Lawncology: Next Level Lawns

Lawncology: Next Level Lawns

What's up everybody! Thank you for landing on my channel. I am proud to be bringing over 25 years of landscape, turf management, fertilizer and soil amendment research and development, and insider industry knowledge to this channel. As the owner of Greene County Fertilizer Company, I wanted a channel that was not directly related to my company so that I could share on more topics, answer questions about a multitude of products and concepts and be an overall resource for all you turf and landscape lovers.

Lawncology is a method of viewing our lawns, landscapes, soil, and environment as one cohesive unit. Solving problems by looking at cultural practices, rethinking old ways and transitioning to a new and responsible way of caring for our landscapes. I travel all over the country, teaching classes talking to customers, getting stories on how they grow their businesses, walking lawns, visiting shows and showcasing businesses that have adopted these methods.

If you plant anything there in the mulch it'll die from root-rot or fungus. Most Weedblock breathes and allows water to flow through. It'll get stinky too. Also, weedblock doesn't keep weeds from growing, it keeps them from rooting in the soil so it's easier to pull them.

An ornamental bed pre emergent (sureguard, isoxaben, Ron star, specticle) for first 2 or 3 seasons would’ve done better. Something about putting more plastic in the ground doesn’t feel right with all the talks of pfas and forever chemicals lately. Remember folks, what goes in the ground will one day go in a plant, which will one day continue its way down the food chain.

I like to use moderate weave burlap sacks, like old bags for 50lb of coffee. Some big box stores sell them for cheap. The material is natural, so will eventually break down and not leave plastic. It also doesnt block drainage or insects. Love the shot here. Beautiful place youve got

If you never intend to plant anything there, that works. If you use rubber mulch, that works. If you use wood chips for mulch, and you intend to plant things there, that’s not a good idea; the decomposing mulch will have organic material that the soil would benefit from, but the plastic blocks that organic material from getting to the soil. The plastic could also hinder water drainage.

I have a 430 X and 2500 square meters of grass with lots of trees and walkways and a little hilly. For three years it has taken care of the grass and absolutely fantastic without any problems whatsoever. Definitely the best investment I've made and worth every penny. But it's clear that if you skimp and buy something that isn't made for the square footage you have, it won't work!

Agreed! I will say that Battery technology has come a long way Ever since the demand for the Electric push, BUT as far as my landscaping experience goes -- Nothing is catching up to the I.C.E. at least not yet. I use a Reel mower and not a Rotary mower so my options are very limited.

I’ve got to get some! I take care of my elderly neighbor’s yard and her sprinkler system is busted. Not sure if it’s a money thing or what but she won’t fix it and I don’t want to be too pushy about it. Something like this will go a long way when we get almost no rain for the rest of the summer. What’s the difference between Hydr8 and something like Hydretain? I’d rather support your company so I’m going to do Hydr8 for sure but just curious about the major differences.
