    I had a 2001 Nissan Primera sold here as the G20, but better because it had manual transmission. That car was solid, one of my favorites. Also, tons of people around the world relied on the old Nissan Sentras, have a similar following for Nissan Patrol, Nissan Micra, among others that are solid vehicles. Not all are perfect but some of the old versions of the models mentioned are still on the road today.

    I had a 2005 Pathfinder and it was legit like a truck. The old boxy style was why this used to be a great SUV. When they turned it into a minivan, it absolutely ruined the Pathfinder name. I am so glad to see it is coming back to SUV styling instead of a minivan.

    I think the R50 96 to 04 was the best generation other than arguably the wd21 but its too hard to find them in good condition. They were easily the most offroad capable its been a decline since then in offroad capability, 05 to 12 had the independent suspension and bad breakover and approach angles wich sucked cause it was body on frame and could have been way better with a solid axle. than the r52 wich everyone knows was a flop then this wich i agree is a cabin finder

    Yea... Even the XTerra was the last real off roader from Nissan. It was a real old school quirky off roader with proper 4WD and it also had a manual transmission too, and it mostly competed with Toyota's FJ Cruiser. Shame that they would kill off the XTerra back in 2014 or 2015 along with the FJ Cruiser after 15 years before the rise of trucks and SUVs, and even before the expansion of the off road market too.

    Last spring i rebuilt an 02 pathy with a manual 5sp and added upgrades for even more offroad capability. Recently took it in to a local dealer to replace a recalled airbag. A salesman came over and says it looks great, can see I go offroad, and he can give me a great trade in for one of those rock creek mallfinders. I said forget it, that thing couldnt even run the easy trails that a couple miles away from the dealership. The guy says oh you would be surprised with what this thing can do so i said prove it. He says ok, we have some obstacles in a lot down the road. I laughed and asked what some 6in speed bumps? I said follow me to the trails and if it cant handle it I would give it some consideration. After some hmms and haass and assurances that there wasnt any mud around he finally agreed and off we went. Within a couple min the saleman in the mallfinder finds himself almost high centered on a track with ruts about 9in deep as he didnt want to run on the side and possibly scratch the doors. I jumped off the trail, ran through some brush/cactus (I'm in AZ), pulled up next to the guy, and sarcastically asked if he was having an issue and needed some help, i told him not to worry as I carry tow straps. The guy sheepishly says he thinks he can back it out and roughed up some undercarriage components as he forces the thing out in reverse. Back at the start of the rut trail I tell the guy he better head back as this is the only entry road for a few miles and he agreed. I said I think I'll keep my real pathy and since i was there was gonna go try to find some mud. The guy didn't say another word. The thing looks nice enough, has strong towing capacity, but otherwise cant handle much more than a speed bump.

    Honestly this fixes most of my gripes with Nissan products. Even though it's the ZF9 which isn't the greatest transmission, it's still better than the CVT. Though I do wish this used a RWD architecture like the explorer so it could have an actual 4WD system.

    Technically FWD bias is better in snow and loose dirt and gravel so it’s technically better off-road

    Great content guys. I own a r50 2000 Pathy as I just didn't like the box square shape of the 2'nd gen r51 nor sub par interior, 3'rd Gen Yuk! (Wont bother going there) I love my r50 but she's a tired old girl. Nissan FINALLY went back to what the model's name suggests. Hope they release a rock creek version here in Australia yet call it 'Dingo Creek' which would be the perfect name to compliment where an Aussie would take this off the beaten path on Fraser Island in Queensland (Home of the wildest and was pure breed of Dingo down under) Dingo is same as a Wolf is over there, just wilder and orange / dusty in colour so even more perfect a name

    They build the Pathfinder, lease it as the Mallfinder, and after some fender benders, when the lease is up, it is resold as a Hoodfinder. 100,000 miles later, it is resold as a Repofinder, and then is eventually stolen as a Methfinder. Nissan: Cars for when you’re trash but can usually hold a job.

    MALLFINDER. That’s a well thought out title. It fits all Nissan products’ failure to achieve off-road worthiness since their last appearance in the Baja race series when they redefined the term “off-road” as that well maintained gravel path most people refer to as driveways 😂

    As much as this trend of "off-roady" is getting a bit crazy, I understand why everyone's trying to cash in on it seeing it sells. This looks like a great offering. The Ford Explorer Timberline is a joke and so is the outdated Pilot Trailsport (tho it's getting an update). This by far beats them out. I don't even mention the CVT Forester.

    If you care enough about transmissions to hate on the forester why not just go for a 2023 6MT Crosstrek before subaru kills the manual in it?

  • @richardnavratil9661

    @richardnavratil9661

    I'm not in the market for these. I myself have a manual daily, but isn't the issue you get stripped down features on manuals, unless it's a specialty/sports car (which has been my gripe in the US as compared to Europe). Plus, you don't cross shop the Crosstrek and Forester, I would think? At least let me put it this way - I was replying to the video description as to what I'd pick. I drive a manual coupe, but if I was in the market for a new car, I wouldn't cross shop a sports coupe with an SUV, much like some people might need the 3 rows hence Crosstrek is not an option.

  • @housepianist

    I understand that. This trendy off-road look does get ridiculous. I can imagine true off-readers laughing at this because there's nothing about this trend that translates into true off-road worthiness. The only "off-road" time these vehicles will have is clipping the corner of their lawn while backing out of their driveways.

  • @richardnavratil9661

    @richardnavratil9661

    @@housepianist That being said, how many Wranglers, Gladiators, Broncos and other serious off-roaders do you see driving around with all-terrain tires never having left pavement and being Mall-Terrain Vehicles? People like the look and manufacturers are cashing in big time.

  • @vincent8900

    @vincent8900

    @@richardnavratil9661 I didn't see the description. As for cross shopping, Scotty Kilmer had a customer who switched from a Rav 4 to a Crosstrek. Given that the Rav 4 and Forester are similar in size, I could see people cross-shopping to a Crosstrek if interior space wasn't a priority. The forester also isn't a 3-row though. Sometimes getting less features in a manual is also a plus since that means there's less stuff that can break. Ultimately I think buying a brand new "off road" trim vehicle is silly when buying a lower trim or older car and building is more cost effective
