Ironically, isn't that part of the point though? After all, eldritch horror always being the spoopy monster in the dark is an antithesis to Lovecraft's work. He always strived to breathe new life into old tales and introduce twists into even his own creations. That's how the 'star vampires' emerged. So some lovecraftian games taking a complete left turn on the corner of Serious and BANANAS is in character for them if you ask me. They reinvent the genre while still sticking to some of its major conventions. This game is hilarious and weird, but also really creepy and dark if you think about it. I mean beyond all the cutsie anime humour, these characters are a) a shallow douchebag who will doom the world for a kiss at best or b) horrifying world-destroying entities at worst. So despite how amazingly funny it is, it is kind of bleak.

I can see why they simplified it for the game. 6:02 - Nyar serves and is a messenger for Azathoth, The Boundless Daemon Sultan, The Sleeping Chaos, The Blind Idiot God, The Supreme Lord and Creator of All Things, titles titles titles etc etc. _side note I cannot BELIEVE they got Lani Minella to voice Nyan. I KNEW IT! I knew I recognized that voice. Ln'eta as Michaela Laws was a good choice, but I have to give everybody a hand. This game was a blast to watch and if I had the cash and setup I'd be playing over again. The sweetness of Ln'eta on the second run was a good refresher, and the play line with marks voice and Kayli Mills was so good. I honestly hope that if they do an update that Mark is the one doing the voice for the main protagonist.

SPOILERS I don't know if it's been mentioned in the comments before (because there's *literally* over 9000 and I'm not reading all of them), but there ARE another two endings. 1- The first 'new' you get by summoning Estir in front of L'neta so they're forced to see each other and the fact you're two timing. It's an ending where you die horribly (duh!). 2- The second ending is what you get by following Aunt Nyannyan's initial request and performing the ritual to seal Muu. By doing that you seal humans and eldritch beings's realities apart... but the catch is you're on the eldritch side when it happens. So you're stuck in Nyannyan's version of your apartment for all of eternity AND she smooches you for complying.

Her ego is actually kind of funny given that Nyarlethotep himself is comparatively pretty small potatoes in the Lovecraftian mythos.

I wouldn’t say the cosmic horror itself is necessarily that good, just because obviously if this were real she would be presenting him with a lot greater horrors than knocks on the window and tentacles growing on your face. It would be like nonstop hellish torture for all eternity. But obviously it’s supposed to be lighthearted and within those boundaries it did a really good job at showcasing different cosmic horror adjacent stuff and is fantastically written overall. That’s not at all to criticize the game, it was executed perfectly, I’m just saying the cosmic horror aspect might not be what I’d say is good. But rather the parody or reference to cosmic horror concepts.

I do love how oddly accurate these Eldritch Gods are. Their likes, aesthetics, all of them are perfect for the gods they imitate. Ln’eta likes the ocean, wears loose clothing, and has tentacles. Like Cthulhu. Estir has yellow, flamboyant clothing, and enjoys subservience, wealth, and being treated as royalty. Like Hastur, the King in Yellow. And now Nyanerthotep, with her Egyptian style, perfectly clicking with Nyarlathotep’s title as “the black pharaoh”, and the Clawing Chaos. Hilarious

The main character of this game is the absolute best protagonist we could ever have. Just wants a smooch. Haunts Eldritch being's nightmares. Looked several gods in the face with no fear. What a legend.

Wanted to give some (fictional, of course) real life context to the characters in this game because i'm a huge HP Lovecraft nerd: Ln'eta is - obviously - based on Cthuhlu due to her appearance, as well as the fact that Estir is her sister and the actual King in Yellow (Hastur) is Cthuhlu's half-brother. I'll come back to Ln'eta and where I think her inspiration was drawn from in a minute, but I'll first get Nyan out of the way because her lore was the easiest to dissect. The name Nyanlathotep instantly clicked for me as being almost identical to the Outer God Nyarlathotep, who was described as appearing as an ancient Egyptian Pharaoh. Nyarlathotep is generally used as a messenger for the Outer Gods, however he is very cunning and works of his own accord to gather more followers. Moving on, one of Nyarlathotep's cousins actually ticks a lot of boxes for me in terms of Ln'eta's description and character. This Great Old God is named Mynoghra and is often called the 'She-Daemon of The Shadows'. Mynoghra is a essentially an alien succubus with tentacles for hair and she's one of the major deities worshipped by witch cults in Salem, Oregon. Another God with similarities to Ln'eta is Cthuhlu's daughter, Cthylla. The stories about Cthylla are kind of fucked up (if you're really interested, look her up for yourself) but I saw a link with her since she's a female R'lyeh with similar traits to Ln'eta. I've rambled on for long enough so I'll leave you with my final Outer God twin for Ln'eta: D'endrrah. This God was inspired by C. L. Moore's Shambleau, the illusionary Martian she-vampires of lust, and is described as being a blurry female entity of supernatural beauty who lives in an obsidian palace of thousands of mirrors to distort her appearance, which is that of a tentacled dark abyss. In summary, I fucking love this game and I adore how the devs put so much effort into basing all of the plot in actually mythos as well as making it enjoyable, funny and HOT. 10/10, would smash (smooch?) again.

Fun fact: the one that outranks Auntie Nyan Nyan is probably Azathoth. Nyan says that they would both cease to exist if Darling/Dearest/Dog met her, and that’s because, if you looked even the smallest bit into Lovecraftian Mythology, that when Azathoth wakes up from their dream, reality ends. Why? Because reality is Azathoth’s dream.

For anyone playing this: 1. Put everything on first. The mask, robe, knife, turtle, and amulet. There's no effect that requires you to _not_ wear any of those items. 2. Porosity is always first. 3. The events are not as dynamic as you would think, it's more linear. For example, you don't have to worry about something else happening while being spirited away or the mirror guy to disappear. There's no balancing or dilemmas to worry about. 4. You have more than enough time, just take it slowly 5. The text at the bottom of the screen deterministically tells you what happens. 6. With the text, you have to check the mirror after every time you chant. 7. Booba
