As an old man from the States I grew up with USS and SAE threads. When the US decided to (sort of) go metric half of my tools (sort of) became obsolete and metric thread pitches became a source of mystery and confusion. I'll figure it out eventually, if I live long enough. Next lathe video.....back to the chuck key holder and over the shoulder throw with a mirror. Annie Oakley style. 😁❤👍👍

I was planning maybe a 'deflection toss'.. see if i can bounce the chuck key off a few trolls on the way to the bracket..kinda Chuck Norris style. lol! I grew up through school in the 70's too, so metric had only just come here too, school gave us Imperial (SAE) as well and i still favour it today... and it's never going away either, we still use Mile per hour, Miles per gallon, Pints of beer, and Feet per second..(as ill be using for hte chuck key 😁 !). Take care Rick and have a great week sir. D&Px

@@Moonfleet41 I watch some Canadian youtube channels and they seem even more confused than UK and US with this metric/imperial stuff. I like the idea of bouncing the chuck key off some trolls. Maybe use a pipe wrench instead. 😁

Pipe wrench?.. yeah good call, or maybe a nice 2lb Ball Peen hammer..(or should that be a 0.907185Kg hammer.) .lol!

Your friend should have gone with the TEC shocks of the stock length. Because the lowering shocks 'Shorten" suspension travel. That 1" reduction in length to lower comes right out of suspension travel. He's a tall guy he can use that extra. Just adding the extension gives him height back but not the suspension travel. Fun to make the extension doo-dad though.
Every time I see your videos working on your lathe, the more I would like to have one. As Allen Millyard says: I'm/you're/whomever watching this video "... very pleased with the result"

Sounds like it's time to buy one then i recon..lol!
I dig the twist on the chuck key return! LOL! Regarding repurposing of off-cuts and other scraps, I have a box of such things that I've been keeping around for a couple of decades that has pulled my fat from the fire (so to speak) many times over. I've lost count of the number of times I've needed a piece of material for a project at an inconvenient hour and found just what I needed in my scrap box. 👍

Yup, me too, and i bet, like me, you also have a couple of boxes of random old bolts, nuts, screws and flotsom that constantly yield little rescues over and over year after year..lol!

A little tip i was taught during my fitting and turning apprenticeship.Next time you make something on the lathe, machine the first inch to nearly its finished size and go from there. Its quicker and your less likely to make a mistake.Just a friendly helpful hint.@@Moonfleet41
I have recently made myself a couple of these 45mm long as a neccesity on my rear disc converted old Kawasaki. I bought shorter shocks than required then extanded them so i had reduced dia to clear the caliper. It's much simpler to screw cut the threads than die them, and a much better job!
Nice one Del 👍 Love the lathe videos, somewhat mesmerising 😁👍 Helluva 'chuck' with the chuck key 👍 Keep up the brilliant work Del 'n' Pen 👍

Ha ha.. it is a bit alien if you normally use a regular drill..
sweeeeet! I could do with a lathe, for the first time..... in ages lol I'm swapping out Giselles handlebars for something similar to the ones youve popped on a couple of your bikes. But my bar end weights dont fit, and theres no thread inside the handle bars. SO.... it may be use the drill post to drill thru a bar end, and use your "patented" expanding stud wall plug lol I've also just done another stint, making garage shelves out of some old kitchen cupboard doors. Ripped them with a big blade in the jigsaw.. and onto the shelf brackets. My garage is slowly getting almost as organised as yours.... about 69% lmao

3:20 - 'Meadowlark Del Boy' carefully lines up for the Dorset Globetrotter's opening shot, as Dame Penny Spielberg whistles 'Sweet Georgia Brown' in 13/9 time to avoid copyright. (I'd have made these different lengths, told him it was 'progressive' & that the strange weaving sensation, at all speeds, will just add to the overall charm of the ride. Have a great week : )xx

LMAO! I call BS on the layup there pal! We demand a single camera shot, no cuts, from the 3-point line to the net! On a serious note, great advice on off-cuts. I have so much wood lying around from building guitars, that and spare parts are taking up SO much space. But... you never know when you will find a purpose for it.

@@Moonfleet41I still go back to your early Bandit videos for help with mine... lol. Top lathe work, reminds me of being at school in the 80's.
I see extenders/risers they sell on ALX that seem like it wont work for my 400cc scooter. not hefty as this is and thin aluminum . im guessing the force at the bottom bolted connection isnt tons of force pressing down since the shock itself absorbs most of the force down or at least lowers it substatially?
Always a joy to see your lathe work and results😍👌✌👍
