Like most people, you’ve probably heard of Mike Rowe because of his willingness to do over 300 strange, disgusting and unique jobs like - sewer inspector - cow inseminator and shark suit tester as the creator and host of Discovery Channel’s popular show “Dirty Jobs”.
But when Jason and Peter heard about his unusual start in the entertainment business, they invited him to discuss that…AND…the secret sauce that made Dirty Jobs a phenomenon. His podcast, “The Way I Heard It”, which has been downloaded nearly 300 million times. His new movie, “Something to Stand For” in theaters June 27th and available HERE. And his dirty joke... on Sesame Street! Really, no Really!!!
IN THIS EPISODE:
Joan Rivers impact on Mike Rowe, Howie Mandel and many others.
Hear Mike’s mother’s criticism led to his creation of Dirty Jobs.
Why Mike demanded no “second takes” on any of his shows.
The dirty joke on Sesame Street that polarized the audience.
How Mike’s became a professional opera singer.
Deadliest Catch taught him hammer fighting, yes, hammer fighting!
The lost promos that Mike Rowe voiced for the Spice Channel.
How many ways can someone say… Mazda?

Man, i know Mike Rowes voice, ive listened to it for years. But wow he has a golden voice. One of those iconic voices like Attenborough or Freeman.
The dirty jobs show is brilliant. I’ve done a few really crappy jobs when I was younger. Now I’m so glad I did them because it built character in me.

.. or even just Mike alone without the other two~
Rowe has that golden voice - of course he would be hosting shows more than acting 😀
Mike Rowe is such an amazing guy
The Cat Sack was my favorite Mike QVC product lol!
Wow, what a great interview, thank you!!
Mike also used to do a real estate program, talking about homes for sale in Maryland, which is where he lived at the time. That's where I remember him from originally. He's so great. We Marylanders love our Mike Rowe.
Peter talking about his dog to Mike really helped me at the time, I'd just lost my best friend and understood exactly what he was saying. Thanks again Pete 🍻
I remember Paul Harvey...the best story teller on the radio..."and now...the rest of the story."

The original "tell me you're talking about someone we all know without telling me we all know them~"
Excellent show..
That's the year they lost that star! 😂 Good one, Peter!! I enjoyed this podcast .
I watch the podcast and I remember Paul Harvey ! Loved listening to him, and Mike Rowe and Really No Really !
Such a great interview!
I saw the movie on opening day. It was fabulous! Please do a sequel ❤🇺🇸
Singing in the opera in Baltimore?! Mike Rowe is a Renaissance man for sure!
I si agree with Jason Alexander Mike Rowe always gave the impression to Me that He truly respected each person He came into contact with He was never condescending and always funny at just the right moments which is why it was so great and successful
I keep forgetting that Mike is from Ballmer, because I don't think I've ever heard him say "hon." I've really liked everything I've seen and heard him on.
I remember Paul Harvey and the rest of the story, Jason.
Oh, hell yes!
See Mike's Ted talk from a number of years ago...Classic story telling
Dang it Peter tell the time you saw Elvis in Vegas
Really ? Paul Harvey is a Legend and Was There Long Before You Guys - Even Thought this Podcast Up... Thanks...

Is this some kind of contest or did you just take their comment a bit too seriously?

Nobody was comparing themselves to Paul Harvey.
The only storyteller that I listen to today that is having great success with the Paul Harvey model of storytelling albite with strange dark and mysterious stories non fiction, is Mrballen. Because of his success, he is taking under his wing other storytellers under one umbrella studio MrBallen Studios
had an audition for HSN, 4 minutes of adlib talking about whatever i wanted, 6 figures a year. i didn't get it :(
Seems like selling things in tv was his dirtiest job of all
I watched Evening Magazine and would hear Paul Harvey on occasion. Geez I must be old now.
Of course I remember paul Harvey. Good day
I remember Paul Harvey!
Jason-Just noticed you are on the "thumbnail" for lack of a better word on Netflix for the series MONK. But you were only in one episode, correct? Love to hear you talk about your time (albeit probably brief) of working with Tony Shalhoub. Anyway, Mike Rowe is a bad Mother Lover! and could and should run for political office-Preferably as governor of California first...P.S. You need a wide angle lens or a bigger studio...If Mike is in there with you, we should see you all together ala the Irish Flamingo, Conan...
First time I have seen this podcast, I cam here after watching Larry King interview Jason Alexander. Is the focus on show business tales or more interviews with individuals of interest?
This is Clem Fandango...can you hear me in there??
No one remembers paul? 😔 all his stuff is on the net and some on KZread 😊 look him up, he had some interesting stores 🤔
You guys just cut off Mike Rowe from proclaiming the ULTIMATE Paul Harvey line... BOOOOOO!
Who's woods are theas i think i know.. 😅 now it can never be normal again.. thanks
I REMEMBER PAUL HARVEY!!! ... And now you know the rest of The Story. 🤨
Could we mention the fact that it’s Howie Mandel’s studio a few more times?
I've always thought Mike Rowe was so handsome but the political stuff makes him hard to love.
I've always loved Rowe, but the political stuff over the past couple years is tough to wade through. Does he lay it on thick on this episode? If so, I'll need to pass.

I was concerned before stepping into this episode as I, too, had been bothered in recent years about Mike Rowe's positions on several things (had been a fan of his for many years through "Dirty Jobs"). And so I've listened to this podcast and can say that he thankfully didn't touch on subjects I'd otherwise have been taken a position opposite his upon.

You mean because he was one of the very few to point out lies?! He hardly rambles on about it all the time. Just watch it for yourself 😮
