Surprising Lessons From 100 Days of Rejection: Jia Jiang at TEDxAustin

Chasing your dream requires you put everything out there and deal with the consequences. When aspiring entrepreneur Jia Jiang left corporate life to build his dream company, he had no idea it also meant facing crushing rejection.
The best way to recover? 100 Days of Rejection Therapy. Halfway through now, it's been an astonishing journey, and proof positive that we have no idea what is waiting on the other side of an audacious request.
Extend the conversation and expand on ideas with Jia Jiang: join their Opal Brainstorm at tedxaustin.ouropal.com/brains...
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)

After 6 years of waiting and 5 rejections, I finally got the job of my dream. I will be starting it in two weeks. I'm nervous about it because I am afraid it might not turn out to be what I want but I know I will never be happy until I get it. Persistence and believing in myself did pay off at the end. Don't stop believing in yourself. Thank you for the great advice.

Very inspirational. But I think fear of rejection is more to do with expectations: if we think we'll be accepted and we are rejected, we'll become afraid and start thinking we'll get rejected to protect ourselves, but we are just hurting more. By thinking we'll be rejected about something we don't care and then being accepted builds our confidence back to try something that might hurt us again.

Upon relating to your experience with the surprising kindness of strangers (Jackie), the gratitude and beauty of such moments in life conjured appreciative tears for the beauty in life. Thank you for sharing such a well structured and uplifting presentation upon your experiences living a life where you've lived life at its best: A life where you've minimized fear by cleverly utilizing a mechanism to deal/accept/cope with rejection.

A movie came out this year, and I was waiting a long time to see it. I found out I had to have surgery the day the movie premiered! So naturally, after the simple minor surgery, while the nurse was pushing me around in the wheelchair, I asked if I could borrow the wheelchair to get good movie seats. She said no, but hey, it was fun. I did end up seeing it that weekend, in a normal seat.

It happens so many times it doesnt even bother me anymore but hopefully one day Ill get accepted by something or someone... I really hope some time in the future when that happens it will look like a big middle finger to everyone who rejected me in the past

I know you've inspired many persons, most of whom you will never meet personally, so you'll never know the great, positive impact you've had on their lives, but you did it anyway...your poised and smooth delivery are also most probably due to your experience of many rejections before your victories. you deserve all the successes you've already had, and the many more you will surely achieve!
