Sunjoe Battery Powered Cordless 24v x 2 Dethatcher Scarifier
Time to cut the cord. WATCH TO THE END This is SunJoe’s new battery powered dethatcher scarifier. Now, I am pretty new to this lineup of lawn equipment and I had my first opportunity to use the corded version of it about two weeks ago. While the machine definitely has a use for DIY lawn care, I would say that it is a fairly specialized piece of equipment and is likely only to get used to couple of times a year.
The biggest drawback of the corded version is obviously the extension cord. Nothing gets in the way of all of the work that you’re trying to do like a long extension cord. You’ll obviously be limited for distance you can travel and it is very easy to yank that thing out of the socket. The new 24 V x2 DeThatcher Scarifier addresses those problems. The unit is small and lightweight and I would say it is actually more easily adjustable then the corded version.
The big concern for everybody when switching from corded and continuous power to battery is how long will it last? I took the two fully charged batteries and ran over my neighbor’s lawn four times in different directions before the batteries finally ran out. SunJoe says it will get about 20 minutes of continuous operating time per charge. The batteries themselves take two hours to fully recharge.
In this amount of time you can cover a fair amount of ground, Think about how much you can mow in 20 minutes, then you’ll have a pretty good idea of what you’re going to get out of this machine.
The cartridges are very simple to change on the fly with this new setup. Putting together the machine only took about six or seven minutes as there really isn’t a whole lot to do. Batteries come partially charged and need to spend a little bit of time on the charger before you go out and run the machine.

I have a corded Sunjoe and love it. What a lot of people don't realize is that you should be using a 14 gage extension cord if it's under 50ft. If you use a cord over 50ft Sunjoe says it should be a 12 gage cord. If you price a 100ft 12 gage cord at Home Depot you will pay $70 to $100. Now your corded Sunjoe cost you $225.00 if you don't already own a 100ft 12 gage cord. Most people probably don't have a 12 gage extension cord or don't know what gage the extension cord is that they have. Most people are going to need that 100ft cord or 2 50ft cords to do their whole lawn. So the point is, for $25 more you can cut the cord and not have to deal with it anymore!

Cut The Cord! these machines have been so impressive and have taken the DIY market by storm over the last 2 years. I tried to get one last year and it was basically impossible to obtain without paying way over MSRP. When I did finally find one, they sent me the SunJoe e-mower lol.

Cut the cord! That’s all I’ve been waiting on to get a Sunjoe..... I can remember making fun of my dad who had the weedeater on a cord when I was a kid. I just have not been able to bring myself to buying one of these and have someone make fun of me, like maybe my son who at 3 can work an iPad. Lawn equipment on a cord would be mind blowing to him😳🤯. I knew 2021 was gonna be better than 2020 at some point.

I have been trying to slowly cut the cord as the budget allows. Both battery and gas OPE. I have been wanting to get the Sun Joe. But I didn't want another corded piece of equipment. This cordless version would do an amazing job for my 2.5k yard. And I believe that it will help my neighbors lawns come Fall time when I will be helping them with over seeding and renovations. Darn I'm sad I messed it. I just found out the cordless version and put in KZread search and your video popped up. Thanks for the review. I will be purchasing one before the summer is over. So I will be prepared for next spring.

@@Lawncology I have been using the Groundskeeper II rake. Does OK I guess, but tends to rip out good viable roots when I use it. Doesn't look like this machine has that problem... but it may be user error on my part with the rake. Cheers.
