You know... there's meta, which usually consists of pop-culture references and insider jokes. then there's really meta, like what this show did with Chuck and the supernatural books. Then there's Deadpool-meta, which i don't really need to explain because we're talking about Deadpool here. And then there's this shit, where a twitter post that was posted in the actual fictional universe of supernatural, is also the same twitter post that can be seen in our real world. Does that mean that our universe is technically canon to this show? My head hurts...

@@Da1337Man I know right Supernatural seem to show many different Depths of Meta I won't give spoilers for those who haven't seen it but the musical episode now that is now that is another example of going very it's going very Meta But in this episode the fact that misha Collins literally tweeted as they were filming the scene And anyone who follows misha Collins are followed him then on Twitter had no clue what exactly that tweet meant And that they had no idea that this tweet was done during the the filming of this very meta meta episode

I'm convinced that no one does meta as naturally and brilliantly as SPN: the fan service masquerading as fan taunting, the self aware and humble humor, the jabs at industry tropes, and all of it manages to fit nearly seamlessly into the realm of plausible ideas in the show. Simply put, perfection.

I like that they used actual wedding photos from Jared and Gen’s wedding

You know, I like to imagine that while this episode is taking place, somewhere in the "real" supernatural universe, you have two very confused actors by the names of Jared and Jensen wondering where their lights and cameras and set went. The story is just much more fun to me if the "real" Sam and Dean switch places with the actors playing them.

(More) Trivia: The "Not talking" bit is supposed to be making fun of the acting industry, where people don't always get along as well as their characters on screen. Kripke wrote a " Thank you" - Mail to somebody at Spn ( don't remember who exactly), saying how much he appreciated the awesome way his character died in this episode. It was never Bob Singers idea to have a character named after him, I think that was Kripke. Misha pitched the idea of making AU - Misha a total douche. That didn't work out, so he tried to bring as much douche - like behaviour into his performance as possible. Also, I don't know if you know this, but Misha's birth name wasn't Misha Collins, but Dmitri Kruchnik (pretty sure I spelled that wrong). He made his stage name Misha Collins, because it was easier to spell. Friends and family already called him Misha and Collins was his grandmother's maiden name. I think that's why they put the "His name is Misha. Misha???"bit in there and I'm pretty sure Jensen enjoyed that line ;P Also the boys trailers or Jared's house don't look like that in real life. As someone else mentioned the Spn cast does a lot of charity work. The huge paintings of Gen an Jared in this ep, for example, got auctioned of for charity purposes. Before that, Jared asked if he could take the paintings and the one of him on a horse from set and he stored him in Vancouver for quite a while. He didn't really know what to do with them after he brought them to his place. The boys bodyguard is called Cliff, but that's not him on the screen. He played Tiny in an episode in season 2, though, if you ever rewatch it ;) The show is really filmed in Canada. Oh, and that's the real wedding picture of Gen and Jared on the shelf there. Misha had to leave the set because he couldn't keep a straight face during the acting scene. I'll edit this if I remember more, but that's all I remember now :) EDIT: They didn't know that the Days of our Life's clip would be on the screen already when they filmed the scene. If I remember correctly, Jared was laughing so hard there were tears coming down his face, while Jensen had trouble recognizing himself for a moment when he saw the clip. Regarding the charity thing: Members of the Spn cast have participated in marathons to raise money for charity causes. There is also a charity called Random Acts, founded by Misha, which has done a ton of good. The charity was inspired by the generosity of the SPN fandom. The fandom to this date has raised millions for charity. Popular Spn - campaigns that brought awareness to mental health issues are " Always keep fighting" and " You are not alone". From what I've seen, those campaigns had a lot of impact on many people dealing with mental health issues. I could go on and on about this, because it's amazing how much there is to tell about the Spn Family and charity, but I'll stop here :)

No need to apologize for laughing - you're certainly not alone! And I'm glad the "where"? line after Genevieve tells J2 that Misha's been stabbed got a big laugh out of you. I've always found that line hysterical, but for some reason, a lot of people don't seem to pick up on it. Or at least, not on first watch. There were never any rumours about J2 not talking. It's been well known that they were besties almost from the start. It was a joke on what is known to happen in the industry in other shows where there have been big fallings out (e.g. Sex and The City).

The best part is the scene in Jensen's trailer. The laptop screen was supposed to be a green screen, but they changed it to the real thing to get Jensen's legitimate reaction.

"We're the Winchesters. Always have been, always will be." Well now you're Soldier Boy and Walker 😂

Yay! When you started Season 6, I was like, "We're getting to The French Mistake soon!" This is considered as one of the top 5 episodes of SPN, and it's always a fun watch.

This episode is so much fun! More trivia: The guy who says “an atrocity is happening” is an actor portraying the irl Serge Ladoucer, who was Supernatural’s director of photography for all 15 seasons.

The best of the meta episodes, imo. This is one I always look forward to reactors getting to.

I think of this episode as showing the fandom some love. And, no show pulls off meta like this show does. These guys are natural jokesters so this episode is right up their alley. They lean into it with such ease. Definitely a fan favorite. Great reaction.

I live in Vancouver, where they filmed the show. You can easily recognize locations. In this episode, they tried to make it look like Vancouver, and it looked really weird and nothing like home at all. That, to me, made it even funnier.

I loved this episode, the ultimate 4th wall break.

I've been waiting for you to get to this one..good timing too.. laughter is the best medicine. Jared has those pop portraits of he and Gen in his garage. This is another one that's good every time .. knowing what's coming doesn't ruin it. The title of this episode comes from the end of Blazing Saddles when they break through the (4th) wall and the male chorus is singing French Mistake.

And so, of course this episode is a fan favorite. I didn't interact with the fandom when I first saw it, and I didn't know a lot of the BTS stuff, so I was about where you are. I knew a bit more though, just not as much as most fans. This episode did poke a lot of fun at things with the show and J2's real lives. The SPN fandom can be toxic, but you can filter that out on social media - mostly.

Jared did not know they were going to use his wedding picture, so when he saw it on the fireplace, his expression was real surprise. Many people thought that was the real Eric Kripke. But it wasn't.

I think Cas' lack of communication is down to a few things; the fact that there are parts he feels he can't reveal to them, the fact that parts of what is going on might be hard to explain to humans (how does angel warfare even look in Heaven?), the fact that he is always almost pressed for time, and the fact that sometimes the brothers, especially Dean, can be a bit quick to judge and argue rather than listen and try to understand, and before this they have at times been a bit dismissive of what's at stake. I think Cas simply doesn't know how to have a productive conversation with them. And I think Cas really wants to just have the support of their friendship. Cas' might be trying to avert the Apocalypse restarting because he thinks it's the right thing to do, but his more personal stake in this is also fighting to preserve what him and his friends achieved, and protect them. I think he really, really wants to avoid having to deal with a conflict with them, on top of everything else he is dealing with, and just have them trust him and support him. It's not fair to ask for trust and support like that, but I understand why you might really want it when you're dealing with such high stakes.

architectural digest visited both Jared's and Jensen's real homes which are on KZread. they are both so beautiful but Jared's in particular is way more homey and cozy than shown here. they used German farmhouse as the theme when remodeling. Jensen's is a little more modern and on the water which is gorgeous.
