The Beauty of Being Average - RSS 1970 Assetto Corsa

Ойындар

Being average is great. What Race Sim Studio have brought us with their 1970 Formula car is a perfect look into racing's past. Away from the dramatic, eccentric and sometimes peculiar, and in with something that captures the authentic experience. It may not be the championship winning car, and it may not always be the quickest. But a well balanced moderate race car will be more fun 9 times out of 10, and isn't that what its all about?

Jake, you're a scholar who uses digital media to tell his story. I've never come across a video of yours that hasn't made me feel good, and your reverence and passion for vintage racing is 2nd to none. You're responsible for my current addiction to RBR and I don't even know how many other sim racing vices you'll lead me down or lead me tot return to

I could've watched that introduction forever - it was that good. It wasn't hairs-on-the-neck-standing-up, it was so much more than that. You could almost feel the approving roar of all those drivers of the past, who'd striven and striven, risked life and limb, and left absolutely everything out there on the track to scrape by with a point, or in most cases nothing at all for their Herculean efforts; all the people who worked tirelessly on these machines, tinkering and toiling away into the wee hours and beyond. Your respect for them will not have gone unnoticed.

This was Jackie’s favourite track, with good reason. I saw this car race in 1970 on its maiden outing and RSS have done themselves proud. It is a pity the 701 was too heavy, but the likes of Stewart and Amon kept it close to the front throughout the season.

Love your work Jake . I believe this car holds the F1 track record at the old Spa circuit , set by Chris Amon in the Team March works entry . And also won the Race of Champions at Silverstone with Amon leading Stewart home . The car was as good , out of the box , as it would ever be , and the way Mosley + co. ran the company was dubious to say the least. Selling cars to whomever had the money , therefore diluting the effort to develop the car . They had only 1 team car and shared all of Amon's development data with whomever bought a car , which upset Amon so much . He had taken a chance to join March , based on Mosley's guarantee that he was team's focus . And then they shafted him totally , firing him for asking where his pay was . Mosley didn't have the balls to do it face to face , he waited till Amon came home for the Tasman Series , and announced it in a newspaper release . Absolute coward . Like father , like son .... I have always wondered how this car might have developed if it had been given a fair shake . But it wasn't meant to be , just another failed project . I met Amon at Hampton Downs at an event celebrating his career .The 701 was there ( looked awful , had been a static display for many years ) , and the way he talked about it was nostalgic , no rancour or hate for Mosley , just disappointment about the lost opportunity . How would we be discussing this car's record if they had allowed the development to happen ? Keep pumping out these fascinating tales . They are what makes you different to all other sim commentators , no one else looks at sim racing in the same way , your love of what you're doing shines through and is infectious . Thanks for the ride !!

Someone really oughta get you a deal to create series about historical race cars. I really enjoy the sim racing portion as well, don't get me wrong. You really have a talent though to tell captivating stories about the history of these cars and finding things that average fans like myself might not be aware of and make it gripping and something that I'm interested to learn more in.

OMG. I just download the car (I already had several other RSS cars and they're all great). This car is soooo addictive - especially on the tracks from that era. The sound through my headset and the sensations through the wheel puts you in the car how you imagine it would be. I've now downloaded most of the tracks from 1970. It's very hard to stop doing laps in this car, "just one more". Österreichring is particularly good; Spa is just plain scary to contemplate they raced there.

Man the 70s era is an era I know very little about. I started a mini 70s championship with a great skin pack against AI on AMS2 last night, and I love driving them chimney cars but agree that they seem too forgiving. The immersion is epic in VR. Just hope they give us some more 70s tracks and cars.

The sidepod aero was unproven back then, but these days it is acknowledged as the very first Ground Effect Formula 1 car ever built! They did tests with Mario Andretti without the sidepods and the car handled much worse! There is a German video from the magazine „Auto Motor & Sport“ where they talk about all the ground effect eras in F1 and there they talk about the 701 ground effect. Very interesting!

Stunning video, one of your best (which is saying a lot!) intros for me - real goosebumps stuff. And perfectly captures something I often find immersion breaking in games; a field made of the ‘superstars’ and not the grid fillers. The stars are only the stars if there’s a strong supporting cast and this era has the perfect blend of competitive cars available to privateers to create beautiful, varied and competitive grids - the Porsche 906s to balance out the Ford GTs and P4s, these Marches to back up the Lotus and the T70s to challenge the McLarens, Porsches and Ferraris. Like you, I like putting myself in the shoes of an upstart privateer. Unlike you, I can’t explain or showcase my feelings with stunningly well written and produced videos! Thanks

I have played GPL since it came out in 98 but not for the last few years. It looks stunning now. How could a system would I need to really do the modern updates justice?

The sim in this video is not GPL, it is Assetto Corsa. But to answer your question, pretty sure the you can still run "modern" GPL on a potato.

@@larryhaines7109 ah right. I have AC on my PS4 but guess most sim racers use desktops or high end laptops. My acer was good in its day but feel i need an upgrade if I want to even tun the latest updates for GPL let alone AC. Our potatoes dont have enough chips. Lol

@@kuroneko9270 Thanks. I wont pretend to know what most of those terms mean. Still, i may just get a version of AC to see how it works. I have had to order a new copy of GPL. Mine has gone missing so when I get that I will reinstall everything and take it from there. I know a laptop us never going to be as good as a desktop but it is infinitely more practical for me.

@@GPLaps 'Champions Forever' is almost 'One by One'. The documentary was released three times with different titles and slightly modified content. 'One by one' was the first title in 1975 for the cinema release, then it was called 'The quick and the dead' for it's VHS release in the late 70's, and finally 'Champions Forever' for the DVD release.
