Sub-£5k EVs Are Real, And They're Awesome - Geely Panda Mini
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
The Geely Panda Mini may look cute and harmless but don't be fooled by those adorable looks, this little bear is out for blood - Wuling Hongguang MINI blood. After two years on the throne as King of China's Micro EV scene, the all-conquering Wuling might be forgiven for getting complacent but it'll need to up its game now that serious competition has entered the ring.
Geely have gone straight for the heart with an adorable face and rounded boxy design, but there's plenty of substance under that cheerful metal body, as well as a surprising amount of space and 22kW DC fast charging capability (on higher models). The Panda Mini is a basic but incredibly charming car, but will that be enough to win over customers of China's favourite toy car?

Now if only car makers over in the UK would listen. There is a big market for something like this. Instead we get ever more expensive alternatives on our roads. I would buy this at this price as it would be incredibly rare that I might need something else. Please someone make this possible in the UK.

I have not been on the EV bandwagon for a multitude of reasons and most of them having to do with the fact that all the car and truck manufacturers are just making the same mistakes by building EVs that are just too damn big and are just EV versions of the ICE vehicles they have been pushing on people for years now. That said I love seeing these little mini EV cars and think that this is where they should have all started to begin with. They make more sense right now rather than trying to shift everyone into a big EV car or truck which require too big a battery and leave many people with that range anxiety worry. But these will never make it to the US because of the ridiculous rules and safety bs that keeps even the Japanese kei cars from being sold here. And that is the real shame of it all. I would buy one of these in a second if we could get them here.

I guess they won’t allow this brilliant car in Britain either. Main reason being the government will make almost ZERO taxes out of it, despite all the BS about emissions and pollution from I.C.E. vehicles. This would be perfect for commuting within London. Perfect if you have a small drive you can’t fit a Tesla on - but this would fit perfectly. Charge it overnight at home only (helps if there’s charging at work too) and that’s it. The perfect commuter vehicle. I find it cynical and ironic that those dangerous stand up e-Scooters with the impossibly tiny wheels are readily available for rent in London, but the UK authorities will wheel out two billion reasons why this vehicle MUST NOT be sold in the UK….(unless some Quango can import them and rent them to commuters for truly exorbitant fees for an hour). These should be sold here, even if they’re classed as quadricycles - though clearly, this vehicle is more than that. Tricking the general public into believing that the only EVs available cost upwards of £30k - while turning a blind eye to people dangerously perching on illegal e-Scooters - in the hope that, that’s all the lower classes will aspire to, (while insidiously banning the sales of EV’s like this Panda Mini EV) is a particularly cruel crime perpetuated by those running the UK. Over here, they’re still dreaming of seeing / forcing the lower classes on bicycles regardless of the weather (or Cattle Class Public Transport - which cannot cope and is often highly inconvenient due to a lack of proper investment). I’d buy one of these in a heartbeat. Very handy for commuting and shopping. I don’t go far, have a free bus pass for Central London anyway as I wouldn’t even drive there now anyway, but appreciate the idea of relying on electric power to get around instead of being taxed to the hilt on petrol and also subjected to whimsical ULEZ taxes when next they decide to move the goal posts and force every petrol car to pay ULEZ charges in London and other cities just because - it’s all about the Money (money, money…!) for them….!!! Thanks for the video review.

They're great for getting around and are really popular in the smaller cities. Even the tiniest ones that are called LSEVs are still on sale in smaller cities and rural areas, simply as a way to get around and stay dry when needed. Now imagine this with a solar panel instead of panoramic roof! It could give you exactly enough boost to use it as whole city aglomerate length if driving with that extra 10-16 km of sun charge! Here, in Israel, where we hardly have more than 80 km between major cities, it would cut our traffic jams in half at the very least! Especially when you think about almost half of the cars on daily road being used for some duet of workers with some tools and stuff using FIAT Doblos at the very least and the other half almost entirely consists of loner-drivers on SUVs they got from work😢
Putting a panoramic sunroof on a tiny car is genius. I can't imagine feeling claustrophobic in a car with this many windows.

Wheel and tire is a strange thing. Width is metric, height is neutral ground in percentage and wheel is in inches. Perhaps it's because tires are bought using sidewall numbers as reference. No need to do any actual measuring. Sunroof, I think they're trying to compare it to screen sizes. Which doesn't require measuring. 64 freedom units, everyone knows how big a 32" TV is. Or 55" 65" 70", whatever you have at home. Rather than metric mm², 1626 mm². 🤔

For the EU however, they were planning to expand into the market through their various subsidiaries & JVs, Polestar, Lotus (High-end) & London Black cabs, & Lynk & Co./Zeekr etc., not directly at least not now. Let's be honest, 600hp isn't much use in a city unless the streets are closed and it's Monaco.
It looks like the designer based the body shape on a car that their 3 year old child drew. I could well see a localised version of this doing well in the UK as there doesn't seem to be much competition where it comes to EV's in the budget arena. Even if it clocked in at the £10,000 price point there is a total lack of competition on the new market (and relatively little on the second hand one).

We really need affordable cars like this. I would definitely go back to driving if it was available here in the UK. Can we not have factories over here making these? Would mean UK work force will have a job making cute cars 😅
