Good evening Michael It is very interesting to Travels, your great finds. We Australians have to try much harder to find comics in what was a market supplied mainly from News stands or Newsagents as we called them. One more comment on Chris Claremont, an John Carter Warlord of Mars. I think he must have been a great Fan of Edgar Rice Burroughs as I was. A whole new world of collecting. Neal Adams had a great run paperback covers, which you no doubt know, Many thanks for the great content.

I could feel the cold through my monitor Mike, but as the saying goes, "Neither rain nor hail nor sleet shall keep the avid comic collector away from the flea market". Or something like that. The Jester was a regular DD villain for a long time, though I don't know what happened to him; I don't recall seeing him post-Bronze Age. Key #3: I'd pay $25 for that copy but that's about as high as I'd go; however, the important thing is whether the stories are complete - if the missing pages don't affect the stories then to me the comic has substantially more value than it would if stories are incomplete. Topix Comics #9: it sure does have a vibrantly coloured cover; these Catechetical Guild books must have a niche market somewhere. But if it was me, I'd get it graded to preserve it for the future, and having the highest graded issue in the CGC census would be a real thrill. Incidentally, Topix Comics were reprinted here in Australia but they didn't start until 1954; some issues included competitions and there seems to be the occasional locally produced story mixed with the US originals. As always Mike, a great video with lots of interesting comics.

I had a Captain Action figure as a kid as well as the Spider-Man and Batman costumes. What remains of the costumes isn’t much but they make me smile when I stumble across them while rummaging in my basement. Maybe I would have taken better care of them had I known the value they could fetch later in life (as seen in your footage around the 3:10 mark). But I got a lot of enjoyment playing with them many moons ago. Thanks for the quick walk down memory lane for me.

First off thank you for not including background music. It made me feel that I was there. A nice haul of books you picked up. I definitely would have picked up that Fantastic Four Big Little book. I always buy them when I find them. That particular one looked like the first print as well. That KEY COMICS comic book cover resembles the splash page to the first Joker story from BATMAN #1 (1940) from the Golden Age. The cover character does the same looking over the shoulder look as the Joker and the art looks very similar. A good video overall.

I worked in silk screen printing and also offset printing, two and four color printing when I was young. The POWDER you are referring to may be the corn starch product that was used to keep ink from and stock from sticking together. At one shop that I worked at the corn starch was all over the rafters. It created a charge, static I guess when we tried to vaccuum it up and I would get shocked. So the powder always sat on the rafters and we dare not touch it because it would fall into the press. It looked like snow or baby powder. It was a type of corn starch.

A book can be in really rough condition but it has to be complete. It is hard enough to get a spare cover if it is missing from a book but where do you get missing story pages if they are missing? Over the past year, I’ve been loading up on 50s Dells. Mid-grade copies can be really cheap (under $10), depending on the series. I really wanted to get a look at the box with old Atlas books too (I saw a Buck Duck #4, which is really pricey on eBay right now). That Topix looks really great; the cover art looks almost like Jack Kirby art. Those comics (like Topix and Treasure Chest) were directed toward kids in Catholic schools.

I can't imagine a Christian comic would have any value to a collector. That sort of stuff was considered to be "religion" and nobody wanted it. That is probably why it wasn't read. Outside of a church crowd, it was just religious material and people would avoid it as they would a real church. It's like finding a religious track, it's evangelism. People find it disturbing, or some people do, and even if they don't mind it, they don't crave it like a secular comic book. Religious comics are for MORAL instruction, the same as reading the bible. But you did say the book was all over the place.

Are you keep kidding ? All of those reasons would make it more scarce and more collectible.
