None of these would ever be as safe as a full size car. Multi lane highways like the interstates in the US or the Autobahn in Germany are not the places to be driving these cars. They are nice for city commutes in something like London..... but LA, Boston, Chicago, Houston.....would be too much of a risk with loops around the cities of 8 or more lanes of traffic moving at high speeds. That is why the US doesn't bother even trying to market these types of EVs.

I have had a Prius for 10 years. I wouldn't trade it for an EV. My Prius has an 8.5 gallon gas tank and I can go 400 miles on a tank. I spend 5 minutes filling up and I can go another 400 miles. No waiting hours to recharge. No looking for a charging station. I can use the heater and A/C all the time, without reducing my distance per tank. I average 50 mpg all the time. The Prius also costs less than the average E/V. In the future E/V's may have their place, but right now Hybrids are the way to go!

Big questions for the American buyer... 1 do you need a license to drive it? 2 is it street legal since these cars can't keep up with reg speeds of traffic? 3 are they insurable? 4 are they safe if you are involved in an accident with more typical vehicles? 5 would law enforcement mess with you all the time? 6 how hard is it to get hands on parts or have it worked on? and related 7 what does the routine maintenance look like? Really the videos I'm seeing they look like ramped up barbie cars that toddlers get for Christmas. And honestly I do wonder if we should focus instead on more infrastructure for these and also golf carts etc.

With the sun and the wind I will travel forever. . . since I consume electricity to travel, why not recover some of it using a mini or micro wind generator, with vertical axis, placed externally somewhere in the car and a system of solar panels? These systems will deliver energy. . forever. (I mean: a moving object, like a car, will create a vortex in the air, the wind. When it hits the wind turbine, it will generate electricity that will recharge the batteries).

@@gustaveliasson5395 well I'm a Brit who lives in a flat in France. In a town with barely enough charging points for 20000 people. So I mean chargers. The type that cars plug into in order to replenish the battery. What else could I mean?

@@aacmove That's cool; my dad used to live in a flat on a disused military base (armour regiment, I think), but there were dedicated parking spaces with electrical outlets for running car heaters in the frigid winter mornings. My mom's flat also came with dedicated parking... and her mother lives in a flat with an underground garage. Well I'll be damned, it seems the possibility of a flat *without* a dedicated parking space and outdoor electrical outlets was completely overlooked. Privilege checked, I suppose. E-bikes, then? An electrified velomobile so as to not be completely exposed to the elements? Something with a detachable battery, at any rate.

I think these cars suffer badly from Unobtainium.. The Smart EQ is way over-priced and just not that good. The Twizy also but is more appealing. Despite seeing them on the streets for years in Europe, Renault have now quit making them. They created a well received classic and then dropped it - cheers Renault!! The Citroen Ami I don't think will be available in RHD anytime soon. The Unity, which is the best of all worlds - well we have not heard from it for years. Eventually, we might be spoilt for choice for small EVs but probably not this decade.

There’s no such thing as “cheap EVs” . In comparison with each other that’s about it, against combustion engine vehicles, they are 4-5 times the price of and nothing but an inconvenience to find chargers. Not to mention varying prices make them a pain to own as you still need to babysit them like phones. For eg i didn’t use my EV for a couple of weeks and come out to find the battery has discharged enough that if it was petrol, it would be classified as a *leak!* I can leave my petrol car for 6 months, disconnect the battery and connect it back up and it will start and still have a FULL fuel tank… Not to mention once the battery has dropped its performance on an EV the car is scrap, since it’s 2/3s the overall price of the car
