First time I hot tented it was in Bridgeport CA during cold weather training U.S.M.C...believe me when I say the tent was a luxury..it got down to -32° when we had to dig in and create our personal sleeping spaces.. Our tent fit 15 or half the platoon. Our stove was heated by a Jerry can of diesel with a drip tube hung upside down...the sled carried it all plus ammo and rations...two Marines pulling in snow shoes and rifles one more in the back on down hill decent as a brakeman and steering man.. This looks to be way more enjoyable and I'm going for it next winter..Thank you for your video

This is such a great way to pass the winter. Out in the woods with a roasty toasty stove. I usually go out for a winter camp once a year with the Army, but the work schedule kept me away this year. Another great video Josh! Which tent fabric do you feel works best for cool/cold weather camping? I know weight is a factor when hiking...
@JoshuaGammon
Жыл бұрын
There's pros and cons. The fabric lets the moisture out but it heavier and takes more room in your kit. The opposite is said for the lighter materials. If you are going to pick one, you have to decide based on the type of camping you are going to do. Both are great tents though.
I'm wondering why you wouldn't want to keep the fire going? If it's that cold, I would want to stay on top of that...... kinda strange to me 😮
@JoshuaGammon
Жыл бұрын
I could have. It's a balance between staying away most of the night and cutting a lot more wood vs getting sleep and doing less work. This option only works if you have a good sleeping bag of course.
Your stove is large enough to accommodate most of your firewood, full round. If you split enough to make sure you can start several fires (just on general principles!), leave the rest intact. You will find that it burns much longer , and you can usually maintain a fire through the night, with only one refill. Also, if you lessen the amount of air the fire gets, the longer it will burn.🔥🔥🔥 Much better than waking up to a miserably cold tent, not to mention frozen eggs!!🥶🥚🥶 For the life of me, I can't figure out why so many people (you are by no means the only one!)go to so much trouble to set up camp, only to tear it down the very next morning! For heaven's sake, arrange to spend two nights, at least! Take a personal day, or trade shifts with someone. Do what ever you can to make your efforts more worthwhile. After all, you know that you'd rather spend more time in the woods than less! Be nice to yourself!! 🤗
@JoshuaGammon

Thanks for all the great tips Brook. Yes I could leave a few logs whole. The outside was frozen with some water so it's best to cut into the dry inner. yes it's a lot for one night but I have a full time and and family I like to spend time with so it's a balance of all the things I like and one night is all I have really.
