Richard, there is nothing wrong with your choice of jigs for that situation. You could also have used the smaller of the jigs I sent you (if you ever got them). I believe they weighed 1/40 oz. or thereabout (actual weight depends on the alloy used to mold them) and have a #8 hook. With four pound line and a slightly larger float, they would have allowed you to put a little more pressure on the fish if need be. Take care and keep the quality content coming.

Those male crappie darken up like that when they're well-fed in an aquarium. As beautiful as any tropical fish, for sure. Many people are flabbergasted (Don't let that word die.) at how beautiful a shellcracker or a redbreast is when they first see one in a good tank. I like when you're wading the bank like that. That looked like a small lake. If it was it sure had some healthy crappie. They were in gooood shape. Thank you once again for taking us along. I sure do like going.

Dear professor gene the fishing machine, It seems like I’ve been watching your videos for years. How do you never run out of information? I’m always getting notifications so I know you keep teaching class. I live on Hicks lake in Lacey Washington. I fish for crappie everyday after work unless it’s too miserable out. I have for years now. I think I know everything about crappie fishing. Nope. I just gotta check in with you and get my lesson. It’s free education. Thanks teach.

I love those small jigs now. Did not like them at first. Fly fish with #12 hook, no other fish -- till i tried it once. Actually used my fly rod to try it, takes a little getting used to. Its sure fun when you get in them. Then when you use a normal crappie jig, I thought how on earth is the fish gonna get that big ole hook, #4 & #6 hooks. I haven't tried your 2 lb line yet, looks like sewing thread, it's just hard for me to go below 6lb. Now if Richard says do it, guess i gotta try it. You aint never lied nor led us wrong yet. I hope you know how much we all appreciate everything you show us and the knowledge you share. God bless y'all Richard, and stay safe out there brother.

Hello Richard Looks like a great place and fly to use your fly rod. Crappie not being line shy allows for a short fluorocarbon leader tied directly to the fly line. Three “strips” or short tugs on the fly line will impart a different, more horizontal presentation that the crappie usually haven’t seen before. Deadly technique on shallow panfish

I'm so impatient when it comes to finesse. I usually use road runners (maribou) and rooster tails which are both crappie slayers. Also been using a blue ice bobby garland shad (thanks to you) and those work really well on naked white road runner hooks. There have been times I was getting skunked all day, switched to a chart road runner and got hooked up immediately. Gonna have to try the float and fly you mention in this video. I'm trying to do more finesse but again I just don't have the patience.
