Super Old Golden-Age Comics Found at a FLEA MARKET!
Join me as I visit the famous Elephant’s Trunk Flea Market in New Milford, Connecticut for some late season comic hunting! Besides a few last minute Christmas gifts, I pick-up comics ranging from the late 1980s all the way back to the Golden Age of the 1940s, including some Pre-Code Horror! Watch to see what curiosities I found!

Wow, thank you so much!
Yes, get it graded!
Love the Key cover. A great display piece and even in that poor condition must be quite rare
That Key book is really cool. I’m glad you got it much cheaper.

Those golden age books are pure gold. You struck it rich with the purchase. Not for the value but simply because they look so cool.
Brilliant video.👍.Please get that Golden book graded and slabbed and on your wall it looks wonderful.🙂
absolutely grade it! it will be the highest graded copy in the world and you own it. plus you are preserving the history if you do.
Good deals. Enjoyed the video. Yes, I think you should put Key comic on the board. Absolutely love pre horror/horror comics. Maybe, you should get the Topix comic graded after the cleaning has been done.
I’ve never wanted a book slabbed but you should totally send that book in!
No hesitation to having it graded.
I have been a sports card collector all my life at 51 yrs young..I believe sports cards made b4 the 70’s should be graded just to be encapsulated.the comics I feel should also the same way.i know people still want to read them ,but a book like that if it isn’t already available digital maybe cgc should do that b4 they encapsulation.just food for thought
Cool Golden Age, that Topix comic is nice
I love your videos. With that Topix. U gotta get it graded!
Go for the record bro! Send that Topix comic in!
Nice pick ups I've never seen that topix before I think it would be pretty cool to get it graded to have the highest grade of a specific book out there especially that old nice finds
thanks for sharing, see you later, Mike
I think you should get it graded. Those little accomplishments are worth it. I am a Punisher fan and enjoy his cameo on this episode.
Good evening Michael It is very interesting to Travels, your great finds. We Australians have to try much harder to find comics in what was a market supplied mainly from News stands or Newsagents as we called them. One more comment on Chris Claremont, an John Carter Warlord of Mars. I think he must have been a great Fan of Edgar Rice Burroughs as I was. A whole new world of collecting. Neal Adams had a great run paperback covers, which you no doubt know, Many thanks for the great content.
Nice Golden Age goodness you picked up. I would paid same for the Key Comic, just for the age and cover alone.
Great looking books 👍
I’ve started collecting those Walter Lantz New Funnies over the past few months. Definite would have snatched that one!
Congrats on The Key. You had me worried when you pulled it out. 😆. You proved you have the comic book instinct because I bought my 2.0 copy for $30. My 5.0 costs $60.. I think you should put it up on your shelf because the cover is super cool. Also, good scors on the Topix. The early issues are the ones collectors go for.
Congrats on the pre-code horror pick up! I’m a huge fan because it’s history. It tells a story of a time before comics became regulated. Pretty insane considering what is shown in art today. That cover is iconic and would look great displayed proudly behind you. Fantastic hunt and video, Mike!

That's awesome! You dhould definitely get that Golden Age book graded!
Key Comics #3 is a "key" comic 🤣
Really like this channel. It was a nice flash back to my childhood when you were flipping though and browsing, and came across that Fantastic Four House of Horrors mini book. I used to read that as a kid all the time. I literally flashed back to hanging in my bedroom around 9 or 10 years old and reading that over and over. Made me decide that I would like to track that book down now. Thanks for the good content. Cheers.
Hey I’m a new subscriber and I’m also from CT, and I’m new to collecting comics.
Finally landed a pre-code book couple weeks back its a true crime early 40s .then found a street sharks 1 at a flea market first raw copy ive seen anywhere . I've got some of those older daredevils im not super attached to.
That Topix Comic is awesome! Unless you think it’s worth grading then do it. Me personally, I wouldn’t.
I could feel the cold through my monitor Mike, but as the saying goes, "Neither rain nor hail nor sleet shall keep the avid comic collector away from the flea market". Or something like that. The Jester was a regular DD villain for a long time, though I don't know what happened to him; I don't recall seeing him post-Bronze Age. Key #3: I'd pay $25 for that copy but that's about as high as I'd go; however, the important thing is whether the stories are complete - if the missing pages don't affect the stories then to me the comic has substantially more value than it would if stories are incomplete. Topix Comics #9: it sure does have a vibrantly coloured cover; these Catechetical Guild books must have a niche market somewhere. But if it was me, I'd get it graded to preserve it for the future, and having the highest graded issue in the CGC census would be a real thrill. Incidentally, Topix Comics were reprinted here in Australia but they didn't start until 1954; some issues included competitions and there seems to be the occasional locally produced story mixed with the US originals. As always Mike, a great video with lots of interesting comics.

