yea, in fact before the colonisation era, we're using modified arabic letters to write (after Sanskrit's decline) like the Jawi/Yawi script (except for Javanese and closely related ethnics, where they have their own script based on the Brahmic scripts)

As an Arab I really appreciate your effort and integrity, I would also like to add the English word Camera, which is originated from the Arabic word Qumrah meaning a cabin, where it was the first time a medieval Arabic scholar* discovered light image projection in a dark cabin. *The scholar's name is Alhasan Ibn Alhaitham Albasri, from what was modern day Iraq. I tried to explain to the Egyptian construction manager that the pronunciation of the word Yacht is Yot. Affidavit is Latin. In Italian we still use that verb: affidare - to trust smth to sb, which the past tense 3rd person singular is affidò, and “affidavit” in Latin.

Tomato is actually from the Aztec empire of Mexico pre-Spanish invasion. Other Aztec food names are avocado(aguacate in Spanish), chocolate.

I was surprised that many places in Ohio, USA, have Arabic names. For example, there is a place called Madina or Madena, another place is Qadis, the other is Pakestine, and even Toledo came from the Arabic world along with Tonjah. In Iowa, USA, there is a town called Kader or Qadar, and the name came after Abdul Qadar ALJazary, when previous Americans did not call revolutionaries terrorists..

Great topic 👍 and the most language in Europe that took so many words from Arabic is actually Spanish Language! It's not a surprise since the time of Andalusia. There is even traditional songs in Spain that was originally Arabic songs with Arabic words 😉 I read there is more than 10k words in Spanish language that is actually Arabic words.

As an Arab , i didn't know many words in romance languages originated from Arabic, so I am proud of my language and culture ❤🎉

The same word "Europe" itself came originally from Arabic. Centuries ago it was refered to as the place or the land where the Sun set. In Arabic one could say (غروب) equal to Sunset and this arabic word can be written so in english letters (Gheroup). One would even find such an early reference for this terminology back to B.C -time literary works.

You mention the word zero. It comes from 'Sifr' in Arabic, meaning empty. For example if the units digit is Sifr, it is empty. There are no units there. It's symbol, unsurprisingly is 0, which is an empty circle, or more recently an ellipse. The word 'hurry' is the past participle of the Arabic verb هُرِع. The letter ع has been dropped because it's difficult for native speakers of English to pronounce. The meaning, however, has been retained.

there is more.. the verb cut is derived from Arabic too from the verb( qatt ) قطَّ which it means to cut specially for shaping the wood to use it in writing long time ago and now they use it in Iraq for sharpening the pencils

​@rebeccaandissac Nope. Misinformation. Arabic is extremely easy to aquire, normal to learn. The misinformation came from those who were exposed to the endless Arabic grammar BOOKS. 98% of native haven't learned those books, just the first 3 stages of elementary school is enough. 2% those are people who are deeply intrested in literature especially in becoming judges of literature.

@@ladtm I am native & the percentage is my estimate, but I studied 6 years in elementary school. 3 years in intermediate school. 3 years in high school. 4 years in university. Every year, we studied a new grammar book, but if you ask me now what did I learn? All I can remember is the first 3 years of elementary school, the rest was not for me, it was for those who would like to become critic's of literature something I estimate 98% of Arabs are not intrested in.

Admiral from Alameer meaning leader, Aljabra from Aljabr means fixing the fracture. Cup from Koob same meaning. Jury from Jarr the verb which means drag something or someone AKA the witness. Gause from Gaza which used to be the hub for textiles and many many more

@@afsane_nezhadi Ma'am, if you had some knowledge regarding etymology of Words then you may have understood that many words from Persian were taken from Arabic...Look at the example per s...Al Jabr is an arabic term by the way. The word jabr (root jubara) has a number of meanings in ordinary Arabic. The first meaning is “to reduce a fracture”, while the second, which is more general, is “to force, to compel. Pls verify your knowledge before commenting.
