Nice work, this method works for me too. I charged my battery to 36 volts then I put it back in the bike, the screen shows like 20%, then I fully charged it with the original charger to 100%. FYI- when the battery was dead, I was getting an error 4 and some time error 18 when I was trying to charge the battery on my bike with the original charger. also the LED light in the charger was changing from red to green to red to green) Thanks so much.

Thanks a lot - I had run into my second error 4 situation (first one fixed with battery swap under warranty) and managed to fix it using this exact procedure. Used the same charger - my cells were only down to 2.2 V so I decided to use the straight Li-Ion program at 0.2 A and just stopped it when it reached 3V. Wires that came with the charger could only reach 3 cells so it was done in groups of 3, 3, 2 and 2. Will be very very careful not to let the battery fully discharge again!

I use 2x iMax (probably clones) to charge 36v batteries. The iMax outputs are isolated from the 12V power input so I can use a single ex-PC psu to power them both in parallel. I use the balance connections otherwise there is no point using an iMax. I also have an old Dell printer power unit that delivers ~30v and I use a buck converter set for 25v and 100ma to bring the cell string up to the minimum voltage the iMax will accept to charge as lithium - about 2v each or 20V for a 10S string like this.

Vanmoof now bankrupt like Bionx. Have you had any more bionx batteries done recently ever since you stated you’d never touch another one? Just curious as I’ve got 2 recelled batteries for my smart Ebike. One with Sony VTC6 (12Ah) and one with Sanyo GA (14Ah). Bike still works great only had one BMS explode literally (charging IC) due to my “charger” becoming faulty and sending a massive voltage spike due to blown caps. Luckily got the BMS replaced with a new one and a custom 3rd party charger to not blow up again. Lastly are Sanyo GA cells good long term like the Sony? Keep up the excellent work!

I have a noob quesstion! for power supply going into the IMAX B6 MINI, can I use the Vanmoof power supply to do this, or does it need a different kind? if so, can you recommend one? Also how good of an ides is it to try this without something like the IMAX B6 MINI? Just using the Vanmoof poer supply and connecting that straght to the battery pins and try reviving it that way if you have nothing else? Thanks for this great video I'm going to try this myself.

It is dangerous to recharge a li-ion battery which has gone too low. When the battery goes below a certain voltage (read the data sheet, usually 2.5 or 3v/cell, his are at 1.8v) the copper inside the battery starts to plate out, causing internal shorts, which can create a bad fire when recharging. At around 6:33 he mentions that the voltage is too low for the li-ion setting on the charger. This is a safety mechanism that he is bypassing. The charger is trying to prevent causing a fire in the over-discharged battery.

i have seen people "revive" batteries that has too low voltage by charging it with another battery just for a few seconds and never seen any issues , also this is why he charges very slowly and watches the temp

In the video you say you wouldn't charge below 2V but as you attempted to balance up from cells that were down to 1.7V and it appeared to work would cell groups as low as 1.3V work thats what mine have gone down too and im not sure if it's safe or worth trying.

How did you remove the battery? Through fork removal? Seat post removal? I wish for a "International Board of BMS" to dictate size, shape and power - they did it for gasoline fillers and cell batteries. All these proprietary boards and batteries are not good for the industry.

Li-Ion 36vdc lowest (LOW-CUT) should be 30vdc. Any lower, might cause the cells will stop working.

Usually you can charge the battery with the original Charger aswell. Due to lack of a labor charger I'll give it a try somewhere safe outside. I also will check it with my multimeter and just push the battery to 33-35V, put it back in and let the bike do the rest. Do you have any suggestions where to hook up the charger for the whole battery?
