"Superswede" Ronnie Peterson's Final Formula 1 Win! - 1978 Austrian Grand Prix in Automobilista 2

Ойындар

For those who were there to see him, Ronnie Peterson left an unforgettable mark. Almost universally, memories of him sliding the iconic John Player Special Lotus' fill onlooker's memories. A sure-bet talent, he played teammate to Emerson Fittipaldi, Jacky Ickx, and Mario Andretti at the height of their careers, and often outperformed them all! It could have ended all so differently, but its undeniable that 1970s Formula 1 and Ronnie Peterson are forever intertwined.

    The Ground Effect Era of the Mid-Late 70’s was such a revolutionary time for F1, right before the V6-turbo monsters of the 1980’s. I would’ve loved to see those cars race in person.

    The 70s F1 cars in AMS2 are such a joy to race, I think I've driven them more than any other category, there's so many classic 70s era tracks in game too, and Reiza have said they are working on 70s Sportscar content next too, including Le Mans. It's an exciting time to be a classic motorsport fan in sim racing, AMS2 is so much more immersive than rFactor (where I personally do most of my classic sim racing).

    So are you saying that the 70’s F1 cars in AMS2 provide a better experience than the 75 mod in RF2? From the video at least it sounds like uniform car physics with mostly different graphics/skins- unlike RF2. I look forward to when cars/tracks/seasons and wet weather physics including wet racing line are approximately modeled. Fwiw, that Lotus wouldn’t have completed one lap around the circuit using that racing line in RL under those conditions.

  • @therealjuralumin3416

    @therealjuralumin3416

    @@DSW964 I only play RF1, not RF2 so I wouldn't really know. I was talking more about immersion rather than realism, AMS2's graphics, audio and weather effects really make it feel real, even if maybe the physics aren't as detailed as other options. I felt the same way about Project Cars 2, I wasn't a big fan of the physics, but racing at Le Mans or spa through a full day night cycle with changing weather was an amazing experience.

    @@therealjuralumin3416see- Thanks for clarifying. I hear the argument about immersion a lot and if I understand correctly this is centered around graphics. Having amateur racing background this is really secondary to me vs. realism in driving dynamics and historically accurate full grids/good AI. RF2 still leaves a lot to be desired- especially with AI, but I’m not sure the other 2 currently more popular sims are actually better in any of these areas. The RF2 75 F1 mod however is leaps and bounds better than anything in RF1 imo.

    @@therealjuralumin3416 You can talk graphics and immersion all day, but nothing comes close to Matra MS11 at Spa 66 in rFactor 2. The driving is sublime and makes all the other sims laughable. You should definitely try it out.

    Exaggerating much? RF2 has excellent FFB and very immersive sounds, but it doesn't make the other top sims (AMS2, AC, ACC) laughable. The 1975 F1 cars in AMS2 are excellent, more so after the last 1.48 update.

    What I always find confusing with these mods is the performance of the cars which is far away from reality. Look at the start: Coming up the hill you have Rosberg with the ATS in third place, Arnoux with the Martini in fourth, while Lauda and Watson with the Brabhams are deadlast. When I used to drive Grand Prix Legends I always looked ahead to the car running in front of me, hoping I might be fighting against a Lotus, the Eagle or the Works Brabhams. This point is completly missing here as the perfomance seems to be randomized. Is there a particular reason why it works that way?

  • @GPLaps

    @GPLaps

    Жыл бұрын

    Well its not completely randomized, but it may just be because of how the ratings are within the 1978 skinpack and how Reiza have set up the different cars. There are actually only 3 'makes' of cars in this set, the Lotus 79, the Brabham BT49 and a generic 'v8' car. The skin mod creator has done their best to paint the different cars to look like the real ones the best they can, and tune the AI to perform as well as they can, but the Lotus 79 is very quick which is why you're seeing Rosberg in the "ATS" upfront, because its actually a Lotus 79 Nothing compares to GPL in its ability to simulate these old races, but there is some good fun to be had here regardless :)

    It’s a shame he had to be number two at different teams. I wouldn’t doubt it if Mario is somewhat haunted by that. Clearly, Ronnie was faster at some races. I was at the USGP right after Ronnie was killed. It was cool, but somber. They were congratulating Mario, but it was hard for him to be happy. Best and worst of times in F-1. Ronnie had to drive the all-aluminum Lotus because Mario had crashed his primary carbon car. The weaker aluminum may have contributed to his death. Sobering fact.
