I would use the GluBoost Accelerator between coats. Still i would wait some time after but the Gluboost Accelerator will make the Fill n Finish in the pores dry and alleviate other complications.

This is really great looking. How many total coats did you end up applying? Four and sanding down? I was just wondering because it looks so good. I had a friend bring me a guitar where the peg head finish cracked all the way down to the wood on the top, I don’t know why. It was pretty simple to chip up all the way from the top to the truss rod adjuster. The back was fine. I taped up the edges good to build a dam and used black glue like this and painted until it covered and it leveled out well. Once almost dry, removed the tape, sanded the glue, and repeat. Total of three times. The last time, I waited a week and started with 200 and went to 1200 sandpaper, then buffed. It worked good but I had to buy a water slide label and I got some crap deep in the glue in one place that I couldn’t get out but I’ve seen worse come from the factory. It’s all a learning process. Thank you D, you gave me the idea and the guts to do it.

LOL! I was thinking the same of you! :D Seriously, I was interested in trying the superglue finish, since I've done many nitro jobs. I was just expressing an interest in something different. So a person can't express an opinion, without a smart ass comment? I'm 61 years old; been playing since '67, and been working on guitars since '85. Take your condescending attitude, elsewhere.

  • @Ibaneddie76

THERE ARE NO (EASY) FINISHES IF YOU WANT A GREAT RESULT. A FINISH IS JUST A PROTECTIVE COATING APPLIED OVER WOOD. IF YOU WANT TO TAKE SHORT CUTS OR GET IT DONE FAST YOUR FINISH WILL NOT BE VERY DURABLE OR CONSISTENT. THAT BEING SAID MY PERSONAL OPINION IS NITRO IS THE EASIEST FINISH TO APPLY, IT TAKES A WHILE TO GET THE FINISHED PRODUCT BECAUSE OF IT'S VERY SLOW CURE TIME BUT IT'S VERY FORGIVING BECAUSE EACH COAT MELTS INTO THE PREVIOUS. ALOT OF PEOPLE WOULD SAY TRUE OIL BUT TRUE OIL HAS A LEARNING CURVE IF YOU WANT A PRO FINISH NOT JUST A SLOPPED ON COUPLE COATS THAT DENTS AND SCRATCHES IF YOU TOUCH IT WITH YOUR FINGER NAIL. THERE ARE MANY GREAT RECOURSES ON FINISHES SPECIALLY IF YOU GO TO STORES LIKE WOODCRAFT. ACTUALLY THE SUPER GLUE FINISH HAS BEEN AROUND FOR A LONG TIME, WOOD TURNERS HAVE BEEN USING IT FOR YEARS AND IT'S NOT A THAT HARD OF A FINISH TO APPLY, I LIKE IT ON RAW WOOD RATHER THAN DYED OR STAINED.

Can you operate a rag? Watco Danish Oil and TruOil are easy to apply, great looking finishes. Yes - apply them well and frequently, and they will buff up to a high shine as well as lacquer.

Fellow beginner here. I have finished two guitars so far, one with tru-oil and one with Crimson guitars finishing oil. I would say both are really easy to work with and I got great results with both despite never having done any kind of finishing before. Crimson oil is easier to apply and at least for me it was cheaper, but it smells pretty nasty so not as nice to work with.

Why don't you just use Tru-Oil? If you apply it lightly, & have patience, you can get a nice glossy finish with Tru-oil - just steel wool it between coats.

Not worth it, sands poorly and does not take the heat when polishing. Investing in a sealer (6 EUR for a can) and a professional top coat (30 EUR per can, 2K) pays off quicker. I have done my share of sealing and finishing with CA, too cumbersome and not at all compatible with tints. But great for drop fill or sealing small areas. I am guessing this one is nonblooming so it doesn't burn your eyes. I once sealed a whole SG with CA and my eyes almost fell out

Obviously, you are doing it wrong. I was doing superglue finishes back in the 80's. You want to apply it with wet-or-dry sandpaper folded over. USE THE BACK of the sandpaper. Also, put it down HEAVY, using light pressure with the sandpaper.

A few points here. 1. The technique for doing this on literal raw wood is not the same as the technique for doing it on dyed wood. Laying it on heavy and moving it around would have messed up the leather dye. 2. There's also a difference between using is just as a sealer, and using it as a finish. In this video it's being used as a finish, and it seems pretty clear that the awesome results speak for themselves. 3. People who think there's only one way to do something, generally just don't know enough about it haha.
