned reasons. I've had 14 bmw s-rs flavors which were all S.T. leaning towards the Sport side. Not a RT guy.!! Never been a problem for a single guy, would be if I got married again though. The R9T's being a"retro" bike mimicking a /5 had to reset the tripometer when fueling. Having had one I enjoy "the basics" of doing this. Only an older gent that had the original would appreciate a lack of this feature. Sorry to disagree with you on the fuel gauge issue. My bicycle doesn't have a fuel gauge. When my body runs out of gas hopefully I'm close to home.LOL. Enjoying all your videos. 👍👍🏍🏍🏍🙋‍♂️

    Your comments are all correct, however you referee to it as a touring bike and that is the root of the problem! It is NOT a touring bike. It is just a more comfortable super-sport bike for commuting and daily use. You will never take this bike &and passenger and go around the country in relative comfort. Even though this bike is marketed as a “sport-touring “ it is 80%sport and max. 20% touring. I’ve owned the previous model GSXS1000F for 5 years. I sold it as it was really unpleasant to ride with a passenger on longer trips.
