Quilted Maple Stratocaster | DIY Leather Dye Fire Burst | How To In Real Time!

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

In this video I show you how I used Angelus leather dye to stain the top of a quilted maple Stratocaster style guitar body. It's much more simple that you think it would be and just requires some imagination and creativity with colors.
Huge shoutout out to Tye at Shock the Fox ( tinyurl.com/yuxw3595 ) for sending me this quilted maple top. This guitar wouldn’t be the same without it.

Looks fantastic but like you said, after the pickguard goes on it's a different story. The only thing that makes sense on a strat (traditional routing where the pickguard must go on) is a Martin style burst where it closely follows the contours of the body.

I received my Angelus Leather Dye starter set yesterday to use on woodturning projects. It is a great product! Much more intense pigment than General Finishes waterbased dye and it doesn't raise the grain. For a little more than $50 you can choose 12 colors to experiment with.

Do you shake your dyes before use? It seems to me that rear mounted electronics and side hole for the input jack would allow for a full quilted top without the use of a pick guard….that would be beautiful..

Awesome job Nick but I wish you would’ve finished it to see the final finish and see what products you used to do the job. What black lacquer, sanding, sealer, and clearcoat product did you use? I am thinking about doing a Strat myself and I really like what you did but I’m new to it and since you are a woodworker, I believe I could trust the products and the process that you would present, I still would like to know the product you would suggest if you could reply to my post. I would really appreciate it. By the way I subscribe to your channel.

Question with these Angelus dyes. If you mix neutral with just a few drops of black will it just be black or will it dilute down to a thin greyish? Basically can I do that and get a faux sand back look? For a thin assed career that can't be sanded back at ALL, would that work? (Obviously a newbie)
