Wow! I really think Mrs. Heather is very nice and was cordial, but it's disturbing 😳 to watch her down play and justify the actions of her Principal Sarah on that day. It seems as if she regulates herself and her staff, so there's a mysterious lack of accountability at play in that department. Thank you very much for this follow up. You truly are the best at backing up our rights.

@@carlgreco5838 Yea someone looking to submit a F.O.I.A request, why would you lie? He stated clearly what he was trying to do and was looking for help. The lady said she would help, but decided to call the cops. Anyone can claim someone is lying, but does that mean you’re right? No. If someone has the right to record public officials in the course of their duty and submit a F.O.I.A, why would anyone call the cops? I agree that we need to protect our children, but we also need to protect our rights. We can’t violate people’s rights because “someone might be lying”. @carlgreco5838 Let’s call the cops on everyone who we think is lying because that makes a lot of sense. If someone “might” be doing something let all call the cops ,because whatever I think is going to happen, is going to happen because I know everything.

Three thoughts come to mind: 1) It seems like more times than not when a 1A Auditor requests FOIA material sent by email said material is sent but never received. 🤔 2) The Vice Principal (and Principal & all other office staff) should be familiar with FOIA. I seem to recall hearing on one of the other Auditor's channels (BAT?) that the office in a Public School does have a degree of public access because there are records the public has a right to view (I think it had to do with something other than just FOIA). 3) Could be the police referred to it as a "lockdown" because either that is how the school conveyed the situation to them or the police heard the school was on "Secure" but not knowing (or caring) that "lockdown" was a separate measure the school could take the cops saw the two terms as interchangeable.

You do have to understand that people could lie about why they were at a school. I side with the school on this matter. I have fought with my own town to get the police policy and procedures. It took 9 months, the town clerk and the police administration assistant for public records both "retired" after the Secretary of States office sued them for the records. I believe in this movement WHOLEHEARTEDLY. I have called many town halls and police departments for auditors. This response by a school is totally understandable. Please don't sour this movement with not understanding why a school would want to secure children. Come on man don't be obtuse to this. You know better than that. It's a school and children. Yes they should have had better information as to where the administration office was, but I have children in my family as well as you may. A school is not a public forum, and shouldn't be. Move on from this. Go to the administration building and continue to conduct FOIAs. The school was right to do this.

I don't think they should react to an extreme, but humans rarely can be predicted. If you knew this was a school, which I understand you didn't, but would you have gone there if you did know?

To me, they obviously had no idea what to do, and it wouldn't have mattered if it was a big ole white dude filming the place!... They apparently had never been in a situation like that before. So to be better safe than sorry, even tho no kids were around, they locked it down....Not making excuses for any of those people, but you know all too well what a crazy ass world it's become!! Stay safe out there, man!

What’s most important is how we leave evidence of our interactions with each other with a fair hand shake…look….we are on stage for the next performance for the next generations will be the next act that follows

Safe? From photos? How many injuries and loss of lives have ever occurred from a camera. I just don't see any reasonableness to justify the response, except for the fact that it was a black man and a little tinge of racism was a factor.

He stated his business. They were helping him gather the FOIA info. There was no threat. Better to be safe than sorry? Do you always advocate calling the cops for any non-child on school grounds just to be safe? You are too willing to accept an obvious over-reaction just because children are in the equation. The supervisor needs some training in how to de-escalate and calm the fvck down. Do you think calling the cops is safe for children? Picture this: the cops arrive with hands on their guns, barking orders to stop resisting. TTC says, "Huh?" and turns. A cop immediately sees the camera tripod shaped 'gun', says the words "I fear for my life", and mag dumps him. How safe is that for the kids? They show up with all of their GI Joe gear that is obviously just for show (think: Uvalde), and an already formulated plan on how to "Take out the threat". THERE WAS NO THREAT UNTIL THEY CREATED ONE. They knew why he was there. How many times must it be said? The supervisor was scared of the black man. Her actions say more about her state of mind at the time than anything she can say now. Calling the cops always puts lives in danger. We see it all the time now that we all have video cameras. Would you want me to call the cops on you just to be safe? When they show up, would you be anxious? You bet you would, because you know how unpredictable these encounters are.

Do you really think that someone with ill intent is going to tell the truth. Especially when you brought up something she never heard of and you were in the wrong place? Communication from person to person is not always reliable and language used by school personal and police are different. I'd rather have them protect kids and ask questions later.

While your intentions were honest, from the perspective of a teacher, the school's actions were appropriate. In view of all the shootings in the schools, no one would have been able to ascertain your school-related purpose of being in that location or intent (no matter how sincere) or whether you were concealing a weapon. Further, it is not known if there were any other causes of alarm in that school or the district recently or in the past. The caution to protect the children is paramount. I do respect your integrity and demeanor in conducting your investigation. Your professionalism is above board. If missteps/errors were made, I'm confident you will uncover them. I'm sorry this happened to you.
