The first season was likely a non-union season. I don’t know that for sure. Just an educated guess. If that’s the case, as soon as it was picked up by a network for season 2 it would have had to become a union production. I suspect that’s why the crew isn’t still in tents. If production could get away with putting crew in tents they’d still be in tents. Guaranteed.

Okay. Listened all the way through then at your request, subscribed. Here is how I see survivor; Richard Hatch single handedly created the strategy that has been used by every season of players since season one. He will always be the number one in my book. The creator of the “alliance”. Enough said.

Richard is holding on to hope that he can play again one day. He has to realize that these Jeff Probst “bashings”, as true as they may be, aren’t helping his case to return to the show. Why? Because Jeff Probst is the one who ultimately determines who is going to appear on the seasons. Why would Jeff reward someone like Richard a chance to play again knowing that Richard has bashed him countless of times? And if Probst’s ego is as big as you say it is, he’s definitely not going to take the high ground and grant you another chance to play.

Bottom line. I've been watching it since Season 1. And of course there have been some Seasons I like more than others, but in general I always enjoy it because of the reason it started in the first place. Taking random people and dropping them in an uninhabited location with very few supplies, that then compete in challenges to try and last 39 days to then be voted a million dollar prize by a jury that were also participants in the game.. I keep it simple. I don't get caught up in the politics of it or judge the people that participate because it's just a TV show and I appreciate the entertainment value of it. Anyone who signs up for it or works on the crew go through a lot to provide fans with this glimpse into such a unique and dramatic social experiment. It's my favorite show.

Everyone seems to be blaming Probst for how season 39 was handled. The fact is, we don't know all that actually happened. The key event was that a crew member was somehow harassed while the contestants were getting in a boat after a challenge. Does anyone know exactly what happened there? Unless you do, you cannot say things were handled wrong. Keep in mind, Dan was already given a warning. Maybe by habit, he made a comment to a lady as they hopped into the boat, or maybe it was something worse? Who knows. But the fact is, he was already warned and should have known better. Probst likely had no choice but to let him go after that. Also, Hatch remained a contestant until the last minute, which means Probst was likely fine with him until heat from the higher ups pressured him to make changes.

Just because Probst decided at the last minute not to select you for season 40 doesn't mean he ignores players perspectives of the game. I think he actually enjoys hearing them, especially if they are unusual. I also think he appreciates your contribution to Survivor. He simply did not feel you were appropriate for season 40 given the controversy you would have created after what happened in season 39 and your last season. I mean after all, you allowed that inappropriate touch to happen. Whether it was intentional or not, in today's world, one does not even allow the chance of that to happen. Can't blame it on the producers. It was your choice to run the challenge naked, knowing that could happen. Such a choice in that situation or in similar situations is just totally unacceptable nowadays, as made apparent in season 39. So thus you weren't selected. Simple as that. No reason to bash anyone over it. Just learn from it. Apologize, instead of acting like it wasn't your fault and maybe in the future, you might have another chance.

Michael John Wow, John, why not learn what happened before advising someone who was there? There was no “touch.” The incident was entirely of Sue’s making, and Probst is well aware of that. My perspective of Probst has formed over 20 years, and it is not informed by the edited footage you’ve seen.

@@RichHatch I'm surprised she would quit over a made-up story. But if that's true, she probably thought at the time it happened, then realized later for whatever reason, it never happened. Seems weird to me. But regardless, you have to realize it was poor judgement to run such a challenge naked in today's environment. Back then? Maybe you have a point it might have been encouraged, at your ultimate expense unfortunately.

idk man. probst has handled some really touchy and controversial subjects with grace. and he's always asking about everyone's experience along the way. obv you have a much closer look, but i don't see the condescension and think the show has only gotten better with time

I think season 2 was the best. It seemed like the early seasons of survivor were way more brutal. I'm currently binging all the seasons and I'm on Africa right now season 3. Did y'all hear about Michael supkin from season 2 that got burnt? I looked him up on Wikipedia to see what happened to him after those days and turns out he went to jail for embezzlement and possession of child pornography.
