Quick way to tell 1st printing on MGN4 is the first print only has the $4.95 price on the top. All Later printings have the Canadian price next to the US price

Great info, thanks!
The New Mutants graphic novel is a unique book. It is the ONLY 1980's Marvel comic where there is a Canadian price variant (with $5.95 cover price) but no UPC bar code. All other CPV books have the newsstand bar code. And yes, the $5.95 cover is the FIRST PRINT in Canada.

As a shorter statured man I live by always remembering to check top shelves 😂😂 especially when comic book hunting
Beautiful ice sculptures; my favourite is the frozen fireplace and best humour award goes to Lettuce Rejoice. The sixth print of the New Mutants graphic novel is the most valuable, with its Adam Hughes cover. Avengers #185 is also significant because it's packed with Marvel's best from the late Bronze Age: Mark Gruenwald, Steven Grant and David Michelinie all contribute to the story, John Byrne and Dan Green do the art and scripter Roger Slifer pitches in with the colours. An amazing roll call of talent. Congratulations on buying the slabbed Showcase, my book of choice out of all your purchases. It will definitely hold its value and likely appreciate over the years, which is great if you ever want to sell it to get a higher-graded copy. As a follow-on you could look at buying The Spectre's 1967 series, which only went for ten issues but features Neal Adams and Bernie Wrightson among its artists.

Anytime Jeff!
Regarding those polybags, when they came out, I thought it was a waste to not be able to read the comic just to preserve its value. So what I did was take an X-Acto knife and carefully cut off the bottom or top seal, taking care to cut as little as possible, remove the comic and whatever premium insert it had (card, poster, armband, etc), and put the premium and the poly bag on the reverse side of the comic bag and board. So now, I have all the parts, and none of the negatives of keeping it in the bag (minus the drop in value). Also, I heard that the plastic in those poly bags was really cheap and high in acid content, so they turn the comic paper yellow really quick. I understand wanting to keep them as close to manufacturing quality as possible, but when the packaging is helping to deteriorate the product, it's just silly to do so.
Hands down the Showcase Spectre book! A great deal and pretty tough in high grade. It's always great when you're able to find a book you really want - even better when you get it at a good price!
Spider-Woman is my favorite pickup. I'm also hunting for 1st appearance of Xmen related characters. Didn't know that was her 1st appearance.
Great score on that Showcase book! Great deal...
Another great video mike Putnam is a great little town I go there every other week to pick up books at wonderland I occasionally go to Jeremiah
Crazy you cover where I grew up and also where I live now 😅
Excellent finds. Think that finding something that you really want makes it soooo much better when you finally get it.
Hunting in a pack now Mike 😂 Always entertaining & informative. Nice to see your new addition Showcase #60 ‘The Spectre’, a comic I have & bought new in ‘66. Keep posting.
That Showcase 60 is spectacular and you got it for a steal! I just picked up a CGC 6.5 copy for $200 and that was a great deal.

My graded Showcase 60 in a 6.0 cost $160. So you did very well.
My favorite was the new X-Men. I like the bigger books and not everybody kept them. So which means you can find a nice one it shows better than anybody else's LOL or higher grade and more money if that's what you do. I have some I want to keep and some selling to keep the ones I have and get others LOL
Very nice books, saw those Mad magazines briefly

While standing in line to meet Chris Claremont several years back, the man in front of me presented the graphic novel of New Mutants to him to be signed. Mr Claremont looked aggravated and flipped thru the book and asked the man where he got it from. He had bought it at one of the vendor booths. When the man asked him if something was wrong, Claremont responded yeah something is wrong, I didnt get paid for this. I have always wondered if anything came of it, if he was mistaken, or what.

Okay, that Scarlet Witch edit was hysterical! I literally did a spit take 😂 I’m stoked to see you pick up a nice copy of House of X 1! Hickman’s X-Men is what turned me on to the characters…I didn’t grow up reading them so only had a bit of knowledge from the animated shows and the movies. But I fell in love with the Krakoan age, which ended up basically turning me on to the rest of the X-Men series. I’ve managed to get a pretty decent start into 94-300 of Uncanny, and have a pretty good chunk of the 90’s series too. I pretty much entirely focus on X-Men comics when I’m hunting these days, and it’s all because I fell in love with the Hickman stories.

I'm glad you are giving DC some love, Mike. That is a real sharp looking copy of Showcase featuring The Spectre.
I believe that Lilith's 1st Full Appearance is in Ghost Rider #28 instead of Ghost Rider Spirits of Vengeance #1. I know they both came out in August 1992, but the #28 sells for alot more than GR #1. Let me know if you agree or if I'm wrong

Hey Mike, great books! I'm looking for a New Mutants GN as well. One small correction, if I may, All the New Mutants made their FA in the GN with the exception of Karma. Her first appearance was in Marvel Team-up #100. I didn't realize that Siryn's FA was in a Spider-Woman book - neat!

Definitely the Showcase Spectre. I never was big into the character, but that is a gorgeous book. I saw a copy of it on the wall of my lcbs a day or so after I watched your video when you bought your first copy. If I had the money at the time, I probably would've picked it up after seeing it on LMC.
It's really hard to pick a favorite out of this batch, but I think I'm going to have to choose that issue of The Spectre. He's one of my favorite characters who hasn't been utilized to his full potential. Great haul, Mike!
Hey Mike - Really enjoy your channel - probably because I have the same interest in X-men! I started collecting again (only on a casual basis) but love looking for comics in flea markets and other places as well. I meant to comment when you were looking for X-men 133. Had a copy. Could you do a short video on that New Mutants graphic novel. You said it was from the early 80's, maybe you said 1982? I've never seen a comic book/graphic novel in that wide format. I've never seen a bag and board that wide. So the interior of the book is in color? The closest that I have seen to this is maybe the black and white Planet of the Apes magazines. I think they made a Conan book as well. Marvel had several books in that magazine format but they were in black and white. I've never seen a book like your New Mutants Graphic Novel. I think this format is worthy of a video. If I saw this book on Ebay I would have the same questions, "What is that?". I've never seen a graphic novel from that time period.
