I must say out of all the musicians from the 80's Duff McKagan is my favorite. He's never forgotten where he came from, he never believed his own hype. He has always been humble even when at the top of the game. His book helped me overcome my addictions although I became a runner, (a walker at first sometimes walking for hours and hours just so I could sleep). Duff McKagan is definitely an inspiring human being. I can't say that it's been easy I've been clean for a little over a year, and I still struggle a lot, but instead of getting high or drunk "I run". But if I ever get the chance I would like to thank Mr. McKagan for the inspiration,......

Hey I've been clean a little over 2 years and it gets easier. The cravings will get weaker. When I do get a craving I remind myself where using will get me, the same position and place every time

I've been a Duff fan from the first exposure from GnR's explosion onto the world's stage via MTV !! Having just finishing "It's so easy and other lies" a look back on his journey from childhood memories to recent, seeking to fulfill his dreams of being a life long professional musician helping guide the wave of a new sound the rock-n-roll world would be hearing. Seeing him in this video with his wife, the way he looks at her you can see in his eyes he's found the love and happiness that only few find in this world. In one of the early chapters Duff tells of a time in his life where he was running on empty. Recalling his story of waking up in tremendous pain, unable to get to the phone beside the bed. To finding out his panccrease had burst spilling the toxic digestive enzymes onto his outer organs and muscle tissues burning and devouring everything it contacted. His future suddenly looked bleak. At one point actually told one of the attending doctors "just kill me..." to miraculously being told things are looking better, you've been given a second chance. I think it's easy to see he's taken full advantage of that second chance and is not looking back. I'm glad I had the time to listen to his story. A true inspiration and all around cool guy !! ✌

I guess any member of GnR gets heavy scrutiny. None of the members of GnR could solo what they could do as a band. Together they truly left us a legacy. I won't take that away from them.

Especially when it comes to music history and what it means to have a voice in such a voiceless age. Maybe there is still something to be said in this era. If the media would shut up for a second with their noise and maybe listen to someone who is writing and making music with just the intention to release emotion rather than an album for a record label then maybe we'll get music again. But the greedy will greed.
