Thanks Big Dog. I will clean my recently purchased tote per instructions in your video. Had no clue on proper way to do it till now.

2,000 liters of water to clean a tank is expensive and time consuming. I used a gallon of ordinary household bleach and a high pressure hose. But then the harvested rainwater collected from roof gutters is only for watering plants. I live on a tropical island with very little rainfall. Our water bill is now 50% less from two tanks. The water (Can) also be used for laundry.)

Only problem is that bleach (aka chlorine) degrades plastics. Itll make the plastic or polypropolene brittle and itll fail way faster. Also, chlorine is absorbed by the body on contact. If you use that water on a food garden the chlorine may kill the plants. At a minimum the chlorine will get into the cells of your vegetables.

I got mine from a bakery used to be filled with honey , so mine are food grade/food safe .

All the wood chopping reminded me of Mine Craft video game.

Will dawn work on a sticky residue in one of these?

Brutha I got similar issue with 200 ltrs drums got some chems still in mine so gonna use your formula.. Nice n basic use disheashing eco version then drain then add baking soda after to nuetraljse... What chemicals were in yours by the way? Mine got peroxide chems in them as they came from Laundromat but I so want to belive that if I give good Inside Scrub of these bins and then add baking soda that I'm on the way to utilising for water storage afters... Just after second opinion actually one brutha to anutha.. Lol

Have you ever tried a Freedom IBC Liner? So much easier and guaranteed interior surface.

Cost the same as the Tote, no way!

When you say drinking water you mean you would actually drink or have your kids drink of that? How safe do you feel on that cleaning. Thanks.

If you are drinking out of an IBC tote when you have running water there is something wrong, If you are drinking out of it because there is no water well then take your chances, 72 hrs comes pretty quick.

Yeah you clean the totes out and filter it. It also depends on what was stored in them most have labels to tell you what was stored in them

If I lived in Detroit I think I’d take my chances with the ibc caught rain water before the city’s “leaded” version. Tap water isn’t always safe water.

Someone gave me a tote for my baby goats a house. I didn’t know until after that it had contained Chlorinated liquid CIP. Can this be cleaned and used for a goat house without harm?

you are using a non food grade tote for drinking water?

I wouldn't drink from any food grade tank! Think about the dirty roof and all the bacteria! What creatures rats, mice and bugs carry, you don't wanna know! And when you get kidney failure it'll be too late.) ):
