You can paint the totes or get covers for them. No more algae. They will also last a lot longer not being exposed to UV light.

You cqn get black ones (thin layer black plastic bonded to normal clear) and galv steel enclosed ones too. Need to seal all light though, so tape or flash around lid and tap hole.

I had to clean some with acrylic paint residue. Major PITA. Got it done though.

I have a 275 gal IBC tote for water storage, what mix ratio would I need of Calcium Hypochlorite? Thanks

Have you ever cleaned pesticides out of a tank? I just got a couple and i want to use them for chicken water.

I have only cleaned out food use totes that contained peanut oil, sunflower oil, etc. I’d probably make sure I knew what type of pesticide they contained then research which detergents would best break it down.

@@rudijones it appears that tons of dawn dish detergent, then a good rinse, then baking soda, and another good rinse. It was cleaned out before I picked it up and I don't smell pesticides at all so it will try the dawn recipe.

Out of curiosity, why don't you use the IBC totes to hold sap? That's what we use here.

Vinegar is not the best disinfectant. I’m trying to kill any trace of bacteria and algae in the tanks. Bleach is cheap and works much better.

How much bleach to disinfect a 275 gal tote?

Use a spray bottle to coat all the interior surfaces and let sit for 15-20 mins

It what I use to sanitize my tap lines after season. The calcium hypochlorite degrades to just calcium instead of salt which sodium hypochlorite degrades to which the squirrels like.

@@rudijones ahh, I didn’t know that squirrels like the salt. Great to know. I own my own pressure washing and soft washing business and I use sodium hypochlorite…. Now, what I’d like to know is of any other advantage of calcium hypochlorite over sodium hypochlorite, if you notice anything.

@@malachibergman902 I don’t notice any real difference between the two other than calcium. Hypochlorite is easier to come by in bulk as it is used for pool cleaning.

@@malachibergman902 the granular form of calcium hypochlorite has a much longer shelflife as well
