What would be the ideal oil temp for these FA20 engines ? Some people say 85c others say 85c is a little too cold for these engines and that 90c is ideal. What's your take on it ?

I am wanting to boost my Gt86 but i am seeing so many videos of people blowing their cars up as shortly after boost. It is not making me super keen on boosting it. So i understand this is an old video, however: From what i gather to make the fa20 na boosted reliable you need the follow bits: Oil cooler Pistons with lower compression, and rods Better cooling upgrades Valves and retainers Ive read things about the coil packs being bad on these cars too? Is that something you guys have discovered ?

You could still run the stock comp if you convert to e85. Or, and this is why I really hope subaru has the foresight to keep port injection possible on the head, you can run isoproptyl or deionized water through the port injection system and ramp up the pressure for the DI. 11-12:1 plus boost shouldn't be a pipe dream. You really shouldn't have to give up revs for boost, especially if, like you said, the motor is going to have a complex twin charging system. It's, IMO, giving away a lot to gain a little. You can run a snail with a efficiency curve way up in the rev range and torque-fill the low-end with your super, all you gotta do is rethink your fuelcharge.

It just sticks in my craw to see people chase power out of a DOHC system and run OHV rev-ranges. Less so in a flat4 or flat 6, but especially so in turbo v6s, especially 60 or 90 degree vee's. It's like, just adopt an inline 6 platform or a OHV v8 platform. You'll sound better and go farther. Looking at you Nissan and big german saloons.

Is it really critical to use oil 0w20? My subaru is 2.5XS with the engine fb25b. Manual specifically says the 0w20 should be used on this engine. But some subaru technician say that instead of 0w20 can be used 5w30 even recommend (where I live weather is much colder than in Australia. During winter Temperature can drop below 25C). At the the moment my car runs on 5w30 and I replace the oil every 7k km. I'd like to hear you opinion on this moment.

Did you mean 25F? 25 Celsius is quite warm. Japanese FA20 recommendation is 0w20, the lower the number before the W (winter rating) the easier it is to startup in freezing weather and circulate. Full synthetic is best. Number after the W is the viscosity at high temperatures. If you drive with heavy load or on a track, a heavier oil is ok, but not too much especially is colder weather, because VVT depends on the oil. 5w-30 is ok to use as well.

@@ken6440 That is a good kit but I am after driveability, not just straight up power, the turbo has its place when it comes to outright racing but the superchargers handle a better curve range and they have linear acceleration.

1: did the new valve springs help? 2" why didn't you take the plastic cover off the FA20? 3: how and where can I get the supercharge (initial spin)/turbo (final infinite gearing) kit for my 2014 XV? I'm already pushing 293 normally "aspirated' (GDI) on my homemade intake. What the heck y'all think it might do with your kits?

One of the biggest if not the biggest limit to your RPM is valve springs because they are responsible for getting the valves shut after being opened. If your spring cannot push the valve shut quickly enough, you get valve float where the piston head impacts the valves. So better springs will close them quickly, allowing your car to safely rev higher.
