Now I'm curious if the water pump on my '15 Impreza is changable without taking the covers off. So is that an easier fix now?! cause that would be great. also aren't all subaru's chain driven now?

Hi dear , thanks for all good videos, When the chain jumps on this engine, do I need to get new chains or it’s ok to use old one ? And what’s the reason of chain jumping A

How do you remove the timing cover? As far as I can tell I removed all the bolts.

great tips. Always wanted to see the double chain. the passenger right rear knock sensor first appeared in 1985 turbo EA82.. I just bought a rare 1985 RX engine... just turning 30 years. A lot of stuff moved on up to today. The sight of the chains swapped for belts for example..the two of them. Given the problems, I'd rather the old belts...and two valve heads for that matter, but have fun. :)

can you make an actual video in how to change the timing chain it would be helpful

Hi Brett - Another possibility is that If you dont tighten the tensioner enough you can cause the chain to slap for a little bit just after starting. This in turn might of caused the guide pin to drop, making the issue dramatically worse.

Have you come across Cam gear failure? P0018 code, runs and idles fine? 18 WRX fa20 39K miles, Thoughts? replacement for cam gear would require chain to be removed and the 3 bolts to pull the cam gear of cam shaft itself and put new one on correct?

Can you do a video on properly setting the timing?

  • @evilcowboy

To set the timing turn the keyway on crank to 6 o'clock position the drivers side arrows on the face of the intake cam at 8:00 and the exhaust cam to 1:00 now turn the crank to where the keyway lines up with the first dowel pin of the floating chain guide on the passenger side of engine (he was pointing to it in the video). Now put the locator link (yellow on the FB25) aligned with the oblong oval on the face of the crank sprocket. Then fish the 2 other links (orange on the FB25) and align the top one with a line on top of the intake sprocket you should now see and the exhaust needs to align with the dot on the face of the sprocket (the one on the bottom). Now install chain guides and tensioner and pull the pin for the tensioner, squeeze both guides together and you want to hear 1 more click from the tensioner and it should be done. Now rotate the crank counter clockwise to the 6:00 position now point the intake arrow to the 6:00 position and the exhaust to the 12:00 position. Now align the first locator link to the cranks oblong oval on the sprocket and the intake to the line on top and the exhaust to the dot on the face of it. Do exactly like the other one and install guides and tensioner. If you turn it over a couple times and you feel any resistance do not force just start over. this is a 2 stage process and make sure the single color locator link is not over the keyway on the crank it has to be over the oblong oval on the sprocket.

Kenyatta Antoine yes you do. Without it the coolant circulates too fast, the water pump cavities, and you get hot spots in the engine.

Hi, I keep getting a p0016 engine code and I want to pull off the cam cover. Can I pull it off and work on the engine without pulling the engine out of the car? I have broken the problem down to the bank1 (possible chip tooth), or a ghost code on the ECU /PCI. thx Dave
