Hunting for Comics at NINE Flea Markets in ONE Day… but can I find ANYTHING Good?!

I head to the Flea Market Mile in southwestern New Hampshire, certain that I will find at least SOME comic books worth buying… but after checking 9 different places, do I find ANYTHING worth bringing home, or do I have to rely on the Local Comic Stores in the area to salvage my day?

Those Nintendo Powers were paramount to my childhood friends and myself finding success in video games, plus the art was always amazing! Can't win them all Mike, this was a great example of how things don't always go as you'd hoped, OR, your secrets is out in the greater New England area lol. Awesome pick-ups regardless. I'm glad the Annie comics were shared with your daughter, I hope to have that experience in the future too. Fantastic video my friend!

Thrill of the hunt! I have used these words for years! Took your advice - looked for comics in odd places. A local antique shop had a box of comics at the back of the shop. Thumbed the boxes and.... X-Men 4 and 5 - Omega Red! Make sure you read Man of Steel miniseries first.

I think this is a great public service announcement. There will be times you'll hit something great, but there will also be many times you won't really find anything. It's a great way to tell people to temper expectations when you go out looking for these paper treasures - that way they'll be pleasantly surprised when they do find something nice. Nice hit on the MTU #53 - a very under-rated book in my opinion!

100% agree. It's the thrill of the hunt. I have a number of antique stores in my area but frequently fail to find much of anything, but my wife and I were in a different part of the state this weekend. Found an antique store there where I made some solid finds: ASM 298 and 299, Booster Gold 1 and several (non-key) SA Flash issues, and still left some good stuff behind too. Going to keep that place in the back of my mind.

Absolutley loved this one as well Mike! Even though you Kinda struck out 9 times at 9 different locations, you still kept going and you said something else that struck with me as well! And I finally realized why I am drawn to YOUR videos and probably why everyone else is as well..... You said: "It's the THRILL of the HUNT" that keeps you going and driving you to continue HUNTING for that next BEST comic!!! THAT is exactley what I tell peopel on why I buy and sell comics!!! It's the THRILL of the HUNT!!! AND I completely appreaciate the vieo showing getting "skunked" because that is the reality of how it goes a lot of times! My luck here in MN & WI is about 40% Good and 60% bad, but I try to get out and HUNT at least 3-4 times each month (about once a week)! Keep up the good work and continue "Hunting" for comics in Strange and Unsual places!!! Thank You

Location 1: Shatter is worth having in the PC simply because it's the first computer-created comic, an oddity from a time when everything was still hand-drawn and inked. The Byrne Superman run is great fun, well worth reading. Your experience is very much my experience too, very few hits and lots of misses. However there are few outlets for old comics in Australia - there used to be a second-hand book store every few suburbs in the big cities but they're long gone now. The odd antiques store in country towns might have a few comics and paperbacks but they're often in poor condition. It's a bit of desert for comics now.

I just took a trip to Chattanooga yesterday (4/3) to have a very similar experience to what you filmed for this video. There was an area in town with seven or eight shops (a few were closed) and I struck out at each one. Three of five shops did have comics, but two of the shops had junk, and the third had a stack locked up that looked to be far overpriced. I stopped at three additional locations, and only found some books at the last stop. The last stop was the Chattanooga location of McKay's, which is a local chain of used books, electronics, music, etc. I'm glad you and your son enjoyed Strange Academy, it is one of my favorite ongoing series. Excelsior!

But you telling us about your daughter loving the movie and being so excited about you buying it was really great. Not sure what the prices were at that one location, but I would have picked up all the Archie books if they were priced decently. I did notice a copy of Wolverine 50 at location 10. It's a minor key that has gone up in the last few years. Great video, Mike! I always feel that your worst day hunting comics is better than your best day at work.

Not that I'm not interested in older rare books, but they are usually smelly, I feel like I shouldn't be opening or reading them, they are old, ratty and crusty most the time, and the worst is they are usually expensive. I like new comics too so I usually end up happy on my trips, I just avoid the expensive stuff. Under 10 bucks is my limit, I'll find some other way to enjoy the content if need be on the expensive ones.

I’m sorry to hear you don’t have places like this. I definitely live in a great area for this sort of stuff and I’ll probably never run out of places as long as I’m willing to travel and drive a bit (which I love doing). Hopefully you can find places like this when you travel, otherwise I’m happy to keep making videos and to give you and others a taste of New England comic hunting

"Nothing good in that place"? Did you not see the Lensman comic? And $20 for that whole stack in the seventh place? A handful in that stack would make the whole thing worthwhile.

I did see it but a better way to phrase it was there was nothing in the stack that I wanted. I seriously debated going back to get the whole stack but it just didn’t speak to me and I was being too picky for my own good at that point!

@@lunchmoneycomics It really makes me wish a place like that was near me. Closest place is a flea market about 40 minutes away from me. It's a pretty big place with like three different vendors selling comics though, so it's worth the trip. Sadly, I think I picked it clean of the books I want, I'll try again in a few months or so to see if anything's changed. Also, since you seem to like D&D as well, any chance of seeing your collection of that?

@@whiterabbit75 if I can find a good way to show off my D&D collection, I’ll throw it in a video! The problem is I have so many comic videos I’m currently editing I never have time to branch out into my other hobbies. Hopefully someday!

@@lunchmoneycomics I totally get that. Incidentally, what edition? My group is currently doing 1e Pathfinder (we call it DnD 3.75), but my favorite edition has to 2e.

@@whiterabbit75 I’ve played every edition except 4. Currently I play 5 with my son but spent years on 3.5
