This is my 4th video related to hard cold starting of my 2009 Subaru Outback. The first video when the car refused to start was posted on November 22, 2023. On our first very cold day, the engine would crank and crank... and show NO signs of trying to fire. Not a single bump.
After checking the spark plugs and wires, and doing a compression test, it seemed to be ok for a while. But when the temperature dipped below 30 degrees again, it was a nightmare trying to start the engine. It cranked and cranked and refused to fire. For some strange reason, after running the battery down a bit, it started up.
After talking to a buddy, I decided to eliminate the possibility of a dirty MAF sensor causing the problem.
After cleaning the MAF sensor, it's been starting fine at the lowest temperatures we've had this Winter.
