FA20DIT Piston & Rod - OEM vs. Aftermarket & Comparison to EJ

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

This FA20DIT (MY15+ WRX) engine build we're currently working on for a customer presented an excellent opportunity to show you the difference between not only a Factory and aftermarket Piston and Rod assembly for the newer series Subaru FA20DIT engine, but also the opportunity to compare to the older EJ design.
What are some of the strengths and weaknesses? Check out this video to find out!

I plan on running my stock FA block into the ground (or at least until some serious issues occur) before purchasing the aftermarket block & setup and pushing it past 400hp, so this was a nice informative video that sort of makes me feel like I’m making the right decision in waiting to up the power that much on stock parts lol

I'm more curious about information for the car (2015+ wrx's) that had the problems. How much boost was he running and what would you consider to be safe on the stock internals? Also what realistically do you think is safe horsepower numbers for this car on stock internals?

My question to you is who's replacing or rebuilding it if the more than likely inevitable catastrophic engine failure occurs? Probably be best just ripping the stock motor apart and build from the inside out, might as well if your going to destroy it anyway.

Could you or some one let me know the boost limit for a Stock FA 20 engine on a Scion FRS with out bending or breaking internals. I have a Jackson Racing 9Psi Supercharger with intercooler and High Performance Radiator with oil cooler. I never track the car only street driven in Florida. Don't want to blow my engine. Thanks

I've been researching this as well for my FRS and decided on having it built now that I have all of my other mods on it before boost. Basically anywhere from 8-10psi can do it apparently. But the forums have shown it can happen with less.

Going to go out on a limb and say that the boost levels required to bend a FA20DIT stock con-rod is something more that what is somewhat more than the max boost available to the stock build. Right or wrong?

I think it depends how long you want your car to last, you can run 14psi... it'll be fast as fuck. But probably blow up down the street, for fa20 its about ~10psi. Also, depends on what you call safe, you got 200k miles stock or 100-150k miles modded depending on how much boost you run. Also remember when you slap on a turbo, you got a lot of heat management things to worry about, especially when its not designed for it. Switch out the piston and con rods when you can.

Depends on power goals. If you plan to not exceed 400whp-400wtq then rods alone should be fine. If you plan to exceeed 400whp/wtq then I’d upgrade block/internals/turbo and transmission.

My Stock ‘15 religiously maintained at dealers only just detonated a rod at 82k mi. Those rods are about as durable as a styrofoam cup. I mean, in what Universe does an offset rod that is skinny AF make sense in a Turbo performance car??? 👎🏼👎🏼
