Well said. Jimi had an incredible voice and it was as strong the day he passed away as it was when he was in his teens. He was an amazing man, father, husband, grandfather, step father, musician, humanitarian and friend. I will miss his friendship, laugh and of course his music. He will always be in my heart.

Small paenus = more refined ears. Where you lack in one aspect, your body heightens skills in other areas.

Jimi has to be among the most underrated frontmen in rock. He had it all - singing ability and the looks and charisma of a rock star.

I keep seeing that posted, we're you people even alive when this band stayed parked on the top of the charts for months and months, what the he'll do u people mean underrated? Eye of the Tiger was number one for 6 weeks, they were of course featured in the Rocky soundtracks as well as others, they sold out every show and big arenas for at least 20 years during the 80s and 90s. I cannot state regarding success in the USA, I am from the UK and other than Eye Of The Tiger over here Survivor are generally considered to be "one hit wonders". Maybe 2 hits at most because I don't know how well Burning Heart did over here

I don’t know if I’ve ever teared up watching a song performance that wasn’t meant to be sad, but my gosh, seeing the passion in Jimi when he hit the high note on the first chorus, the sweat, the face, the voice, everything. AND it’s harder for him to sing high being a baritone, and he rarely ever missed a note. He really was incredible.

But, in the studio when he’s had time to prepare and all and only needs to sing for a few minutes, he’s very good, and one of my favourite singers to listen to. This song is so badass, it always makes you feel like you could tear the whole world down

Jimi was such an amazing singer that most people don't even realize that he isn't the original singer of this song. A very hard song to sing, with a lot of high notes, and still Jimmy managed to sing it as if he wrote it and sang it on the record.

I had the honor of working security for Survivor back in the mid 90's. I never had the chance to actually get to know Jimi, but, he was very professional and courteous to everyone around him. Such a great gift he had and I'm thankful he opted to share it with the world! Rest in peace............

Bob Wolenski Jimi was touring as Survivor with musician friends he hand picked from about '93 on, and Jim Peterik, Frankie, and Dave Bickler also toured as Survivor at the same time. There was a lawsuit over the rights to the name, and Jimi won the rights in court!! Way to go Jimi!! ❤️Then in '99 Frankie sued again and another judge gave him the copyright. So Frankie immediately asked Jimi back to the band and fired Dave yet again in '2000, and Jimi stayed with the band until he left again after the Reach album. He came back in late 2011, and stayed until his heartbreaking passing in 2014. RIP beautiful, sweet Jimi!! 💔

@@CleoPenelope111 Thank you, I know their history. One time I gathered up a group of friends from college back in 1994 to go see Survivor at the Palos Hills Il friendship fest. Some of those friends had been with me the prior summer and saw Jimi Jamison's Survivor in Naperville and we all thought they were great. So, thinking this would be the same band, we invited a larger group in 1994. They all came to my parents' house and to psyche ourselves up we watched Survivor videos. Then we get to the concert and what a letdown! Yes, it was the "real" Survivor but Dave Bickler just didn't have Jimi's charisma and couldn't perform many Jimi's era Survivor songs very well. One of my friends started yelling "we want Jimi!". This went on for a bit and I happened to glance behind me and a man was getting up to leave with his kid. I looked at the man and my jaw fell open. It was Jimi Jamison, who gave me a grin and walked away.

idk if anyone notice the great snare sound and perfomance of drummer in this concert, always gives me chills when i hear that fill on 4:35, anyway, every instrument and voices its on spot, in my opinion 1985 was peak of this band, great concert. RIP Jimi, my favourite singer.

Just saw Jamison attempt this song in 1982, when he first replaced Bickle, and the high notes were a travesty. He's got a great voice and he// really trained it into that range to do this song cleanly and powerfully 3 years later. Excellent work - credit where it's due!

This is a real band. A band that worth listening and also a masterpiece song.

This is actually a really tough song to sing. Dave Bickler's original rendition was a classic, but Jimi is one of the few who could get close to singing it well, without murdering it + Jimi had that stage presence few can match. (Nobody in Survivor before or after came close)

Jimi being a baritone, he still comes in and actually tops the original - Which was written for a tenor voice! That is raw talent 🙏

@@laurastuhler4791 Lol to yourself 👌 Jimi was a baritone. That's why he often had to use falsetto - Especially when singing some of the Dave Bickler era songs. Jimi had that very wide and thick sound because of his baritone voice, having more surface area on his vocal folds. That meant he had to work harder to reach the high notes that came more naturally to Bickler. The same pitch still sounded "darker" for Jimi, which is another baritone trait. People often compare Jimi to Steve Perry, the most famous tenor. You can clearly hear the difference though, in that Perry was more natural in the upper register, making jumps up and down the octaves. Jimi prefered to keep it a step lower, to properly take advantage of his wider vocal folds. Listen to "The Search Is Over" and you'll hear it. Baritone through and through

Ritchie Blackmore (Deep Purple/Rainbow): "I had seen Jimi in Survivor and was very impressed. I remember going down to Tennessee to meet him and I really liked him as a person. He then came up to try out with Deep Purple. We did one song, I think it was 'Going Down' and he was so good I immediately stopped playing and just said, 'You're in!' He said, 'Don't you want to do more songs?' I said, 'No, you are so damn good, I know that you are perfect for the job.' We went out and celebrated at a restaurant. I was full of ideas due to his melodic, soulful voice, and he could improvise much better than a lot of singers I knew so he had every aspect I was looking for in a singer. Very, very nice guy. Very humble. Unfortunately, two weeks later, we were told he couldn't join the band. We never found out why. I think it had something to do with the management. I was surprised and saddened by what happened, and it was a mystery to me what had gone down. It was a bad moment for me. I rated him as one of the top singers in the country."

I grew up in Memphis where Jimi Jamison is from I have been watching Jimi sing in bands since 1971 he was always awesome and I got to know him he was a really nice guy the fame never went to his head.

No, Dave Bickler was Survivor's singer when this song was recorded for the album and movie. But Jimi soon replaced him and did an amazing job as is apparent.

But to the very end, Jimi could hit the high notes that Bickler couldn't do anymore. Bickler now has to sing the song several octaves lower. I can't imagine how you though Jimi couldn't hit the highs as good as Bickler when he did it all along.

So sad that he had to go so soon. He or the band got the recognition they deserved. I love everything he sings and with Frankie on the guitar, Wow, all of the band created this perfection. I'll never stop listening to Survivor!!

All I will say is thank God you can't wear CD's out. I bought the Ultimate Survivor cd about a week ago and it has already been played right through 76 minutes at least 10 times. It is an absolute belter and musically the best 3.99 ever spent

Jamie Jameson was quite a bit more than just a vocalist

A true and timeless classic, it was the soundtrack to so many people's lifes. Rip Jami Jamison.

Masterpiece track written by Jim Peterik (formerly w/ Ides of March) who also wrote the 1970 Top-40 hit single, Vehicle.

I just love to hear this song in jimi voice!
