🎯You mentioned the greatest guitarists. I dont know many English guitar legends, but I know some American ones. Not all will fit strictly within the bounds of R&R... Mark Knopfler, Dire Straits Roger Waters, Pink Floyd David Gilmour, Pink Floyd Alex Lifeson, Rush Steve Winwood, for himself, Traffic, Blind Faith Lita Ford Joni Mitchell Malcolm Young, AC/DC Angus Young, AC/DC Vicki Peterson, the Bangles John Mellencamp Tom Petty, Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers Chris Hayes, Huey Lewis & the News Tom Cochran, Red Ryder Tom Johnston, the Doobie Brothers Tracy Chapman Hugh Burns, Gerry Rafferty Joan Jett, Joan Jett & the Blackhearts Gordon Lightfoot John Denver Glen Frey, the Eagles James Taylor Neil Schon, Journey Tommy Shaw, for himself, & Styx *EDIT:* Please do not interpret positioning on this list as ranking them. All of these people are excellent guitarists. I am not here to argue over who is better than whom! !

Love hearing your reactions to the music of my generation. Some of my kids are older than you guys, but it always interested me that they liked late 70’s/80’s rock. The Dire Straits sound was so distinctive; there’s a purity about the sound, about Knopfler’s virtuoso guitar- that grabs you. Glad you enjoyed it!

Holding Back the Years is amazing. One of my all-time favorites. Nobody sings like Mick Hucknall of Simply Red. Some great trumpet work in their too. He wrote the song when he was 17. It’s about his mother leaving when he was little and how missing her affected his childhood. Watch the original music video, not one of the live performances.

You get a shiver in the dark It's a raining in the park but meantime- South of the river you stop and you hold everything A band is blowing Dixie, double four time You feel alright when you hear the music ring Well now you step inside but you don't see too many faces Coming in out of the rain they hear the jazz go down Competition in other places Uh but the horns they blowin' that sound Way on down south Way on down south London town You check out guitar George, he knows-all the chords Mind, it's strictly rhythm he doesn't want to make it cry or sing They said an old guitar is all, he can afford When he gets up under the lights to play his thing And Harry doesn't mind, if he doesn't, make the scene He's got a daytime job, he's doing alright He can play the Honky Tonk like anything Savin' it up, for Friday night With the Sultans We're the Sultans of Swing Then a crowd a young boys they're a foolin' around in the corner Drunk and dressed in their best brown baggies and their platform soles They don't give a damn about any trumpet playin' band It ain't what they call Rock and Roll And the Sultans Yeah, the Sultans, they play Creole Creole And then the man he steps right up to the microphone And says at last just as the time bell rings "Goodnight, now it's time to go home" Then he makes it fast with one more thing "We are the Sultans We are the Sultans of Swing"

Mark Knopfler is still rated as one of the best guitarists , as I'm sure you all ready know. And there was quite the controversy over 'money for nothing' back in the day. The music vid had some really dodgy computer generated graphics that has not aged well AT ALL(and not the reason people got offended over). All of their songs are great songs and well worth a listen and even a re listen. Brilliant musicians.
