Verticutting mine in the am! Got a hack for you, Ego by default lowest cut is 1 1/4 inch. I added a 1/8 washer between the blade and body and am at 3/4 in. One day I’ll be able to afford a reel mower!

I have scarified/verticut a few times now since I have my lawns, and it not always look nice. But I actually think the process is only revealing the state of your lawn. Good lawn will stay good and get better, bad lawns will be exposed and take quite the time to get better😁I already verticut by hand in a few areas and they just improve. I think I'm going to do the whole thing later.

Pioneers go beyond what is considered to be the norm. I typically verticut in the fall. I do like the idea of doing more frequently. Now that I see the results, I'll add that to my routine. Maybe start doing it quarterly instead of annually. Good video Brah

I think the hudson star is a quality piece, but the blade speed from the two set of chain drives really helps. those blades spin so fast. the rear drum is nice too. a shame there's nothing similar. I just don't think I can do the low cut, I want to stay 1.5in or higher and I don't think the hudson can do that.

Let me double check something cause the extender blocks make it cut higher.......... Yup extender blocks make the HOC 1.725" 🔥🔥🔥 That might be worth looking into! I have the extender blocks and 8 -blade I just need to install and review 😊🤙🏾

What’s your opinion yardbrah on using the blades vs tines on the heighest setting. I know the tines would cut but as there is more of them I didn’t know if would pull up the lateral grove to then cut with the mower ?

You know for me the blades are literally vertically cutting as opposed to power raking with the tines… in my opinion it makes sense to use the tines to rake up the longer strands but the problem I’m seeing is tines are going to aggressively rake the grass up… I’ll give it a shot and see the difference between the two on passes next to each other 😊👊🏾🤙🏾

This video pushed me over the edge and I wound up doing a 1-pass dethatching of my yard 7 days ago. I do not have a verticutting cartridge but I was getting really tired of seeing water pool up during drought water preservation sessions. The previous owners never did a dethatching so I came away with several hundred pounds of dead stuff out of the yard. Yep, the yard looked like junk after but I timed it just right with a week of lower temps, rain, and additional products beyond what I had already been using and daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaamn that deep green lawn is coming back all sorts of lusher than it was before! Thank you!

I have that same model. I’ve never tried tried scarifying at the highest setting before. Right now it’s been pretty dry out, but my yard is pretty shaded and my lawn is one of the greenest on the block. Is there anytime you wouldn’t want to do that? I could scarifying before I fertilize every 6 weeks. I plan to over seed in fall and I will probably do about three passes at that time going quite a bit lower.

@@YardBrah I'll give it a try. it does seem to help my grass come together. I always take the thatch and put it into some compost bins. It turns back to dirt and then I use it to top dress and over-seed. The compost I get out of it is great quality.

What height is the highest setting? Sun Joe is not available here in the UK - I'm considering two Hyundai machines one is +10mm and the other +4mm on the highest settings.

😂🤙🏾 every cool season grass imaginable is in the lawn but the most recent overseed was perennial rye and Kentucky blue 😊🤙🏾

What grass type do you currently have ? I had Kentucky Bluegrass then RTF now I am not happy with RTF and plan to go back to Kentucky Bluegrass this fall

You know I bought corded scarifier/deth years ago then gave it away after buying batter operated like yours and only ran in it the spring and the fall, maybe I was not running it enough ? I also have one of those manual aerators just like yours that I sometimes use in the fall. I bought a aerator wheel that goes on lawnmower which was a rip off waste of money 💰

If you aren’t able to vericut every month and have never done it, should you start with the power rake/dethatcher?

Yeah go for it! You’re gonna have a ton of material rake it all up mow it then fertilize and water water water! It’s hot right now so it’s a little risky to dethatch but if you set it high you might be safe 😊👊🏾🤙🏾
