We also have a lot of progress we need to share with you. Our DIY boatbuild is starting to come together. We've got a lot to show you with the wood burner, woodwork, and even plumbing! Hope you enjoy!

ABOUT US
We're Jack and Gabby. Since 2019 we've lived an alternative lifestyle travelling the canals of the UK.
Truthfully, we had wanted to find a slower, more simplistic way of life for a while. But, it was a shock redundancy that gave us the final push. We stumbled across boatlife and haven't looked back since.
Living on a narrowboat is not without its challenges. For example, the lifestyle is fully off-grid so we have to manage our resources such as power and water. For us though, boatlife has provided that 'real' life that we were desperately craving.
If you enjoy this video, we'd love for you to see our other vlogs. We have a playlist of each episode in order here:

Thank you for watching this week's video! Have you given paddleboarding a try before? How did you find it? Jack absolutely loved it, it's so mindful! If you want to discover the new board from Bluefin that we were kindly gifted, the link is here: tinyurl.com/bluefinsup Hope you enjoyed our latest episode 🙂 Jack + Gabby xx
When we went camping we had a small privacy tent just big enough to shower. We used a garden water can. Soaped up and then rinsed worked well

Looks like great fun! You did a good job with the paddle board. Is Gabby going to try it? You might have an easier time with your remodel if you concentrate on one section at a time? But I understand, I have several projects going at the same time too. It must be wonderful to live in such a great community! Your neighbors are so kind. I think I would use no-rinse shampoo and body wash for when it's too cold to bathe outside? The very thought of it makes me shiver 🥶! As usual - another great video. Thanks! 💕
Looks like great progress, well done! I bet you can’t wait for the bath and shower to be functional - life changing!! 😊

Great tips, thank you! I tried to keep the paddle facing the right way but obviously flipped it around a few times 😂 how long have you been paddle boarding for?
You edited the best bit out! I wanted to see how you got off it. 😂

Hahaha as you can imagine I alighted with a similar grace to that of a hippo 🦛 it's actually not too bad once you get used to it, have you tried paddle boarding?
Paddle board looks great fun. Now I have never paddle boarded and have no desire to do so. But would suggest maybe keeping your feet apart as you were and put one foot forward about half a step. This should give you better stability. If things get rocky bend your knees just a bit to cushion out the swell. Have fun. 🏄🏻♂️

Completely understand it's not for everyone - but we totally love it! Thanks - luckily ther's not too many waves on the canal 😅
Hi Jack and Gabby. Well done for the improvements of getting running water. Hope that you soon get the bath up and running so that you can have a private shower 🙂 Well done for not falling in Jack. You must have a good sense of balance. Take care. Nick

We are a kayaking family. We own Creekers, Sit on tops (SOTs), Canoe Slalom kayaks (k1s n C1s) and one inflatable. I love the inflatable, but the only downside is when it is windy. You can't manoeuvre them in the wind. Strong wind will blow you in the direction it's going. I had to have my kids tow me out of trouble on a river in their kayaks. Some kids in Melbourne (Aus) were paddle boarding at the beach on inflatable paddleboards and the wind took them out to sea to a local island. So my only advice is check the weather. If it's windy, give it a miss. Other than that, inflatables have massively improved from when I was young, they pack up small, are light (compared to our SOTs) etc. I love them. Oh and can you switch the paddle blade around next time.

Yep the inflatable suits us better for storage as our roof has no space to store a solid one!! Yep will avoid using in any excessive wind!! Luckily on the canal we can't get blown too far!
Can’t believe the terrific job you’re doing & the paddle boarding looks great - you’re like a duck to water Jack! Love these videos! xx

Hi Guys. Been following you since the start. And really enjoy your vlogs. We are narrow boaters and have been for over forty years. Our present boat is 58 ft long called TickertyBoo. And have seen most things. I see you have joined the throngs of the paddleboarders And great fun they must be. But we feel we should inform you of something that might affect your health. That being the increasing amount of permanent moorers, in the middle of nowhere. The point I'm getting at is. Where do they empty their toilets? I know where they empty them............. In the blinking canal. I was out for a late evening walk along the towpath. I actually caught a guy emptying his into the cut. I never said a word. And I don't think he realized, that I saw him do it. So, You are happy going paddling in the canal? Ok, you never fell in this time. But you will. Are you happy with the thought that you could end up with a mouth full of lots of other people's sh*t? If you have any cuts and abrasions. Then you could end up with a bad infection. And a case of the serious poooo's. And why do so many boaters when using the "facilities" Not where protective gloves? I've been queuing for the facilities. And watched a female boater, arrive at the disposal point, With loo Cassette along with four large water bottles. No gloves by the way. She emptied her waste. Then proceeded to fill her water bottles. WITH NO HAND WASHING IN BETWEEN!! So, me who was next. (If I hadn't been wearing gloves) would have used the same now soiled tap handle. It makes us cringe to see this happen. So much so that we now buy our drinking water. Coz basically the canals are open sewers that the CRT doesn't give a toss about. Sorry, this turned into a rant. But don't even get me started on the great river Ouse, and the Nene. Two lovely Rivers. Crystal clear. But full of Boaters' sh*t. As the yogurt pot cruisers nearly all have toilets that empty straight out into the river. Have a great time guy. But don't go in the canal, please. Dave and Diane. NB Tickertboo xx

Hey Richard! Thank you for watching, have you ever tried paddle boarding? 🙂
On the canals do you have to pay a river license for use of one we do on the Broads where I live ?
@thistinylife
Жыл бұрын
Heya! So we have a license that we pay to the CRT and that lets us stay on the canals. If we venture on the rivers owned by the EA then we can add that on to our current licence. Do you live on a boat? 🙂
The list gets smaller each week 👍👍👍

It really does! Although I'm not sure a boat to do list ever slims down that much haha
Do you still use the board and how do you find it? Btw you're facing the paddle blade the wrong way, the blade should slope away from you. If you paddle with the angle faced towards you, you're slowed down by drag from pulling water up in a scooping motion. Hope to see more videos of you with the paddleboard :D

Hey! We do still use it, although the boat's currently having work done so we can't get to it as easily! I'm hoping to be able to do a bit of a paddleboard adventure come August as we need to make the most of the summer. Thanks for the paddling tip, getting used to using the board as a complete newbie!