Always love the comments Charlie! I hope you are enjoying summer down there while I freeze up here looking for comics! (Not knocking winter, I actually love the cold)
Hard to turn down PCH books. They are very unique. If you catch another habit it might as well be PCH!😂 It’s all about the covers….
I would definitely send that book to CGC after you get it cleaned. If nothing else you could flip it and make a couple hundred bucks.
The Punisher comic interesting fact… The cover artist drew Frank Castle with “6” fingers. Count them there are 5-showing and the thumb behind the gun. Yikes!
Lovely haul! Finding any golden age comics in the wild in UK is almost unheard of, so I'm a little envious! I'm pretty sure we see the edge of the Wham-O Giant Comic at around 2:24. That is quite an interesting oddity itself.
Cool beans, yes get it graded!
Great haul my friend. I love finding comics at flea markets. Those golden age books are pretty sweet. I love finding things like that because they are unique.
That Detective Comic is a sick cover I love DC, especially Batman. Now is the time to collect DC keys and Covers. My goal this year is I want to collect some Neal Adams Batman covers. There is a local comic show coming up at the Knights of Columbus center by me. I'm going to go and see if I can pick up some great Bronze books.
Send it in it’s an aspect of trading that didn’t when we were kids take advantage.
Every time I see that Punisher cover always wonder why he has a bazooka lol seems a little over kill lol

Cool book, congrats!
You should get the Topix Graded. The Key comic has a cool cover.
Funny thing was i was thinking of getting a DD 18 today. It has detached page and cut outs. You can tell a kid wanted pics of DD but it is the first Gladiator. Hmm...its tempting 🤔
I love those golden age books, you should definitely get Topix graded though! Just for the bragging rights if nothing else.
I want that " Buck Duck".
Get the golden age book graded and keep it as part of your collection.
Can’t believe you passed up those ROMs!

Haha, I thought about them!
Plus had to get there and back
Nice to see a younger audience appreciating Golden Age books in any grade now! They are all so scarce compared to post '66 comics.
I would have taken a second look at the book with Ms. Marvel on the cover.
I've got Daredevil 12 coming in pretty soon, and that will complete the run,, just missing #1.
I think you should get it graded.
I had a Captain Action figure as a kid as well as the Spider-Man and Batman costumes. What remains of the costumes isn’t much but they make me smile when I stumble across them while rummaging in my basement. Maybe I would have taken better care of them had I known the value they could fetch later in life (as seen in your footage around the 3:10 mark). But I got a lot of enjoyment playing with them many moons ago. Thanks for the quick walk down memory lane for me.
Very nice. It's always cool when you find older Golden Age books! Definitely get it cleaned and pressed and graded. Good look, and let us know how it turns out
I'd say send the Topix Comics off to Comic Spa and then post it on the CGC forums to see what they say. Anything higher than a 5.5, you win!

Great pick ups . love that Punisher run
Liked the haul. You got the 6-fingered Punished issue (see cover) and what looks like an early Joker appearance in Key Comics.😄😄
Hey I love your channel! I’ve been binge watching for the last two weeks or so lol. So I was wondering if you have an Ollie’s Bargain Outlet near you and if you do sometimes they have comic packs for like $6 each and they usually have some 90’s stuff in those packs. They usually have like 10 comics in the packs. Well anyway happy hunting and can’t wait for the next video!

