Sultans of Swing - Dire Straits - Jamie Harrison (Lesson in Description)

Музыка

Lesson Now Available here: bit.ly/3u2g6P6
The lesson includes videos on how to play this song, understanding this style of guitar playing, chords, lyrics, note for note instruction, my studio gear, my microphones, detailed info on my guitar and amp, my thoughts on tone, and tonnes more info.
Here's my version of the Dire Straits classic, Sultans of Swing. I've been asked to do a full version of this for years now, ever since people saw a random little video of me performing this song on the streets of my hometown. I wanted to stay true to the original song with the lead guitar parts, but I wanted to put my own spin on it, so I decided use a 'softer' right-hand pattern for mine since I wasn't playing this with a band, and since this is a much more natural way of playing for me. So there's some slight differences in the rhythm, and of course, I'm using a different pickup than Knopfler. So please, all you purist Knopfler superfans, don't shoot me - my guitar sounded better this way, and I'm not trying to 'be' Mark Knopfler here - this is simply just another version of the great song ;)
Enjoy it, and best of luck on the lesson if you decide to take it! :)

Anyone who is thinking of buying a lesson from Jamie, do it! I bought slow dancing in a burning room and It is the best thing that has happened to me with my guitar playing in the last 2 years, you learn so much that not only can you play the song you choose, but you can have all of the little tricks inside your guitar playing arsenal. This isn’t Jamie with a different account, just a very satisfied customer. Cheers!

Bought the Everything bundle about a week ago and this comes out! No worries I'm still making my way through Lenny and for anyone thinking of buying these lessons I do highly recommend but be prepared for the work. It really does come down to the feel and tiny details when playing this style of guitar, the notes and chords are seriously just the beginning. Jamie imitates that feel and sound so well to the likes of Srv, Hendrix, and John Mayer he teaches the techniques that these guys had been learning for decades himself included and I've realized myself that I have a long way to go and I'm extremely blessed to have the option of a man of this talent and work ethic available at my fingertips to learn from. In the midst of all this chaos regarding the coronavirus, I have to say I'm blessed to have this kind of music to entertain me. Stay safe out there from a fellow Irishman. Side note, still praying on you to do John Mayer - Ain't No Sunshine - Live at the Crossroads Guitar Festival 2010

Love the way that Jamie puts his own take on the songs he releases for his courses rather than just trying to get an exact copy of the original's sound. Fabulous playing, as always, thanks to his way of playing the songs with a eye on capturing a mood rather than just getting the technical aspect correct. For those out there thinking of buying his course bundles I can honestly say they are well worth it. Struggled with learning the guitar for years - not a natural and easily discouraged ! - but enjoying working through his courses.

@@timjx3675 Thanks man, I talk about this quite a bit in the 'Introduction' video for this song, I know he does that of course, but it's not a sound I'm a particular fan of. I wanted to replicate the song in my own arrangement, with my own sound, so that quack wasn't something I was really looking for. Don't worry, all these things are fully thought through beforehand! No stone left unturned and all that! ;) But thanks for the thought, as I say in my lesson, some people may much prefer to have that sound in their cover, depending on their setup! Thanks also for the kind words on the lessons, best of luck on this one! ;)

Yeah, unless you have a crazy pedal board, position 2 sounds pretty... iffy. Even on a custom shop I’d say.

I just looked at his site on the FAQs cause I had to know now. Looks like no. I'm an intermediate player and will be chipping away at what I got for a while though. If you're on the fence about it, I'd say the deciding factor in the end is how much you're willing to grind. Like I'll spend 30 minutes on one lick, 3 days in a row til I nail it. If you're willing to do that shit when the times come, just buy the everything bundle...it's dope. Plus I emailed the dude and he got right back to me, super cool guy.
