A few lifetimes ago, my husband and I got a job cleaning out the storm sewers in a newly constructed subdivision. The village wanted about a thousand pounds of wet construction clay removed from the storm sewers before they would annex the subdivision. All my husband and I had to work with was a one gallon bucket tied to a rope. Early one morning, when the construction crews were pulling onto the job, my husband and I came crawling up out of the storm drain. We looked like the mud monster from the movie "The World Beyond". After we explained what we were doing in the sewer, someone yelled, "Call Mike Rowe!" 😂

When my now husband and I had just started dating, we were driving to a restaurant, both dressed nice. (He was hot. Lol) It was raining hard. I saw something in a ditch and told him. He slowed down. A cow was stuck in mud in a ditch. We both got out without saying a word. He got his rope out of the truck, I got the shovel out of his toolbox. We worked together and got this cow out. He was pulling her, I was pushing. Right when we heard the sound of the mud releasing her, she pooped all over me as she came up. It was not pleasant. My boyfriend checked out the cow and made sure she wasn't hurt. Checked on me. I told him I would be alright but I need a shower, fast. He called the owner of the cow who came to get her. My boyfriend helped fix the fence as I stood in the rain and got as much ick off of me as possible. My boyfriend had coveralls in his toolbox and gave them to me. I changed in his truck. He got back in the truck and said, "Well, that was a shitty start to our date. We're Mike?" I didn't know what he meant. He took me back to his house and told his mother I needed clothes and he wanted to show me Dirty Jobs. I wore his mother's sweats and we watched Dirty Jobs with his parents while my icky clothes were washed by his mom (I told her I could wash them she told me no. Lol) My husband tells me that was the night he told his dad that I was the one. 🤣 (I remember that he told his dad to skip an episode. Found out later it was the horse insemination one. Lol)

@@keekers That's a great first date story, and the fact that ya'll wound up getting married, and are still together makes it all the better ! On another note, fortunately for you, cow manure is mostly composed of what amounts to half digested grass, it's not quite as bad as others animal poo. It's still pretty gross though, it wouldn't be as humorous though had it been from something other than a ruminant animal !

@@keekers Oh my goodness!!!! 🤣 Thank you for that awesome story!!!! It sounds like mine and my husband's (then boyfriend) first date!! It was a prom date, so we were dressed to the nine's too. Except, ours wasn't a cow, it was his car. He pushed with mud flying everywhere while I gave it gas. He had on a rented tuxedo and didn't want it to get ruined, so he took everything off except the bowtie. I wasn't allowed to turn around, but I peeked. 😂 He was hot too!!! When I got home with my prom dress and bare feet covered in mud, he started calling me his muddy-toed girl.

Most people don’t agree with me, but in every role I have seen Meryl Streep , all I see is Meryl Streep playing X, same with many actors. What I think I should see is the character, and not notice the actor. And I really think the entire entertainment complex was far more enjoyable when I had no idea the actors had a life outside of film. I don’t want to know their political opinions. Basically be an actor, go to work do your job, go home.

Same here. Decades ago, in the last couple of days before Christmas, my wife and I were sitting on the couch at like two in the morning, laughing our butts off as a smart-ass commented on the children's toys he was selling during his graveyard shift on QVC. I particularly recall a Weebles-like miniature playground set with a tiny merry-go-round the host dryly referred to as the "revolving pod of death." Who would've guessed back then that this man who would be fired from QVC multiple times would become a true national treasure.

the opinion of a stranger sometimes means more that people realize. i work in logistics, since 1993. at my current job (since 2001) i make a point of expressing positive feedback to those who deserve and earn it during the course of my day. over the years, i have been asked "really, are you serious? i'm doing a great job?. i don't know you". but that's the point - if someone you do not directly work with (in the same department) compliments you on your focus and execution of your job it's a good, honest thing. i don't NEED to tell you what your job quality is, but yes, i am a stranger. i have no reason to jerk you around. people get it, if they ask me why and i explain why. my positive feedback may decide if that person comes back to work tomorrow, and i think that is all the more reason to say "good job". we need to hear we are on the right track, that our toil is not in vain. great show, mike.

Man, I enjoyed this! You guys really feed off each other in the most entertaining way. As far as not watching certain actors because of something in their personal life, I vowed to never watch anything with Jane Fonda once I found out about her disloyalty during Viet Nam; the other person I won't watch is Will Smith because of the Oscar slap. I used to say I would watch anything he was in, but not any more. Most of the time, I don't care about the personal lives of actors, but in these two cases, I just can't let it go.

Mike, what is different about you and what you publish is that you describe the humanness to life. I was a projectionist and ran "Cocktail." It wasn't that bad. 1988 actually was a very good year for films, so by comparison "Cocktail" may look a bit thin, but how about the buzzkill flick that Michael Keaton did that year, "Clean and Sober?" There were worse movies than "CT." I can think of movies that even won BEST Picture in other years that are not as entertaining as "Cocktail," like "Ordinary People," or "Kramer vs Kramer."

There are things far more important than money and accolades for what we do or who we are. Finding peace of mind has been my most worthwhile accomplishment but even that is fleeting, in most trying times. I am and have been an asshole to both friends and loved ones but have mellowed somewhat over the last 30 years. To answer what drives us to desire strangers to like us, I can sum it up simply being that we want universal unconditional love. The irony is that we are loved unconditionally but, asking for every human being to give us such gift, just isn't possible to fulfill... ...because human beings are involved. The peace of mind comes with the responsibility to remember that we are so loved. Awesome show, by the way, thanks for putting yourself out here for target practice.
Really great discussion.

Dig your content 100%.... thanks guys
Boris Sagal, director, "World War III", 1982, died in a real life, er, death, helicopter tail rotor encounter in May, 1981, in the Mt. Hood Timberline Lodge (The Shining) parking lot, setting down after a day of flying, shooting mountain scenery. Boris, who'd earlier exited the right side of the helicopter, moving straight toward his destination, now exited the left side, hooking left around the rear of the helicopter, apparently unaware of the danger posed by the tail rotor. Amazingly (good or bad), he was not killed instantly. No wonder they're called choppers!

It was a non-issue till more recent years. It would really be helpful if actors would keep their in your face opinions to themselves. This is especially important for actors who are always ‘themselves’ even when acting, as opposed to to actors who so become the character that you don’t notice who is playing the part.