Hey thanks so much for watching the videos! I don’t know of any Ollie’s near me, they aren’t very popular in New England… and a quick search says there are 2, so if I find myself near one I’ll check it out, thanks!
Me personally, I’m happy reading online if it means I can get a book I love with a nice cover and great price. I missed out on an FF#52 for 100 bucks, it was cover only but a nice one in a cgc case. I wasn’t there when the bid ended, but totally would’ve paid more for that
First off thank you for not including background music. It made me feel that I was there. A nice haul of books you picked up. I definitely would have picked up that Fantastic Four Big Little book. I always buy them when I find them. That particular one looked like the first print as well. That KEY COMICS comic book cover resembles the splash page to the first Joker story from BATMAN #1 (1940) from the Golden Age. The cover character does the same looking over the shoulder look as the Joker and the art looks very similar. A good video overall.
I worked in silk screen printing and also offset printing, two and four color printing when I was young. The POWDER you are referring to may be the corn starch product that was used to keep ink from and stock from sticking together. At one shop that I worked at the corn starch was all over the rafters. It created a charge, static I guess when we tried to vaccuum it up and I would get shocked. So the powder always sat on the rafters and we dare not touch it because it would fall into the press. It looked like snow or baby powder. It was a type of corn starch.
Glad your gonna give DC some love👍. And it wasn't just Batman that had a kid sidekick, marvel did the same with Capt and bucky.
You find such cool stuff, I wish our yard sales up here in Canada were as good
Definitely get it graded.
My man, you missed a copy of Wham-o Giant Comics #1 (I saw the corner of the book at the very beginning of the video) This is an awesome comic with Wally Wood art also the largest american comic produced (I believe)!

I definitely looked at it! I had to cut the footage because the guy selling it was swearing like a sailor. I don’t remember how much it was but he was asking quite a bit.
Fantastic books!
Definitely voting for the CGC treatment for that GA book. Finding a high-grade GA book is amazing but finding one that’s likely to be the highest grade recorded… now that’s worth capturing (in a plastic case).
Nice 👍
Great video once again, great to see you reading more DC (I'm a big DC guy myself)
Love your T-Shirt. Great motive. Thank you for another very entertaining flea market video. I would have not have bought an incomplete book. Not for 125,00 and not for 25,00. A book can be in really rough condition but it has to be complete. It is hard enough to get a spare cover if it is missing from a book but where do you get missing story pages if they are missing? I would have invested the 25,00 in a book you really do collect.

Thanks for the candid comment. I actually agree with you, I’ll just chalk this one up to “book to talk about on KZread” or “cool wallpaper”. It does make me want to track down a complete one though…

I went to a Flea Market in South Hadley ,Mass and found some nice comix worth 65 to 74 bucks for a couple of dollars some vendors have no clue what they have they just want to get rid of it i even bought 1st appearance of Spider woman for 1 dollar!!!!

@@lucas8095 oh gotcha, the Hadley Flea Market. Yea that was my main flea market until it closed, I was there every weekend! Very excited it’s coming back, I’ll probably try to sell there a few times as well!
Over the past year, I’ve been loading up on 50s Dells. Mid-grade copies can be really cheap (under $10), depending on the series. I really wanted to get a look at the box with old Atlas books too (I saw a Buck Duck #4, which is really pricey on eBay right now). That Topix looks really great; the cover art looks almost like Jack Kirby art. Those comics (like Topix and Treasure Chest) were directed toward kids in Catholic schools.
From this video we are similar in collecting. I am a Marvel man with little DC. Golden age is a hard one for me because of the price, condition, and interest in the comic content. Plus the money I would spend on a Golden I could put into other books. I look forward to your finds, maybe I will expand my collection
I’m from RI going to hit those markets up this spring when the weather is nice. Going to have to follow you around and spy on you and offer .25 more per book mwahhhhhhhh
I am glad you double check the Key before to dropped 125 bucks on it, 25 is definitely fair! I would wait a little for more Topix Comics to be on the census before getting it graded. You certainly want to make sure if the book will bring high value. Regardless of the value it’s an awesome book to have in your pc. Both books are definitely wall worthy!
Definitely send Topix Comic to be graded for bragging rights..lol

the only books that should be slabbed is golden age books and silver age books that are giant books. slabbing immensely helps the preservation of the book so IMO
Enjoyed the video… had to comment on the price of those marbles. As someone that appreciates a good marble (I still have the ones I had as a kid) at $1.00 a piece 6 for $5 seems pretty ridiculous I know inflation is high but I didn’t think glass was becoming scarce. I was thinking one day I would sell this junk for a yard sale but I don’t think I could ask that much. Anyway on a serious note Happy New Year.

Sure it does! Batman is not beyond reproach, comic characters should be flawed as are people in real life.
I can't imagine a Christian comic would have any value to a collector. That sort of stuff was considered to be "religion" and nobody wanted it. That is probably why it wasn't read. Outside of a church crowd, it was just religious material and people would avoid it as they would a real church. It's like finding a religious track, it's evangelism. People find it disturbing, or some people do, and even if they don't mind it, they don't crave it like a secular comic book. Religious comics are for MORAL instruction, the same as reading the bible. But you did say the book was all over the place.

Are you keep kidding ? All of those reasons would make it more scarce and more collectible.
