Supercharging A GT's 4.6-Liter For An Extra 200 Horses- HorsePower S12, E13

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

The late-model Mustang GT makes decent horsepower, but decent isn't enough for the HorsePower guys. They take a GT's 4.6-liter engine, add a new short block, and a Roush supercharger with a goal of adding about 60% more horsepower!

PARTS USED IN THIS EPISODE:
Enerpulse ,Inc.: Pulstar looks like a spark plug because it was designed to fit into the same hole in your engine. But, internally, Pulstar is very different, incorporating a pulse circuit no spark plug has.
Pattons Inc.: Nitrogen generator.
Roush Performance: This kit comes with a 2.3L TVS supercharger with black finish, upper and lower intake manifolds, an intercooler, a low temp radiator, a cold air intake system, a dual 60mm electronic throttle body, a unique fuel rail with 52 lb/hr fuel injectors. Also supplied with upgraded short block assembly.

4.6 great engine. Put Lysholm super charger on it. Kenny Bell has the same twin screw blower package. Great blower! Most important is a good tune. By that I mean a real good "Tuner". Headers, cold air intake with bigger throttle body and headers, bigger fuel pump. Shelby exhaust! Enjoy!

According to the guys at Brenspeed, you are right about where you should be, with stock internals. Rule of thumb, 450 RWT is about all you want to send. Horsepower is irrelevant, when it comes to breaking parts. It's the torque, off the line that breaks parts. Mostly connecting rods. Horsepower is developed at upper RPM, torque down low, when the most stress is created. Again, this is just Brenspeed's word.

Stock rods are perfectly capable of handling more horsepower than that. It's the torque that you need to keep in check. Any torque over 450 at the wheels, is bad for the stock rods. Everything else in the stock internals should be fine.

There are many reasons people build cars, other than making THE most HP. Considering the 18-19 GT's start with 460HP, making 500+ isn't much more than a CAI, headers and a tune. I personally prefer the S197 look over the S550. Plus, doing all the work myself, gives me some sense of accomplishment. Buying a 500+ HP car only takes money. Doing the work yourself, takes skill, patience, and knowledge.

Low compression sucks for something thats daily driven. With e85 these new gen3 coyotes run around with 12.0-1 compression and tvs blowers and hit hard. Only thing that helps this is the roushcharger making up the low end if it were turbo or centri it would be lazy out of boost without a gear change.

Why else would the old engine have already had the intake removed when we first get to see it if it wasn't because they remove the intake and ROUSHcharger ahead of time? OR maybe I'm crazy IDK...

admiral_peck 7 I was talking about the animated representations of the different kinds of superchargers. In the regular intro the twin screw supercharger turns the wrong way. The animation used in this episode was also going the wrong way. Each of them turn different directions but the animations are going backwards most of the time. When the animation goes backwards it’s a misrepresentation and doesn’t serve anyone. If they were spinning in reverse in reality they would be trying to draw air out of the engine rather than force it into it. That’s all I was saying.
