80s music has a unique appeal to me: it can sound both cheesy and cool at the same time. Synthwave perfectly captures this aspect! Heck, Fragments of Bach I by Compilerbau (34:55) even adds "virtuoso" to to "cheesy & cool".

The first music is perfect to listen when driving your car in the middle of nowhere. Grateful to hear this!

Hmm, now that you mention it, the Terminator theme by Brad Fiedel is probably THE thing that got me into synthwave. ^^ Also I prefer more of the melancholic than happy go lucky stuff, probably made a big impact.

The peak of the wave and 'right time' must have been the year 2000.

If you really think about it. The 80s never ended. The tales of glory still live on since medias like this that do their absolute best to capture what was keeps the original vibes alive. In some ways, we may never be able to be around in such a great time but in other ways, we are also having the best of it. For those of us that love the 80s, we have the 80s and the modern tech that helps us have the best-ish of both worlds.

I remember listening to this when I was about 14 or 15 don't quite remember. in maths class thinking about all the retro movies I watched when I was a kid and being jealous that I didn't get to live through those times I'm just glad I got to listen to synthwave in the best years of my life
